Newport squander a sitter, do you ever get the feeling it's not going to be their day, 0-0 15 mins from pens.
Speaking of pens Morecambe have just been awarded one.
Scored 1-0 to the Shrimpers.

Take VARse out of it, and this is the result.
My split second reaction on seeing it live was penalty. If it was the premier league then the commentators would be saying “he’s entitled to go down”

That is the reason I am all for VAR, never a penalty
These play off games are far to big to not have VAR on board, ridiculous

If it stays like this I wouldn't like to be in Mike Flynn's vicinity this evening, he will not be a happy man, and with good reason too.

It was a ‘county borough’. A term applied to boroughs which undertook what were otherwise county functions. The term ceased to exist under the 1974 reorganisation of local government

Madley has a shocking afternoon. So many poor decisions including the pen he didn’t give and the one he did.

Of course there's always a loser, but to miss out on promotion due to an incompetent ref is not the way you want to lose a PO final.box_of_frogs wrote: ↑Mon May 31, 2021 5:32 pmShould’ve worked harder for the rest of the season. There’s always a loser on these days!!
And it wasn't like either decision was even debatable, Newport should have been given a blatant spot kick in the 1st half, and the Morecambe award is questionable on so many levels, it probably wasn't even a foul, and then if it was given as a foul it may well have been outside the box by all accounts, and the 2nd point is where VAR would have been useful for once, as the evidence would have been 100% for that call.
Well done to Morecambe ultimately the gods were in their favour today and they duly took full advantage of that, but you have to feel sympathy for Newport losing in that way.

It's been a good weekend for both of the Lancashire coastal teams, morecambe were very fortunate but if Newport had buried there chances the situation would have not bit them on the bum.

A poor game lacking in skill and guile, refereeing was atrocious.

Re: Morecambe v Newport
Apparently punching someone in the head is OK now yet standing behind someone whilst they throw themselves to the floor is a foul! Shocking afternoon by all the officials.
If VAR was used it probably wouldn't have changed anything. As we have seen this season VAR is just used to back up the on field officials decisions no matter how shocking they are. VAR needs an overhaul. It needs to be run by someone who is impartial, who actual knows the laws of the game and who isn’t mates with the on field ref. Surely that isn’t too much to ask for.

Re: Morecambe v Newport
I saw that. Must have been a lot of bad blood between him and Adams to cause that reaction given how long he was at the club for.Clarets4me wrote: ↑Mon May 31, 2021 5:03 pmDidn't he taunt Derek Adams after scoring against Morecambe earlier this season ?
He could either score the winner, or miss the deciding penalty in a shoot-out .... the sporting Gods have a funny way of making you look foolish !
NB: I hope this is Lee Hendrie's last game as a summariser .... shockingly bad !
Wonder what the Morecambe fans think of it all?

Was said in TV today that when Adams took over he banished Ellison from the first team squad and made him train on his own.JohnDearyMe wrote: ↑Mon May 31, 2021 8:49 pmI saw that. Must have been a lot of bad blood between him and Adams to cause that reaction given how long he was at the club for.

Would you rather discuss an awful decision by VAR or an awful decision by the referee ? Discuss....

Re: Morecambe v Newport
... Whoever he is, he's one brave boy calling time in the process.
Re: Morecambe v Newport
Congratulations to Ryan Conney he may be a Burnley player but after two season long loans at Morecambe he's been a big part of that team. I wonder if Burnley will consider letting him go back next season to test himself in League One?
Adam Phillips was massive for them in the first half of the season. At Accrington he took a while to find his feet but didn't become the penalty taker or get to take the set pieces like he did at Morecambe. I don't think he did enough at Accy to attract admiring glances from the Championship so I wonder whether he'd choose Morecambe or Accrington if he gets the chance to return to League One next season.
Really pleased that that they got promoted whatever the referee did or didn't do.

Yes it would make sense for them to go and play at a decent standard, of course if they do move on we'll at least get compensation for both as they're each under 24.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Jun 01, 2021 11:56 amWouldn’t surprise me if Cooney & Phillips opt to move on now they know they can get regular first team football

Morecambe looking for a new manager for their season in L1
