Re: Dyche to sign new contract !
I did say at the time that Dyche was on holiday, and I'm sure something as crucial as a new contract would need all.key stake holders meeting face to face, and that includes Woan etc. Now he is back talks may be going on, but the mail article has been proven for what it is.

I think the fact that Collins has signed in June tells us SD has told him there are no issues.

I think SD is handicapped by his playing career. If you’d swapped the careers of Lampard and SD around there is no way Lampard would have had the offers… and everyone would be saying SD deserved a top 10 job… However SD as a player is seen as a blueprint for the teams he manages.

July 7th I believe. Of course Vyds and Wood won't be there at the start.
No friendlies arranged as yet so far as I'm aware.

I believe at least one behind closed doors game has been arranged..... Opposition begins with S.

Being precise here Tony - and I not criticising you in any way. Your belief stems from the information that you have been given, it may be from people at the club but unless it is directly from the key protagonists in the discussion at hand (which some may believe unlikely) it is technically hearsay no matter how much you trust your source and their understanding of the situation. That does not stop it being a step or two in likelihood above the conjecture that I and others have put forward.

While there are plenty on here (no I’m not naming names) who feel they are ‘in the know’ and require the boost of a largely anonymous message board for self justification. While Tony can come across like this through being frank, I don’t have him in that group. If Tony says it I usually pay a bit more attention… I’ve seen him in action finding things out personally often enough to understand Tony rarely these days gets involved without having ‘a feel’ for what is actually going on. Though as I’ve said many times before things can change in an instant in football so no one is foolproof.Chester Perry wrote: ↑Sun Jun 27, 2021 12:56 pmBeing precise here Tony - and I not criticising you in any way. Yep cannot think of a single thing you said that was off the mark… but that is point I was making. One of the things I specialise in is the history of religious influx’s arriving in the area… so I have a left field option within the Mormon church. I contact them about history, but leave the football to guys who have more time.. I may add sniffs I get on the air but I’m rarely actively pursuing them. Although that may change as one local Professor of football history has said he is keen to work with me at a future date, sadly as a labour of love such offers have to remain on the back burner, for now.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Jun 27, 2021 1:16 pmCan’t they? The whole of pre-season was arranged as normal several weeks ago - as ever, even under more normal circumstances, it remains subject to change. When and if they choose to tell the world at large is another issue

I am now confused has dyche:
1. signed a new contract
2. declared publicly he will stay until next season
3. been considered as still in contention for the palace job
4. decided to wait until Wednesday morning when the England job becomes vacant
5. a masterplan to get the signings he wants by indifference.

I thought you were joking on the other thread. That is actually hilarious. You seriously took the word of someone who said Dyche was going to West Brom and didn’t know the difference between Barnsley and Burnley? Classic.

Not sure if this has been mentioned in all the other pages, but The Athletic are reporting the deal on the table is 5 years, salary increase from £70k to £100k a week with “significant bonuses”.
A fair statement of intent from the new owners to tie Dyche down!

Chester, honest question.... I get your nervousness on the debt, how would you suggest we continue to stay at this level and compete if we dont take risks...or would you rather have the alternative ?Chester Perry wrote: ↑Mon Jun 28, 2021 10:39 pmwe are already - Dyche is as close as we have found to not getting relegated - the mission for the board is the same whatever - to dramatically increase non-tv revenues

