He’s nowhere near the standard required to play in midfield. Midfield in League One maybe but not either of the top two divisions, he’d be way, way out of his depth.

Yes, but if we get let's say 15m plus Choudary and we valued Choudary at 3m, then the total transaction would be 18m the total fee.

We could get only 5m in cash, and 2 players in, and we might only value those players at 5m each, especially in these uncertain times, meaning we would only need to give Brentford 30% of any profit on the 4m we reportedly paid them so that would be 30% of 11m using the figures above...

There's a way round it, and a few teams including ourselves have used that trick before
Several different things at play here

Reputational value
for ourselves given what we have previously valued Tarkowski at (including potential other interested parties this summer). It will also be an issue in terms of future dealings with clubs when it comes to transfer fee versus sell on fee. It may be seen that we cannot be trusted on the sell on fee side of things so the initial fee is hiked as a consequence. Up to now Brentford/Man Utd have down well out of their agreements with us, with both sell on and conditional payments, Derby/Man City/Middlesbrough less so, Leeds in the middle with Bristol City, Swansea, Aston Villa and West Brom
For Leicester on the value on the out going player, partiularly having the reputation they have as a result of Drinkwater, Kante, Mahrez, Maguirre and Chilwell sales

Book value
for ourselves on Tarky it is fine as he has a value below £1m as a result of amortisation
For Leicester Choudary is home produced but will have an asset value in the accounts, it becomes more complex

He either wants to boot it 100 yards but Dyche is more cultured 😁or might actually like to pass to midfielders who can drop for the ball and are comfortable in.possesion, TBH most of our games it is relentless on our centre halves.

If Tarky does go to the Foxes, I’d be more than interested in seeing Barnes go up against him for 30 minutes or so.

Let’s get ready to rumble!
I for one hope that I don't have to witness that next season. I think Barnes time at Burnley is up. Many will disagree though.

I get that, but that was last year
If you was Leicester, would you still want to pay the same amount for a player 1yr older with only a year left on contract, without at least trying to pay less?

I’m fully expecting him to leave this year.
If he doesn’t, fantastic. The league money we’d get for surviving another season would outweigh the fee we’d get for him, especially with the cut Brentford would get and the cost of replacing him.
If we can get somebody in this year happy to wait whilst he’s here, like Tarky himself did with Keane, then even better

Being blokes of sounds business acumen, I’m sure this will have been factored in.

He won’t. He won’t because he can’t play in the England system.

I think Tarks has been told that he needs to play for a club that plays a model that replicates the challenges he’d face playing for his country. He’s seeking that challenge. Personally, I don’t think he’ll make the step up and he’ll sit out a lucrative contract at a top six club before coming back to what he knows and loves.

We should definitely use this to get a couple from Leicester, Justin the right back and Choudhury in midfield would provide depth to the squad, youth and quality.

Insider information doesn't mean it's 100% correct as things change very quickly in football. It was correct at the time you were told.

Just look at how many player signing reports CT has written, but had to scrap.
Very little was correct, it was rumour and nothing more.

Good heavens, some people on here try to justify giving out incorrect information. I've heard it all now!

Seems a little excessive to expect them to throw in first 11 regulars, they have an abundance of options at right back, Amartey, Ricardo, Justin, Albrighton, Castagne. Ricardo clearly the first choice but has been out injured for most of last year, I'd expect Justins game time to be minimal with Pereira back fully fit and we do need a younger upgrade at right back.

I might be wrong but I don’t think the clubs Twitter department deals with player sales. You’d be better off asking Darren Bentley he’s above Alan Pace in the reckoning

Has it been reported anywhere credible or have folk got giddy again cos some kid (that nobody on here had heard of until today) with lots of Twitter followers drew a few more in?

Bit like last week when a click bait site said Palace were coming in for Dyche.

