Re: ARTICLE: Tom Heaton set to return to where it all started
All the best Tom. He was a terrific servant for the Clarets and played a very large part in our recent successes.
Re: ARTICLE: Tom Heaton set to return to where it all started
He's gone from not getting a game at Villa to not getting a game at United. Not saying I wouldn't make that choice given the finances, but he could definitely have found a club where he'd have been number 1.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue May 25, 2021 4:13 pmHe's 35, not played since NYD 2020 and he probably feels it's a better bet than not getting a game at Villa.

Re: ARTICLE: Tom Heaton set to return to where it all started
Effectively semi-retiring, but understandable I suppose.
He can, if he wishes, take time to get his coaching badges etc and get involved with bringing in a new generation of Utd goalies, plus he can help Henderson develop with his experience.
Great keeper for us, which I didn't expect after we got him for free.
Good luck to him.

Re: ARTICLE: Tom Heaton set to return to where it all started
If De Gea goes (as expected) and Henderson carries on with his limp wrists he might find himself playing for Utd
Re: ARTICLE: Tom Heaton set to return to where it all started
Why is everyone assuming he's going there to be number 3? Solskjaer may see him as the perfect backup for Henderson if De Gea goes. Capable, experienced and won't rock the boat. Good luck to him.

From what I’ve seen from the two back ups although he’s not played for 18 months I’d feel more confident and comfortable with him as a back up to Pope. Would allow BPF to go out on loan for regular first team football in championship.

I’m sure he’ll be No1 at United before long - DeGea is likely to be going and Henderson has been poor with many MU fans saying he isn’t good enough

Re: ARTICLE: Tom Heaton set to return to where it all started
Decent move for Tom, and he's probably got more chance of getting games at Utd than Villa, don't forget they'll be competing on several fronts next season, so if De Gea does move on he will at worst play in quite a few of their cup games, similar to what Joe Hart has done for Spurs this season, and unless Henderson bucks his ideas up he could easily find Tom usurping him in the pecking order.
Funnily enough OT was probably has greatest day in a Clarets shirt, it seemed no matter what Utd threw at him that day they were never going to get past him, notably his wonder save from Zlatan, when a goal looked all but certain.
Hope he enjoys his time at OT and yes he'll definitely go in the history books as a Burnley legend, and he wasn't a bad signing for a freebie was he.

Re: ARTICLE: Tom Heaton set to return to where it all started
Good luck Tom, a great GK for Burnley and a great leader on and off the field.
The move will probably be down to his home location, semi retirement , and probably be able to complete his coaching badges whilst using the best facilities there is and passing on his experience to the best up and coming youth keepers there are.
Man Utd also get a very competent 2nd or 3rd choice GK.
A good move for all parties I'd say.

We could certainly do far worse than him as a goalkeeping coach, though even he'd have his work cut out with BPF & Norris, he's good but he's not a miracle worker.

Two serious injuries, good decision to take on a coaching role IMO.
Re: ARTICLE: Tom Heaton set to return to where it all started
He could end up being No.2 to Nick Pope
Where???

Good luck to him...fantastic goalkeeper. One of the best I've seen play for Burnley. Certainly in the McDonald, Blacklaw & Pope group.

Shame wouldn’t have minded him back here as 2nd choice for next season. Fantastic servant to the club both on and off the pitch.

Good luck to him and hopefully this move also confirms that Nick Pope's not going anywhere this summer? If he were then TH coming back here would've been a pleasant alternative for a few more years until BPF & Norris improve/get more experience/get replaced; I could live with the fact that TH's over thirty.

Re: ARTICLE: Tom Heaton set to return to where it all started
He could easily be No.2, either if De Gea goes or if they feel Henderson needs another 12 months elsewhere. This could be a good chance for him to win some silverware late in his career.
Re: ARTICLE: Tom Heaton set to return to where it all started
All the best to Tom, but he’s still a far better ‘keeper than United’s third choice.

Re: ARTICLE: Tom Heaton set to return to where it all started
Top player and one of my favourite all time clarets.
Ironically two of the best Heaton moments as a Burnley player both came at old Trafford.
One in the game where he was incredible. And made that remarkable save from zlatan.
And the other when he was injured and he was in the stands with the fans sat right next to us. And took time out throughout half time to speak to and spend time with the fans young an old.
Top pro. Leader on the field. And another reason why we have been where we are these last few years.
So unfortunate that he had those freak injuries. He deserved more england caps.
Can still here him now marshalling that defence.
GET UP. GET UP.

He’s been incredibly unlucky with injuries.
I think he’d have been England No.1 for a few years had it not been for that Palace game.

Best of luck to him.
Part of a team who brought us into a new golden era.
Never gonna forget the pride in Burnley when he got called up to the England squad.

Tom Heaton
Agreed a deal to go back to Man Utd to Jun 2023 with option for another year.
Would have loved to see him back here, challenge Pope for a start and bring on/develop BPF.

Briefly whilst he was the only senior keeper they had. As soon as the transfer window opened they got someone else in and he was benched from then on.

In the 2018-19 season he mustered up 29 appearances for them so wasn’t exactly in the wilderness.djemba-djemba wrote: ↑Mon Jun 14, 2021 5:56 pmBriefly whilst he was the only senior keeper they had. As soon as the transfer window opened they got someone else in and he was benched from then on.

Yep, that link there tells you he wasn’t good enough for Leeds in the Championship. His own manager at the time as good as said it.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Mon Jun 14, 2021 6:00 pmIn the 2018-19 season he mustered up 29 appearances for them so wasn’t exactly in the wilderness.

That link tells me somebody must have thought he was worthy enough to be selected 29 times, the season before he won the player of the year for them, the link doesn’t tell me how goals conceded & clean sheets, he’s only 24 he’s young for a keeper & will improve.djemba-djemba wrote: ↑Mon Jun 14, 2021 6:07 pmYep, that link there tells you he wasn’t good enough for Leeds in the Championship. England's best all round goalkeeper imo. Hope he can do a van der Sar and play for them into his 40's. Would be brilliant to see him get a chance and take it.

Henderson’s a cocky so and so (although very talented) so it wouldn’t be surprise if Tom did get an opportunity.
All the best to him. He’ll always be a Burnley legend.

I remember being in the Charlton end when we won the Championship and listening to fans slagging off Pope. Useless lanky t*#t etc etc.djemba-djemba wrote: ↑Mon Jun 14, 2021 6:07 pmYep, that link there tells you he wasn’t good enough for Leeds in the Championship. Maybe BPF will come good. Time will tell but I certainly wouldn’t write him off.

All the best, Tom. One of the best keepers that the Clarets have had.
One game stands out for me. The home game against West Ham which followed the 1-5 home defeat by Everton. Dyche finally had the balls to drop Hart and put Tom in. I recall the noise when the teams walked out at the West Ham game and the home crowd shouting 'Heaton, Heaton, Heaton'. The change of keeper worked, Clarets winning 3-0.
