Odd game. We played OK but a few let the side down at moments and we were punished for that against a good (not outstanding) team. I think of be more worried I was a Liverpool fan

Norris 5 (-1 First goal definitely/Third goal maybe?)
Lowton 8
Tarks 8
Mee 8 (Thought he was excellent and I'd like to give him 9, but we conceded 3!)
Taylor 8 (Excellent defending and getting forward and if he could put in a decent cross he'd get 11!!!)
Westwood 8
Cork 7 (-1 poor on first goal)
McNeil 7
JBG 7
Brownhill 9 (MOM)
Wood 7 (-1 for missing the target when clean through!!!)
Vydra 5 (No impact)
Yes, beaten by the better side, but a really, really good showing imo and we really could and should have scored ourselves to make it tighter. Liverpool never looked comfortable until the third and knew they were in a game. Our crossing unfortunately, especially Taylor's, is woeful from some great positions and it's a real shame (and bloody frustrating) because we work so hard to actually get into those positions. I just wish we'd played like that more often against the lesser teams this season and we'd be comfortably mid table like other years.

Not a criticism of Norris but we now know how many points having the best keeper in the country is worth to us. Maybe Sean making a point again.

I agree. I thought he made a miles better job of it than when Hendrick did similar tbh, but I did see him seriously flagging after 60/65 minutes because he really was running absolutely all over the place!!

Re: Burnley v Liverpool - Player Ratings
Didn't matter that this was a flip flops game, it was great to be back in the ground. Both sides seemed off the pace and it was all pretty even bar the finishing and the goalkeeping.
Norris - 4 decent sweeper, not so decent keeper. A bit harsh as he never plays but he was poor for the first two.
Lowton - 7 did well against Mane and got himself forward
Tarkowski - 8 don't think this will be his last home game at the Turf but if it was he showed on a couple of occasions why he's so important to us
Mee - 8 far better than I think anyone expected him to be against Salah
Taylor - 6 mint touch past TAA, bobbins cross
Westwood - 6 drilled some lovely pingers
Cork - 7 pressed their middle 3 very well
Brownhill - 8 seems to really like being pushed further forward, full of energy and got in some good positions - he's just lacking that bit of guile to be really effective
Gudmundsson - 6 needs a right foot
McNeil - 7 kept getting into loads of space down the line and we kept deciding to not give him the ball
Wood - 7 battled away should have bagged in the first half
Really wasn't much in this game but they were bound to get a shot on target at some point and when they did, with our lack of goalkeeper, it was likely to be game over. TAA looked miles offside for their 2nd, not sure why the var lads didn't check it, but again the keeper should be saving the header.
Still, we're largely just fulfilling fixtures and both sides looked like they've had more than enough of this season. I think we all have tbh.
Let's hope we can get a bit more back to normal next season because no matter what the game was like today, watching football in the ground is still a million times better than it will ever be watching on telly.

As many times this season, a game of the finer details getting away from us.
I said to the wife before the game - the good news is we always beat the Champions in the Premier League. The bad news - we’ve beaten them already.
I thought Mee was immense but slightly at fault for goal 2. Wood was also superb, causing chaos up front and their CBs, while I agree with Sky Phillips was MoM, were hanging on by their fingertips.
That rare miss by Wood, and missing Pope on goal, really helped Liverpool. I sense they would have thrown the Champions League away (having got back in sight) if Pope were playing and Wood had taken that chance.
I can’t see Dyche being bothered where we finish (prize money he hasn’t had much of to spend for years). He obviously tried to win against his boyhood team, I agree with a an extra midfielder sitting on Thiago. The Norris one irks me though - poor old BPF has hardly had a chance, a bit like Vydra of old, gets a bit of a game against big teams then gets benched. First City, then United, now benched after little old Leeds. I feel for Norris too - rabbit in headlights, a huge game for Liverpool, apart from some useful kicking didn’t get much right. A head scratcher by Dyche, he has a habit in meaningless or cup games.

Re: Burnley v Liverpool - Player Ratings
Norris 4 - swept up relatively well and has a good left foot. Unfortunately some big questionnkarosnover his positioning for bothb2nd and 3rd goals. Also should hahe dealt with a cross easily in the first half but stayed on his line.
Lowton 7 - thought he played very well, always a tough game against Mane maybe could have done slightly better on their second. Some excellent probing distribution.
Tarkowski 7 - thought there were a few shaky moments in there especially first half but stuconitnout and gave a good performance.
Mee 8* - some fantastic blocks and solid throughout. Cant mark hik any higher given we conceded 3.
Taylor 6 - gave the ball awaybcheaplubfor the first and although he was an outlet there were numerous times his distribution let him down (poor crossing and should have sold the ball to McNeil on a number of occassions).
Gudmunson 6 - worked hard but other than one good cross in the second half his use of the ball in good positions was poor.
Westwood 7 - played well, some good 'doggies' in there and some nice distribution.
Cork 6 - looks like he needs the summer break to me.
Brownhill 7 - showed some really good pressing and generally supported Wood well, one excellent ball with his left foot second half also. Another who's quality in the final third just wasnt there though unfortunately. Should have done much, much better with his chance in the first half.
McNeil 6 - played a lot of football over the last couple of years and looks like he needs a rest to freshen up to me.
Wood 7 - held the ball well and a constant threat. Should have scored the chance in the first half though.
A decent performance and no doubt since the turn of the year we have been much better to watch but we have regularly found ourselves conceding a large number if goals and missing chances which isnt very burnley like.
A big summer for us in terms of player retention amd recruitment

