Well disappointing to say the least against statistically the worst side in premier lge history. Genuinely fear for us next year
It's disappointing to say the least, but Sheff Utd are nowhere near the worst team in PL history.

Remember Derby's 11 points, or Huddersfield's 17 point haul, there maybe others that have fared worst then Sheff Utd's final tally of 23, but I can't bring them to mind off the top of my head.

That said if we don't substantially invest in the squad, then yes I too fear for us next season.

It’s ok they’ll announce that Brady will be like a new signing later this week and he’s done enough to sign a 3 yr deal. That’ll show real intent.

We just didn’t get any second balls today. Another shocking performance against the worst team in the league.

Thank goodness that season is over. I’ve hated most of it.
I’ll give football a month at the start of next season and if the ills aren’t improved I’m giving up to it.
Corrupt VAR decisions
Squealing and acting by players
Time wasting. From keepers holding the ball forever to refusing to take GKs, players standing on the ball at FKs, kicking the ball away from FKs, etc.,
Arguing with refs when they know he was correct.
It’s not the game I grew up loving.

Started off with the wrong formation which showed us to be ponderous and slow

Couldn't get out of that gear even with the half time change (should have been JBG off not Brownhill)

Only thought from the manager to try another change was four strikers !

Remarkable season and all credit to the players, coaching staff and Dyche for keeping us in the best league in world football.

We only brought in one player for less than a million a remarkable effort

We secured our Premier League place for next year with three games to spare and finished the season eleven points above the relegation zone, I'd have settled for that last August and positively snatched your hand off for such an offer by October.
What's not to like? Onward and upward.

The worst thing about a showing like that and about where we've ended up (17th!) is that if Tarks, Pope and even Dyche himself are wrestling with a "should I stay or should I go" scenario, then this could just tip them over the edge and that would make an extremely bad situation a hell of a lot worse!!

It's not rubbish at all. How many times have teams run unchallenged from the halfway line?
Irrelevant when the opposition are not of the same quality. If Ben is playing today they don’t score. You can argue the toss about the other games but we played better in both and got stuffed by good teams. Today reminded me of one of our don’t give a monkeys cup type performances against a lower league team with nobody wanting to get injured. Completely different to how we have backed off in other games in my view.

Absolutely correct.

People can ask the question of ‘where is the money’ r.e ALK. It is time it was found. Alan Pace talked a good game upon arrival, but results in the market will determine how he is regarded. No amount of tarted up big screens, elaborate hospitality sections for the prawn sandwich brigade and professional women’s teams will make a difference to our new owners perception if we do not spend more this window than in any window in our history (before sales).

My optimism for that happening is somewhere around ‘non existent’.

The bottom line is that over half the team today are not even up to Championship standard. Hopefully Pace will start to take some of the power off SD like who we are looking at signing, and exploiting the loan market. He may be great for our club but everything it seems is driven by him. Vydra did more in the first 10 minutes than half the team did in the first half. Playing Brownhill behind Wood is an insult to Vydra and hopefully the business can start to challenge the manager on these type of decisions. Has their ever been a worse PL goalkeeper than Norriss. Absolute shocking

The statistics i was referring to, where that if sheff Utd lost today it would be the first time a side has lost 30 games in a premier lge season
Also the Mcgoldrick goal that got them to 20 goals saved them from being the first side since 1888 to not score 20 goals in a season since Loughborough .

So statistically they are pretty bad

A really depressing performance to end a depressing season. I genuinely fear where we are going, culmination of poor window after poor window is coming home to roost. We have somehow avoided the drop this season, but the alarm bells should be sounding on overload now. This summer is absolutely pivotal. Pace has a hell of a job on his hands.
Add into the mix, a first team squad with an average that will be over 30 next season. How exciting is next season going to be.

Oh1I don't deny they're bad, and they have been all season, hence why they're rooted to the foot of the league, and I make absolutely no excuses for our lethargic showing today, that simply wasn't good enough whether we're safe or not.

Haven’t we already extended Bardsley’s contract ? Pretty sure we’re desperate to do the same with Brady. If you’re over 30, or close, you’re pretty safe on getting a contract extension for the most part. There’s literally no chance the likes of Stephens and the footballer’s footballer that is “Ash” are departing. We’ve even extended Longy’s contract. Wow.

If there's 8 cheap, over the hill, injury prone 30+ about there is every chance.

Could quite easily be 8 Stephen's, Norris, Walters, Lennon, Crouch, Pieters or Bardsley type signings floating about.

Exciting times!

It's worth looking on UptheClarets squad list.
there are only 2 regular starters whose current contracts won't see them into their thirties.
We can only get shot of Brady and Dunne, plus (I think) Mumbongo and the promising Thomas

Ageing squad, few players with sell on value, too many tired legs, same old tactics until these lot retire?

I said I don’t understand why the number 30 is a threshold used to define when a player is old and past it.

I think two or three in the team is good,
My concern is that if you are giving contracts to players that may take those players close to their retirement age it must be difficult to really motivate them, and even more difficult to bring in new ideas.

It’s a well known fact really at post 30 for a footballer your better days are behind you & plummeting value & niggling injuries start occurring more frequently, a few aren’t so bad for the experience you need the right blend throughout.

Yeah I agree that the squad is getting a little old, just pointing out that the difference between a 28 year old and a 30 year old is fairly negligible in terms of what they can offer.

I think the age of our squad is a result of the reality of our standing in the big league. Naturally our very talented young players will be sold onto bigger clubs. And we will struggle to compete for young players who are better than the experienced players we have. So it is easier for us to sign players coming towards the end of their career, and even easier to extend the contracts of existing players coming to the end of their career.

Signing young players to develop would be nice, but again it is difficult to give them the opportunities with the stakes so high. I guess that’s the reason for the sizeable investment into our academy set up.

Yeah I agree that the squad is getting a little old, just pointing out that the difference between a 28 year old and a 30 year old is fairly negligible in terms of what they can offer.

Signing young players to develop would be nice, but again it is difficult to give them the opportunities with the stakes so high. I guess that’s the reason for the sizeable investment into our academy set up.
I'm concerned about the reduced contribution from older players due to inevitable fitness issues.
this would be offset if we were bringing through younger players, but I don't think our manager is that keen.

You haven't seen BPF? Norris beat by the Bouncing ball today...

It's worth looking on UptheClarets squad list.
there are only 2 regular starters whose current contracts won't see them into their thirties.
We can only get shot of Brady and Dunne, plus (I think) Mumbongo and the promising Thomas
Exactly

If there's 8 cheap, over the hill, injury prone 30+ about there is every chance.

Could quite easily be 8 Stephen's, Norris, Walters, Lennon, Crouch, Pieters or Bardsley type signings floating about.

Exciting times!
Pieters, imo, is pretty good out of that group! :D
