Killa on the pitch at the Europa League final
Just spotted Craig Mawson advising David de Gea ahead of the penalty shoot out. Just over a year ago he was academy goalkeeping coach at Burnley. Top bloke.

Astonishing shoot out
Re: Killa on the pitch at the Europa League final
Best shootout I've ever seen. What is the record for consecutive pens scored in a shootout?

That was really something to see, such drama. However, De Gea's effort was, well....less than stellar!

Re: Killa on the pitch at the Europa League final
The only other time I can remember it getting to both goalkeepers was the League One play off final in 2012 between Huddersfield & Sheffield United but six of the first eight were missed that day. Matt Lowton missed one of them. Scott Arfield scored one for Huddersfield.

Both keepers were awful. Half hearted dives constantly. Comms were right, ManU should have fetched Henderson on for the shoot out.

Thatl be the last of De Gea for United
Might as well award his fellow countrymen some joy

De Gea pretty poor on the penalties I thought, although a fair few unstoppable ones.
Re: Killa on the pitch at the Europa League final
I suppose that's the problem when you drill into a keeper that he must never hit the ball hard, he must play it gently towards another player.

Re: Killa on the pitch at the Europa League final
I wonder how Nick Pope would react if he was in De Gea's position to score the pen? Maybe a quick trip to the dressing room to slip on a pair of Depends?
Oh, hang on, he'd more than likely stop at least one of Villarreal's pens.

But I’d have done that more as a psychological point that we had some expert penalty saver... if they’re both rubbish you might as well!

De Gea has failed to save any of his last 35 penalties faced.
If he stood still one would eventually hit him.

If they’d had Jensen on the bench, they’d have caught the earlier bus home!
Re: Killa on the pitch at the Europa League final
I remember a League cup game between Middlesbrough and Liverpool that had about 30 penalties in the shootout.

He should have run up to the ball and headed it.

Mawson "David, we need you to keep at least one of the penalties out of the net"
De Gea "Message received and understood"

DeGea never looked like stopping one. His decline over the last two years is pretty severe, he was one of the best in the world not long ago.
Marlon Beresford would have saved half of them, back in the day, before he lost it.

See some bellends have targeted Rashford for racial abuse after the match. He has commented a maths teacher has sent his monkey emojis in a private message in 1 of over 70 comments aimed at him.
Hopefully the teacher is identified and potted, bit of a worry someone like that is placed in educating children

Re: Killa on the pitch at the Europa League final
Villarreal keeper took his PK like it was a goal kick. Hit it hard and you're halfway there, as even if the opposition keeper chooses correctly it's not guaranteed he'll stop a piledriven effort.
De Gea took his PK like it was a pass out from the back! That said, the Villarreal player about 2 rounds before also did a sidefooted passed effort into the goal but because he sent the goalie the wrong way the commentry team were praising his coolness. Any pen that goes in is a good pen I guess.
