Sander Berge for 12m

Post by Newcastleclaret93 » Tue May 11, 2021 3:28 pm

It’s being reported that Berge has a release clause of 12m after being relegated.

Got to think we would be at least enquiring about him. Could finally be a new Defour.

Is he anything like as good as Defour?

I’ve only seen bits and he doesn’t look a bad player but he’s a long way to go to even lace Defour’s boots from what I’ve seen.

Blades fans think he was a very good but they changed the way they played to accommodate him and it didn't work out very well.

That was before xmas though.

I would say there’s definitely potential for him to become a Defour replacement. Would add some much needed technical ability in the middle of the park.

Not sure there is better for that type of fee.

I don't exactly know what it is but he looks a player to me. Under our management he could flourish. It will be the same thing no doubt all summer once we show an interest in a player, other clubs come on board and it usually means we're done.

…but he would be a squad player at those teams where with us I would suspect he would be a 1st 11 player. £12M and 40-50K a week is doable and he would defo be an upgrade on our midfield

I would suggest he would start for Arsenal, Everton and the two Italian clubs

They paid over £20m for him start of last season

Would find it very hard to believe they then agreed to a release clause at £12m

Squad player with the belief he could become a starter and a lot of those teams are going to be rebuilding and/or shipping out dross this summer.

His release clause is also reported as being 35 million, which seems a hell of a lot more likely than one that is less than his most recent transfer value.

There's an article posted on twitter from The Athletic about the big clubs not being able to get rid of their dross.
Likes of Drinkwater and Ozil just taking big wages. They point out it will be harder than ever to get shut even on freebies.

Just going of what sky sports have said.

They said his release clause was 35m if they stayed in the league. 12m if relegated.

Hmmm should I join Man City as a squad player, probably win the title and get paid £150k a week, or play first team football at Burnley for threpence ha’penny a week

Useful box to box midfielder with extra potential in the coming years.

Not a Defour type player though, but he would be very handy (IF we can get him, which I suggested last season by the way...).
