you may want to build a basic salary increase into that - which is quite likely, Pace appears to like our gearing in regard to bonuses though

As has been alluded to on the thread, it looks like the owners have made commitments around new squad additions, changes in the structures at Gawthorpe and probably on the player support side that Dyche has been talking about in the last few months. I do wonder what this actually means to our financial position, with all the outstanding financial commitments and likely low cash position, ALK came into ownership of the club quite possibly with not spending a penny of their own money in the acquisition (as I have previously demonstrated) have committed extraordinary amounts of monies on the clubs behalf (and appear to be committing much more) to non football/revenue generating activities and are now appearing to commit to spend substantial amounts around the club, that will have implications for years to come. Revenues are substantially down on last year (probably below those of 2016/17) wages are high ( likely to be at 70% or more) and our dependency on broadcast payments have never been higher.

There is much for ALK and friends to do on revenue generation if Checketts is not to lose his third sporting franchise through lack of funds.
More guesswork and conjecture around finances.

Just leave it alone for a while and let fans enjoy the excitement of a different approach.

There’s no doubt that from an accountant’s perspective the club is taking on more risk with the new approach (by definition, risk can of course pay off, but may not). That adds to the additional risk caused by the pandemic.

Therefore I tend to view keeping Dyche as important as a way of de-risking relegation. I don’t like the style, I don’t like the approach to cups, but pragmatically those things may have to take a back seat in the short term. Therefore I applaud this news if true.

There are too many “unknowns” to form a strong opinion either way.

As I’ve said from very early, time will tell whether the approach is good or bad and as time passes more concrete information will come available to fill the gaps and create a much clearer picture.

For now, let’s see where it takes us.

Indeed and that is more or less what I have said previously a number of times, for those who may have forgotten

today's post was just reiterating some of those risks, though I accept to some it may have required the further re-statement that Dyche helps in the de-risking, I considered it but did not feel it was necessary, as I thought my position on that was crystal clear

A new contract for Dyche would be a massive boost and a great statement of intent.

Obvious, but true.

Just got to hope that with a new contract will come an increased emphasis on improving the team after some real neglect and poor, bargain bucket additions. He really did perform a miracle getting us to safety with such a cushion.

I don't always get on with the style, but I'm hopeful that will change with better players and a move to a system that allows us to get a better hold on the midfield. Get us playing like 2017/18 and I'll be delighted, and I'm not talking about the 7th place finish, just the style we used.

If we could tie Sean down to a long contract this summer that would be great news, and hopefully signal that we're intent on keeping our place at the top table however tough that task will still remain.

Will SD staying play any part in whether Tarks commits his long-term future to Burnley?, or is it a pipe dream that we can persuade him to stay.

I do agree with other posters that it would be nice if we could adapt our style to be more attractive, but ultimately that can't be at the cost of relegation, especially as there's question marks over how we'd possibly service any debt repayments if we happened to be plying our trade in the Championship for a season or two.

On the topic of style improving - it’s simply a case of improving the quality of player. When Defour was here and we had Brady and JBG in form plus Hendrick operating in an advanced position we played some incredibly effective and somewhat attractive football. Improving the quality of player likely means spending money. A ball playing centre mid and right winger would see a dramatic improvement in style of play. The framework and system is there.

Indeed it is. I had asked previously for his own views on it and he said something along the lines of ‘I don’t share my own personal views on it as I don’t want it to influence what others may think and want them to form their own opinions’ - glad to see he did it in the end.

I still prefer others to form their views, via their own research and applied knowledge - I will say I am not a fan of emotional and/or evidence/knowledge free opinion

I'd argue that certainly in the latter part of the season our style did improve, as did our goal return, and a lot of that was done to Vydra coming into the fold, but also Chris Wood finally getting his best form back, however the downside to this is that we conceded a lot more chances and goals as a result, so somehow SD needs to find a formula which allows us to still carry a threat going forwards, but doesn't mean we'll be shipping goals on a regular basis, difficult to achieve competing at this level, but yes obviously a couple of decent recruits in key areas would help us immensely in that regard.