Re: Dyche to sign new contract !
The alternative has gone, the club was sold and the leverage was used to bring in executive talent not to invest in the club and give it the opportunity to grow revenues - I said that at the time. It is something of an irony in that the revenue generating activities we have witnessed so far were already on the roadmap of the previous board. That is not to say there are other activities occurring that we do not know about as yet.
The relationship between Dyche and Garlick forced the takeover situation, whether you think it was poor communication from Garlick with Dyche, Dyche refusing to believe the state of the clubs finances, or somewhere inbetween (my view). There is also no doubt the loss of Dave Baldwin, and Garlick putting himself in an ex executive role exacerbated an already tense situation.
Any close examination of the finances over the last 5 years will give you the true insight into why our transfer spend has had to drop and as I keep saying it was only the pandemic that stopped last summer being one of significant transfer spend, squad refresh (though by then I do not think that would have repaired the relationship between Dyche and Garlick). It needs to be acknowledged that the decisions taken at that time are what have allowed the club to spend this summer.
The club employed significant risk under Garlick, choosing to grow the club's infrastructure to a level where it was Premier League appropriate (not brilliant but appropriate) after decades of effectively getting by/neglect depending on your perspective. The manager demanded a large part of that spend (rightly and understandably) to improve the players working environment, but that spend also curtailed the clubs desperate need to invest in revenue generating infrastructure and activities. There is a reasonable argument to suggest that the club could have borrowed for such revenue generating investment (but not on players).
What is clearly apparent is that both the previous and current board share the absolute belief in the need to keep Dyche at the club as the best way of ensuring Premier League participation. How much of that is down to his skill set or the way the club is so intrinsically formed to his own desire making any key change dangerously disruptive is open to debate.
For now there is little alternative but to carefully observe what is going on and develop a greater understanding of what has happened previously and how that has set the way forward. For all the debt and small squad, the new owners have been given a great platform to work from and that is thanks to the previous administration. The positive personalities that have come in are managing to change the tone of thinking at the club and in the fanbase - largely because they appear to have changed the tone of Dyche when he his talking about the club (though he is still scathing about Garlick). We should not forget that the takeover is not complete, there is still a large amount of money to be found for that and as yet the preferred route of flipping shares to other investors have not borne fruit (they will need to be convinced by the business plan)
There is much still to be done at the club, the need to significantly grow non-tv revenues has increased as a result of the additional non-football costs (though football costs are appearing to rise just as quickly). Much of those revenues will need to be invested to further grow revenues as we are probably at the limits of our borrowing capability. That means further squad investments are likely to be compromised after the summer without significant player sales. Financing the club through player sales is a familiar model at the club though even Bob Lord found that the balance between sell and retain a fragile one in maintaining the ability to keep in the top league. Of course the financial clout of direct competitors is much stronger these days too.
The track record of Checketts for all it's good points in revenue growth and general operational improvements still gives rise for caution. He has never had the money (and we are yet to see if the other investors do) to see the job through and has been forced to walk away from the teams/franchises he has owned as a result. There is also still a need to understand what the purpose and aim of the investment is. We expect it is to increase the value of the club, but by what multiple - Garlick effectively managed a multiple of around 15 if the new board do that the club would be valued at around £3 billion - does anyone expect that anytime soon.
For those who find that implausible just look at the value of American sports franchises - MLS franchises are all more valuable assets than Burnley Football club (some at 3 times the value) and they share a TV deal that gives them slightly more TV revenue than league 1 clubs and less than half of Championship clubs. This week a 27% stake sale of LA Lakers (NBA) a franchise with similar operational revenues as Burnley FC valued the franchise (which does not own it's arena) at $5 billion.
Of course the aim of American Franchise owners is not just to grow the valuation of their franchise but to create a secondary billion dollar plus business to spin out of it - Three Franchise owners have managed to achieved those valuations from spin offs so far this year as a result of share sales in them.
I believe that for the new owners to be successful in achieving their targets of investment returns they need to sustain a wage + amortisation to revenue ratio of around 70% in the short to medium tern and possibly around 80% in the long term, If they spend as much on players this summer as I think they will and improve contracts of those Dyche wants retained beyond next season then I can see this being at around 95% - 110% depending on end of season placing.
Anyone prepared to do the maths on that thinking will be alarmed at the revenues required to manage it even at current levels of wages and amortisation. I come to that conclusion as a result of all the additional spend that is required at the club (including significant amounts on the Bob Lord and Cricket field stands) and the fact I don't think it can borrow much more, in the short term at least. Achieving it and maintaing Premier League status would attract new investors but very likely lead to an unhappy manager once again.
