Tarky to stay.
It's seems like SD has made the decision that he would rather keep tarky for another year than sell him cheaply this summer.

he's not had the best season, some brilliant games but some truly awful ones. I'm genuinely not sure which "big" club will want to spend 20-30 million on him

He's been one of our best players this season. Will be interesting to see the average player ratings over the season to see if they support that view.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Sat May 22, 2021 7:03 amhe's not had the best season, some brilliant games but some truly awful ones. Don't think we can read too much in to that. Another season in the prem means another £120 million so it's worth keeping him

I'd agree with you. It is not what he's in the team for but he has missed some absolute sitters for us though! Bet his ratings would be even higher if he'd have put a few of those away. Hope he practices his finishing over the summer
Re: Tarky to stay.
Yes he has missed a few from close range especially with his feet. He's had a very good season though.JohnDearyMe wrote: ↑Sat May 22, 2021 7:57 amI'd agree with you. Re: Tarky to stay.
We could likely get 20m this summer but we wouldn’t be able to sign a centre half anywhere near his quality with the money and I believe he’s one of the most important players at the club, without him we will likely be relegated, he’s that good.

He’s looked slow at times this season
Re: Tarky to stay.
Clearly things weren’t right at the beginning of the season with the alleged toe injury and I don’t think he did himself any favours revealing that he wanted to leave. Having said that I don’t think his commitment can be questioned and we are definitely stronger when he plays. I think his ambition is to see how good he really is or could be but it might be that our framework suits him better and gives him a chance to shine. Clearly his international ambitions are not going to come to fruition as Sarfgate obviously doesn’t rate him. Hope he stays personally as I think we would struggle to replace him.
Re: Tarky to stay.
Dont worry Tarky will be looking for a contract somewhere next season
So his performances will improve.

Re: Tarky to stay.
Good morning. For a start I don’t think he is indispensable. Second, Tarkowski staying doesn’t mean we don’t get relegated. Anyway who knows what’s going to happen, he might get injured and not play the whole of next season. His replacement could kick the ball off the line in our last game, thus keeping us up.
Then again you could be right, but I don’t think it’s a simple equation. Plus, if he really wants to leave now it’s probably best for all parties if he goes. A disgruntled centre back is not going to perform at 100% even if he thinks he is.

Personally I think he's been immense again this season overall and I dread losing him. Watched him walk off the pitch on Wednesday night and was thinking "I hope that's not the last time I see him wearing our shirt here". If we keep him another season and sign a decent successor then it will give the new boy time to learn what's needed in our system.

To be fair, his international ambitions are not going to come to fruition because he’s clearly not international standard.HB Claret wrote: ↑Sat May 22, 2021 8:21 amClearly things weren’t right at the beginning of the season with the alleged toe injury and I don’t think he did himself any favours revealing that he wanted to leave. Re: Tarky to stay.
When he’s on form he’s a rock solid PL defender and could play to a high standard in most sides.
But whilst he’s had some fantastic games this season, he’s also had some real casual moments in defence which isn’t like him. He’s also pretty average to poor with the ball at his feet which might well deter a bigger team from paying a lot of money for him.
I personally couldn’t see him leaving this summer, despite the fact he’s obviously desperate to, and I do think he’ll see out his contract and go for nothing.

Re: Tarky to stay.
We should let him run his contract down. All is not lost with Tarkowski. If the new owners show ambition in the transfer market and we finish top half next season, there could be every chance in him signing a new contract.
He has had another good season but far from excellent, he lacks pace and is slow to close down, and like others have said he doesn't weigh in with enough goals
He certainly isn't international class and not good enough to be a regular in a top six side

Would love Tarks to stay but at the same time he has had a poor second half to the season.

Re: Tarky to stay.
As noted by others over the course of this season JT has not appeared to perform quite as well as he did last season, but has still been very important/key to us. As a result of this downturn in performance coupled with entering the final year of his existing contract and not forgetting that 25%+ of anything over his purchase price goes back to Brentford anyway, then having him in a Burnley shirt for one more year's is surely worth more than what we'd receive for selling him? I appreciate that there's a risk of JT spitting the dummy and not being prepared to perform, but conversely, if he want's to attract the best clubs/highest salary when he becomes a free agent in another twelve months time, then the onus is on him to perform at his very best over the 2021/22 season.

