Benteke again, he's having a bit of a purple patch this season, that's 8 so far I think.

Re: Saints v Palace
Benteke again he's suddenly discovered his scoring boots, not really sure what result is best for us here, I guess anything apart from a Saints victory will suit us just fine, therefore that start will be perfectly acceptable to me.

Re: Saints v Palace
He's enjoying a decent campaign by his recent standards, however it's worth noting he cost more than double what Chris Wood did, and I know which of them I'd rather have in our squad. Hint it ain't Benteke.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Tue May 11, 2021 8:21 pmBenteke again, he's having a bit of a purple patch this season, that's 8 so far I think.

Can’t make my mind up on this one. I’d like to finish above them both, we need the £2m, but if CP win that could be difficult.

You do wonder where the Saints would be without Ings.
Apparently that's his 100th senior goal, and he'd have had many more if he hadn't been blighted by all those injuries.

Re: Saints v Palace
Yep it's definitely a worry for them given his injury history, a breakdown of those 100 goals courtesy of the BBC.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue May 11, 2021 8:47 pmI think we’ve seen the answer to that this season with their results without Ings
Danny Ings' goal was his 100th in his professional club career. 45 of these have been for Southampton - the others came for Burnley (43) Bournemouth (8) Liverpool (4).
So he's now scored more for Southampton than he did for us, I wasn't aware of this fact.

Terrific player. I'd love it if he made the England squad.

I'll be surprised if he's still at Saints next season, you would think teams like Everton, Villa and possibly Spurs would be interested in himboatshed bill wrote: ↑Tue May 11, 2021 9:49 pmTerrific player. I'd love it if he made the England squad.

I'd take him ahead of G. Jesus, and he'd thrive on all those precision through balls.

Spurs will certainly be in the market for a striker or two this summer assuming of course that Harry Kane does leave for the Etihad as is heavily rumoured.
Penalty miss and then Che Adams goal early in the 2nd half were the game changing incidents.
Saints jump 3 places with that win that just illustrates how tight it is between those 5 teams, win a match and you rapidly ascend the table, lose a match and you can quickly find yourselves back in 17th again.

He's holding off on signing a new contract at Saints until this summer.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Tue May 11, 2021 9:55 pmI'll be surprised if he's still at Saints next season, you would think teams like Everton, Villa and possibly Spurs would be interested in him
He'd be happy staying, BUT he also still harbouring ambitions of playing and staying fit, for a top team.
I think Saints wanted a largish buyout clause.
If no one comes for him, I expect he will sign a new deal at Saints.

Armstrong was very good tonight on the quiet, he’s a tidy player capable of playing multiple positions. Great find for them

I wish I could be arsed digging out the thread that was littered with posters saying that they wouldn’t want Ings back when we were tentatively linked with him when he moved to Southampton. We really do have some posters on here who know nothing about football

Re: Saints v Palace
He'd spent a long time out injured, the risk was very very big for any club to sign him.
No one questioned his ability, it was always his fitness.
If we'd signed him and he then spent 2 years struggling with injuries, form and fitness would you be happy with that?
Same with Brady, we know he's got the ability, but he simply can't seem to rediscover his pre-injury form.

I’d have all our current 4 strikers before Ings no matter how good he is when he’s fit. Nothing to do with his injury record .
Sorry for that opinion when you know so much about football MRG

Re: Saints v Palace
You asked me the question telling me he’s better than any striker we’ve got.
Now how much leg room have you given me when you are so convinced. It’s not like any reasons I give are going to make you change your mind is it?
What I will tell you is that the importance to a team does not always depend on how good a player is.
There are other more important aspects a manager has to consider , and certainly our manager has said this so many times . Some examples are , how would they fit in with the other players , can they be relied on to put the team before themselves and their agents. Our strikers give 100% to the cause and would kill for each other

Ings left under a cloud. He fell out with the manager and the community had got sick of his womanising ways.
Does anyone remember the Twitter spat, when a young lady had a go at Ings for his treatment of her? Then another 20 or so different young ladies all piled in on him.
He soon deleted his account.

Shock horror! Soton match thread turns into a thread about the moral character of Danny Ings...
Re: Saints v Palace
Iam unaware of his off field activities, but would question the attitude of someone who 'bottles' a big penalty, has to be removed from a game because the manager thinks his head is not in the right place, because of transfer rumours and is showing a pattern of running contracts down for financial benefits, not a player I would welcome backevensteadiereddie wrote: ↑Wed May 12, 2021 9:21 amWealthy young footballer in "Bonking Anything That Moves" shock !

Re: Saints v Palace
The point I was trying to make is it would be realistically improbable that we would feel the need to want to play all our strikers every game for the full 90 anyhow, maybe if we was chasing a game & adjusting tactics offensively then maybe but all 4 still wouldn’t play the full 90! The argument that we couldn’t afford to carry a injury prone striker like DI is nonsense really, I wouldn’t really describe the 4 we’ve currently got as injury free 100% of the time & strikers apart we’ve done a pretty good job of carrying RB & JBG for god knows how many years.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Wed May 12, 2021 8:47 amNow there's a question, have we ever had 4 strikers on the pitch at the same time?