Would be a surprise to me if he doesn’t leave this close season . An ambitious player and a manager who is supportive of his players.
I think it was a case of play one more season for me and I’ll not stand in your way if a club comes in for you .
Tarks goes if he’s wanted

No, the value remaining at the point of renewal, plus the agents fee for the renewal work is then straight lined amortised to the end of the contract, it reduces the amortisation but does not cancel it. In case your wondering the agents fee for the initial transfer was added to the transfer fee for initial amortisation calculation. That is something I learned earlier today.

I doubt it matters what his book value is. The decision whether to sell or not is based on lots of factors including the money coming in, the money it will cost to sign a replacement, any motivational problems the player might have, squad happiness, manager happiness, etc etc etc. How much he cost several years ago and what the accounting entry might be, won't come into it. That is a sunk cost.

Only SD and Tarks himself will know if a move is imminent. I for one will miss him-he has been the Van Dyke of our club in many games. One of the best defenders in 60 years of following our club. Definitely the best defender in the last 50 years for me. If thats the case I trust SD to target a high calibre replacement who walks into team. There are a number of options out there. If he went it could be for £25m with add ons and taking 27.5% off for Brentford, it leaves around £18m. This would secure a number of names we are linked with Souttar, Henry, Collins Worrall, and maybe leave around £6m for other acquisitions. Then of course we have £8m coming in for Gibson too. Hate to say it but in a window in which we need to move smartly it would help deals to happen

My take on it is that if we sell Tarks we will need every penny we get plus a bit more to adequately replace him.

I think you will be slightly upset when this transfer happens. More likely get 15m for Tarks now.

Some of the players you have mentioned will probably cost more than we receive Tarks at this point which is crazy.

With Moyes signing a new 3 year deal and being a known admirer of JT, we could hopefully see another bidding war between WHU and Leicester in the coming weeks maximising his value to us (and just accept Brentford will get part of any monies)

Both will need an extra CB as they enter the Europa next season

Problem is, Dyche will not let him go (quite rightly) until a replacement is in the building. If any offers come in within the next weeks and we have no such replacement, those clubs may move on to other targets if any deal cannot get done

Just make sure that toe is wrapped on cotton wool ;)

He will leave a massive hole for us to fill, however if he's adamant about not signing a new contract, then we have 2 options, 1) keep him and see him walk away for nothing in 12 months time, 2) recoup what we can in this window and make sure we source a decent replacement, be that Collins or somebody else.

As other posters have mentioned our best hope of maximising his fee is too get Leicester & West Ham involved in a bidding war, at least that way we've got a chance of getting closer to £20-25m for Tarks, although I admit that would be top end for a player entering the final year of his existing contract, and a large chunk of any fee will go to Brentford, but if he wants to go I don't see we have much choice but to let him go should a suitable offer come on the table.

The most important thing is too get this deal finalised ASAP, and then get any new signings bedded in as soon as we can, I'd be reasonably confident that Ben Mee would be able to form a new partnership with any newbie, but a decent pre-season would be extremely helpful in that regard to build an understanding.

If he was to stay till the end of his contract then leave, I’m assuming we won’t owe Brentford there substantial sell-on fee?

There is no sale, so sell on clause is null.

The fickle West Ham fans apparently don’t want him now. They say that he didn’t want to come when they finished sixteenth but he does now as they’ve finished sixth. One actually says that, and I quote, ‘he can rot in hell’. Not very nice fans. I can’t think why he would want to go there.

There’s no way either West Ham or Leicester City are paying £20/£25m for James Tarkowski. Two of the best signing last year were Fofana and Coufal. Why would either club pay that money for a player available for free in 12 months time? It’d make no sense.

It does if he is planning to go to a different club in 12 months.

Leicester have failed twice now due to injuries to get into the CL

They'd pay that I think for Tarks, but its whether its what he wants and what we want

My opinion is that we sell to be honest if the offer comes in

Or if they think they will be outbid by better terms when it comes to signing on fee, salary and bonuses.

He's being pretty optimistic if he thinks he'll do better than Leicester or West Ham.

Who knows, if we sign a few players he might be more inclined to see out his contract here. Someone met him at the cricket last week and he said he's pretty much given up on England, which I don't blame him really.

I meant that if he is planning to go to Leicester the only way West Ham get him is now.