Re: Tarky to stay.
Tarky is a bit of an enigma. He downed tools at Brentford in an effort to join us in the first place, but has recently said that he wouldn't do that at Burnley. So anything could happen if he's made to stay against his will.
Is he a top CH? Well he certainly is by Burnley standards, but as has been said earlier, he is prone to too many errors and his goal chance conversion is very poor. As he's been this last season, he has no chance of further international caps, so in my humble opinion, he might as well sign a new contract at Burnley. At least here, he's a regular starter.
C'mon Tarky, you know it makes sense.

If we keep Tarky, Pope, McNeil and Wood then we’ll likely be safe again next season, because I’d imagine the rest of the squad would be more than happy to stay put anyway.

Re: Tarky to stay.
He has been imperious in some games this year. If he has lacked the consistency of some other seasons its because some teams have run through our midfield at will this season. Both him and Ben (as per most defenders) find it difficult when top premier players are allowed to run through unchallenged, and there have also been many times when Lowton has been out of position, pulling Tarks wide. Now that he is staying we need to spend the money being saved on a combative holding midfield player who can protect the back four. Look how well we played in the team when Joey Barton was here, or Marney, or even Kevin Ball. For me get this sorted and we become a formidable side to play against.A right winger and a new striker to challenge Wood and Vydra and a decent back up keeper and we become a different team

He's been immense and I'd love him to stay long term. But it seems to go against the business plan of the new regime to break the bank with a new contract, or let him leave for free next year.
I don't think anyone benefits by keeping him here for one final season. What we can't do is faff around and then sell him on transfer deadline day. His replacement must have a full preseason with us.

If we got an offer of £25m for Tarks and turned it down we would be effectively paying £500k per week for him to play out his contract.
Great player as he is if anyone thinks Tarks is worth £500k per week they must be mental

Far too much pressure put on those two because of a lack of pace and strength in CM
Based on last summer, would expect WHU and Leicester to show interest again if they get into Europe
Hope Leicester qualify for Champions league and then his value remains high

He’s clearly a very important player for us. Arguably the most important along with Pope and Mee.

Re: Tarky to stay.
Well either way we need this resolved ASAP, if he's staying for at least 1 more year than fantastic and we can bolster other areas of the squad, but if he wants out and we get a decent offer we'd have to give it consideration at least, but as has already been pointed out further upthread any incoming fee will see 15% go to Brentford, so we might not actually have that much to play with in the market to get Tarky's replacement should he go, and that said player would then have to build up an understanding with Ben Mee, so on balance I'd probably fall on the side of keeping hold of JT for another year, but ultimately if he wants to go he holds all the cards especially entering the final year of his contract.
I'd say we've got 4 players who will be hard to replace, McNeil, Mee, Pope & Tarks, the first 3 are all nailed down to long term deals, so if the board feel we need to sell before we but that only leaves Tarkowski as a viable option to bring a decent wedge in, however either way we need to get his successor in during this window, as we did with Tarks himself before allowing Michael Keane to move on the following season.
The ideal scenario for Burnley is Tarks signs a new contract, but how realistic that prospect is I don't know.

Of course how could I omit Woody. He's been invaluable particularly this season and without his goals it could have been a vastly different end to our season.matttheclaret wrote: ↑Sat May 22, 2021 12:38 pmI'd add Chris Wood to that list. Goalscorers are hard to find and someone who has got double figures every season he's been here would be very hard to replace on our budget.

tbh, that's not saying much this season. We've had some brilliant performances and some terrible ones. I'm not sure Brendan Rogers will spend 20-30 million because he's outscored Matthew Lowton on our player ratings

Whilst Tarks isn't in the very top tier of Central Defenders, his partnership with Ben Mee, together as a unit with an improved Matt Lowton and emerging Charlie Taylor is extremely effective for us ...

Standard PL, you could be right, but he's definitely at the top end of the quality scale in our squad.
However if he wants to go, and assuming we get a reasonable fee, we shouldn't stand in his way.
