I tbought in the pre-match interviews Tuchel appeared much more focused and "in control" than Pep.

Re: Predictions for tomorrow's games.
Well as it turned out I called these both correctly for once, now why can't I do that on Super6 when it matters.

Re: Guardiola
Chelsea were superb defensively and so physically strong. Should be title contenders next year with this manager.
Peps tactics were strange but it was more than that. Players just didn't turn up, the passing was slow and not to standard.

Re: Guardiola
I disagree there were three or four chances where there was no striker in sight.
Also on top of that having no striker means Chelsea are under less pressure.

Pep dropping big players for that semi final. Pure arrogance.

Re: Guardiola
Agree referee superb. Can’t abide Chelsea but they deserved to win no doubt. City lost their composure and fully agree that Pep cocked it up. That’s what you get for managing an embarrassment of riches, badly. How can you play the most creative midfielder in the game as a centre forward. Utterly bizarre.
Re: Guardiola
I’m no fan of Chelsea but they’re infinitely more likeable than Guardiola, Man City and their fans, who combined have become the most arrogant team on the planet. Bottle jobs.
They’ll probably win the Premier League again next season but no one really cares.

Re: Guardiola
Pep has tore sides apart with a false nine system so many times, They lose one and he’s clueless and at fault

Re: Predictions for tomorrow's games.
Me too. Thought City would win clearly.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat May 29, 2021 10:04 pmWithout a doubt Chelsea were the better side and I thought City would have too much for them.
But they really starved City out of any space in the areas the normally dominate.
And when they did threaten now and then, Chelsea's defending was superb.
Decent enough game to watch, without reaching anything like a classic tag.

Because you have to make 6 predictions rather than 2

Re: Guardiola
Ten years since he won the champions league now. That’s ultimately what he will be judged by. Especially at city. But he didn’t do it with an unbelievable Bayern side and can’t do it with a bottomless pit at city.
His tactics tonight were laughable. But have been in the last two big cup meetings with Chelsea.

Re: Guardiola
Don’t think it’s about being clueless- and they have mastered football with the false 9. But it’s very rare he’s not played rodri nor Fernandinho.
De Bruyne has not been deployed in that position effectively this season. I was shocked he played there looked out of sorts all night until his exit.

Re: Guardiola
Spot on. It’s ok turning over teams like Burnley week in week out (let’s face it we’d be a good side in La Liga and the German league) but his tactics in the champions league have been suspect.cricketfieldclarets wrote: ↑Sat May 29, 2021 10:30 pmTen years since he won the champions league now. Re: Guardiola
He can't help trying to be a smart ar5e, he just can't help himself. Just pick a team to get the job done. City looked and played for the 1st hour a team without a proper striker, because (and this isn't rocket science) they didn't have a striker on the pitch.
It was hilarious watching a billion quid team chasing the the game in the last 10 minutes like Burnley would do, long high diagonal balls and all that

Re: Guardiola
Messi as false nine = great idea
De Bruyne as false nine = stupid.
Guardiola has always got to overthink everything. Tries to be clever and try something new in the champions league final of all games… I’m sure with another year of millions thrown at it they will get there one day.

Re: Guardiola
‘Pep’ is an absolute fraud. Good manager but not this superhuman like he thinks he is.
I guarantee the City owners and fans would swap him at this moment in time for Klopp or even Tuchel after tonight. They’ll just never admit it.
Barcelona, Real Madrid, Liverpool, Bayern will all be stronger next season. He’ll never get a better chance to win the Champions League with City than he did tonight and he ballsed it up.

Re: Guardiola
In that situation Chris Wood would have been more effective than any Man City player on the pitch. As they said in the commentary the likes of Foden were up against six foot plus defenders.THEWELLERNUT70 wrote: ↑Sat May 29, 2021 10:34 pm

He definitely outdid him tonight, that’s for sure. I was surprised at Pep’s line up too.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Sat May 29, 2021 10:29 pmTuchel's record against Guardiola is off the charts good, proper nemesis !
As was said further up the thread, this Chelsea team could be a real threat going forward if they could find a quality striker.

Re: Predictions for tomorrow's games.
Posted this on the match thread but seems more on topic to copy it here:
Very good manager but has messed up the big games regularly. Messi wasn’t there to bale him out today.
Kante ran the match. World class. Showed what City were missing. The other thing they are missing is Kane - they need to buy him at any price.
But back to Pep, you don’t win matches with square pegs in round holes - they had that at left back, at holding midfield, and up front. Huge errors.

If they sign Kane (big if that is) they walk the league next year.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat May 29, 2021 10:44 pmHe definitely outdid him tonight, that’s for sure. I was surprised at Pep’s line up too.

Best player on the pitch tonight, Kante.

Re: Predictions for tomorrow's games.
Chelsea had several MOTM contenders James & Mount were very influential, but I'd have to give it to Kante, and his influence is seen when he's not playing, which is often the case with great players, you don't notice them until they're missing.
Chelsea won the game because they did the basics well, defend your box and frustrate City, then when the chance presents hit on the break, and it worked a treat again, City have now played Tuchel's Chelsea 3 times and they've only scored one goal, that tells you everything you need to know, and Chelsea's clean sheet record under TT is astounding, and if you're hard to break down you'll always have a chance with the likes of Mount in your side to create something, which he duly did with a delicious pass for the goal.