Norris 5 - I cant give him any more as I thought he genuinely should have saved all 3, and a better keeper would have
Lowton 8 burnley cafu
Tarkowski 7
Mee 9 fantastic first 30 made several great tackles, really set the tone
Taylor 8 very good again
Brownhill 7 got in some great positions
Cork 6
Westwood 7
Gudmundsson 7
McNeil 7
Wood 7 unlucky not to have put us one up
On another day we go 1 up and it's a totally different game, we played very well In parts just errors at important times cost us.
1 thing for sure is we need a GK who makes the big saves ( or last night just a case of basic saves ) at the needed times to get us points.
We look an extreamely weak side when Pope isnt between the sticks.
However we played quite well really and on a different day we certainly dont lose 3 nil

Cork - 6
JBG - 6
McNeil - 6
Brownhill - 6
Wood - 6 so isolated all game
The one thing the game did highlight is that Vydra has to start with wood every game.
Our midfield just isn’t good enough even when we start with a midfield 3.
Lowton - 8 was awesome
Tarks - 7 some good blocks
Mee - 6
Taylor - 6 poor crossing

Norris 5 we saw how poor he his, we didn't get a chance to see if he's any good though due to excellent defending.
Lowton 9 mom
Mee 8 lost his man for a goal so lost a mark
Tarkowski 9 brilliant blocking.
Taylor 8

Brownhill 8
Cork 6 father time catching up, thatcsaid Liverpool are good in midfield
Westwood 7
McNeil 7 he can be sh1te,all right or very bright, tonight bordered on very bright.
Wood 8 led line very well isolated but should have hit target.

We did very well for the first 30 mins. Sadly the game lasts 90. Far too many games are predictable this season though in terms of outcome. You often know the game is over with half the game left and as for our ability to score goals ...... Next season can’t come soon enough.

Or ensuring that he doesn't pick up a career threatening/sale stopping injury in these end of season dead-rubber games?AlargeClaret wrote: ↑Wed May 19, 2021 11:17 pmOr maybe allowing Pope a proper treatment and recovery for his shoulder injury ?

A lot of high marks for Wood to say he missed two absolute sitters.
Vydra usually gets 5s or 6s when he plays well but misses chances.
The lads gave a lot of effort and were unlucky at times but there's mistakes in us when playing such fast paced games like against Leeds.

Re: Burnley v Liverpool - Player Ratings
I was lucky to get a ticket and I really enjoyed the night, despite the result, it was great to be back. I thought we played very well, but things are not going for us at the moment. It wasn’t a 0:3 performance. This season, we haven’t put in those performances against the teams around us or we would be comfortable mid-table. If we can keep most of our key players and add a couple, I think we will be ok next season. It will be very hard for teams coming up and I believe we will do better against the lesser teams next season.
Norris 6 – Wrong decision from SD to play him tonight. A very tough PL debut and what does it do for BPF’s confidence?
Lowton 8 – I think that Lowton’s defending has been weak this season and we need to be thinking about a replacement. Having said that, I thought he did really well last night and he offers plenty going forward.
Tarkowski 8 – A good performance against quality opposition. He’s going to be a really big player to replace, if he leaves.
Mee 8 – Another really good 100% effort from Ben. We’re lucky to have him.
Taylor 7 – Still finding his way back after injury. Defended better tonight. Crossing woeful. He will be back next season.
Brownhill 8 – Did pretty well in a more forward role. I’d like to see him carry the ball forward and shoot more – rather than look to pop off passes.
Cork 7 – Good first half, faded a bit in the second. He will benefit from a rest.
Westwood 7 – Lots of effort and good break up play. Drops too deep at times to allow him to open play up.
Gudmundsson 7 – Worked well with Lowton down the right in the second half – decent effort overall
McNeil 7 – Got more involved than the Leeds game. Didn’t make best use of the space he had at times.
Wood 8 – Worked very hard, won a great deal of headers and held the ball up well. Should have scored in the first half and a couple of poor touches let him down when breaking through in the second half.

Apart from me giving him a 4 for those reasons, O agree.
Pope would have had all 3. The disappointment of the defenders when that first one went past him, was visible.

Despite some decent football played by us at times the scoreline, just like the one last Saturday, doesn't make good reading. Our results, since the last break, have, on the whole been very poor. Fortunately those of the three sides below us have, too and we've 'limped over the line'. As for next season, Nick Pope must remain with us.

Norris 4 - Great left foot….and that’s it unfortunately
Lowton 8 - One of his best games this season
Mee 9 - Won every challenge in the air and on the floor
Tarky 8 - Great performance. Hopefully not a farewell one
Taylor 7 - Defended well but his distribution and crossing is suspect
JBG 7 - Another who played well and linked with Lowton really well
Cork 5 - Laboured but possibly injured they way he walked round the pitch boot and sockless after the game
Westy 7 - Improvement on his recent performances
McNeil 6 - Didn’t really get at TAA
Brownhill 7 - Again another who played well and pressed well
Wood 7 - Should have bagged 1st half but gave the LFC defenders trouble
Vydra 5 - Not really involved when he got on
