George Boyd

Post by warksclaret » Wed May 19, 2021 12:54 pm

Having learned he has just left Salford I looked up his stats-he has played just under 700 games for all the clubs he represented. Will always remember his sweet half volley when we for once beat Man City 1-0. The other features about him was his non stop running, and his shooting ability with either foot

I didn't think he was slowing down towards the end of his time here, his career has nosedived he's likely to be playing non league football next. These footballers are always so certain the grass is greener elsewhere, barely anybody leaves us and goes onto success. Heaton, Shackell, Jones, Boyd, Vokes to name a recent few

The City goal has to be his top Claret moment but winning the penalty that beat our NEIGHbours is a close second for me.

I would assume (Shackell aside) that all of the players listed thought staying with Burnley was where the grass was greener. All the departures were based on them not being guranteed the game time they once were.

What a bizarre post . All mentioned players were more or less past their best when they left , with the exception of Heaton who but for injury would have been no 1 at villa .The few quality players we’ve had like Trippier , Keane , Ings, Jayrod went onto the successful careeers

Spot on. Apart from Tom, who wanted first team football, we got the best out of the others and they were coming down from their peak. You could add Scott Arfield to your list. Congrats to him on his title win but that is his level now.

Nonsense,

Shackell had the best spell of his career with us and then thought the grass was greener and left.

Heatons Villa career was done once they brought in Martinez, now he's number 2.

Vokes left for more game time, to find himself with less gametime in the league below.

Boyd wasn't past his best towards the end of his time here, his level didn't ever drop or raise, a solid 6/10 weekly.

I'll give you Jones, but I swear he had a contract offer with us and opted to leave.

All of which leaves ALC’s assertion that leaving Turf Moor is not always a downhill path correct. He/she/they cite several examples of situational improvement

but nobody said it was always a downhill path, Ings, Keane, Trippier are certainly in the minority. I remember Akinbiyi, Blake, Chaplow, Andy Gray, Lafferty. Since I started watching Burnley in 2000, very rarely do players leave for better things (money aside).

Doing well to make an argument out of this. Our best players leave and do well. Those towards the end of their careers slowly decline whether they stay or leave. There's absolutely nothing unique to Burnley there.

Boyd was alright, a grafter and a great goal v City. Lovely hair too.

Exactly this, it's almost like life isn't entirely black and white, unlike the UTC football forum.

I suppose Joe Hart’s situation improved - sitting on the bench for Spurs, on more money than sitting on the bench for Burnley.

I’d suggest his career was and has been on a downward trajectory for a while, but perhaps that’s the exception that proves the rule. ;)

George Boys did us proud.

Suffered an injury at Peterborough. Downhill thereafter.

Hope he picks up a club which looks after him.

Literally exactly what I thought but I’ve had a bit of a vendetta against KRBFC recently, not purposely though

Didn't he score the winner in the 1914 fa Cup final?

Andre Gray too. Can't even get a game in the league where, last time he was in it, he top scored and won player of the season.

George Boyd did great for us at the time, and he'll always be remembered for that stunning winner against City, but he also played a huge part in our Championship winning campaign.

However we were probably right to let him go when we did, and he's hardly set the world on fire since he left Burnley.

All the best George hope you find another club, or even a role in coaching maybe.

He could still get a game in goal, for us, if Pope is injured.

No, Espia, George is too young for that to have been possible. It was his late father, Tommy.

Austin was promoted in his first season with QPR, then stayed in the Premier League for a few years. Wasn't he called up for England at one point too? If not, he was close.