Dyche has been very confident recently that Tarkowski will be here next season but that looks as if it’s preferred that he runs down his contract rather than be sold this summer.

I just think it is a very expensive and operationally compromising route to bring in their approach, no denying that they bring a more aggressive and creative skillset - which may be a good thing in revenue generation (and needs to be) - so far the best thing they have brought is an end to the managers negative focus and the consequent impact on the fans, communication is much improved though I personally think some was unnecessary even naive, the rest is for the most part has been an implementation of the existing road-map of plans (some may be accelerated). I wish them well because of factors other than them, namely the club and the town.

Whilst I certainly do not agree with it's political stance it is really good at sports and more than decent at news when it is either non-political or you can read through the spin.

I don’t it’s just so much as funds but a clear path forward. I still believe we were fortunate to keep him last summer but thankfully there were no vacancies. He’s definitely got a chairman now who is keen to support him publicly and I’m sure Dyche must have been impressed with what he’s been told.

Being told something & actually getting something delivered & actioned could be different, it'll be interesting to see what could later develop in terms of satisfying dyche & whether he feels it's enough to push on with the job at hand, still early days we know there's been friction before in a different scenario & let's hope something backed up with more than words happens for the betterment of the club in general.

If he’s signing a new contract then I’m certain it’s more than words. He’s undoubtedly been given assurances going forward. It’s a major shift from the previous manager/chairman relationship which I’m told was far more toxic than we could have imagined.

Should Dyche sign a new contract, it will be the biggest sign yet that the new owners mean business.

I would be amazed if he hasn't asked for their rationale and some reassurance surrounding the substance of their plan for the short term as a minimum.

So if the contract is signed, I think we can expect the actions to back up the words, at least in terms of intent in improving the team and club infrastructure.

I would be amazed if he hasn't asked for their rationale and some reassurance surrounding the substance of their plan for the short term as a minimum.

So if the contract is signed, I think we can expect the actions to back up the words, at least in terms of intent in improving the team and club infrastructure.
I agree with all of that and hope that Dyche sees himself as integral to the longer term plans.

Whatever those plans may be, they MUST include a strategy for when Dyche does depart. I think we’d all agree that if it was to happen now, the upheaval could be catastrophic.

Someone of Dyche’s standing and tenure departing will always have a significant impact but there needs to be something in place to lessen the impact it will have - if it were me in charge, I’d want Dyche play a key role in that plan.

Dyche has been very confident recently that Tarkowski will be here next season but that looks as if it’s preferred that he runs down his contract rather than be sold this summer.
I think as has been mentioned by others previously, that Tarks is/will struggle to find a club to take him for a fee. I think we’ll see him stay once he gets into January 2022 and there’s no real offers on the table.

The impasse is the fee more the asking price, it's another 1 which will wind down & eventually leave for nothing.

Dyche and Tarkowski are two completely different issues here. They are not joined at the hip.
Personally I think it’s a big ask of Tarkowski to stay for another season and as sure as day follows night he will be off if an acceptable offer comes in for him .

40% to pass on to another club, reduces his actual sale worth to Burnley. Like others, I can see the thinking being to buy another 1 or 2 centre backs, bed him/them in and let Tarkowski go when we are satisfied we have super cover.

It may be that we soar up the league and he signs for us again, you never know! Not holding breath!

It's not quite the level of the Andre gray fee, or Sean Dyches wages, but the Tarky sell on fee % is creeping up slowly now too.

It's certainly not 40%!

It's actually 125%

We are going to give Brentford all of the fee, along with more money because they were so kind to sell him to us.

That sounds more like it, weve still got 93m outstanding to Brentford for the Gray deal, just add any further money owed to that

I'd be amazed if he was in East Lancashire, on a Sunday, in the summer holidays....
It's not the summer holidays, it was a week half term with a bank holiday Monday thrown in.
