Lancashire League Cricket 6/6
Lowerhouse beat Clitheroe chasing 220, I wasn’t over today and watched the 2s.
Looks to have been a Fantastic knock by the captain, was missing a few of the regulars and stood up.

Lancs League 6th June ...
Via the miracle of You-tube, just watched Lowerhouse chase down 221 to beat Clitheroe at Chatburn Road, with just over 2 overs to spare ...
Even with just one fixed camera at mid-wicket, it was a vast improvement on anything happening at Lords or the Riverside !!

A stunning game of cricket at Clitheroe. Not often we get endings like that. Swinging one way then the other. Considering we were weakened with 3 regulars missing a great result.

Colne were heading for another defeat when I left. Tod scored 260 odd and Colne lost 2 wickets early on, including the pro.

Re: Lancashire League Cricket 6/6
Did I see/hear correctly Tom York-Robinson made his lowerhouse debut today?
I'm sure he will still only be 15 or 16 years old now, and if they beat clitheroe with a patched up team it must have been a real team effort.
Great day for cricket, I was busy watching My son play footy for his new team, the first time in 5 years, and he scored his first goal for his new team in a draw against top of the league, such a great feeling!

Re: Lancashire League Cricket 6/6
It certainly was a team effort. Ben Heap got 75, Francois Haasbroek, Paddy Martin and Charlie Cottam all chipped in with 30+, and when they were wobbling at 187/6, after 2 wickets in successive balls, the 54 year old Chris Bleazard entered the fray hitting 15 off 8 balls including a straight six ...MACCA wrote: ↑Sun Jun 06, 2021 8:41 pmDid I see/hear correctly Tom York-Robinson made his lowerhouse debut today?

Re: Lancashire League Cricket 6/6
A fantastic game of cricket. Probably the best league game I have seen and only beaten by the Worsley cup final a few years ago as the best game I have seen. Two teams at the top of their game. Clitheroe more than played their part. I certainly wasn't hoping for much with Jonny not playing, Hawkey still out after his charity walk and Frankie was unable to bowl due to injury.MACCA wrote: ↑Sun Jun 06, 2021 8:41 pmDid I see/hear correctly Tom York-Robinson made his lowerhouse debut today?

It helped their pro injured himself during his century innings and couldn't bowl either.
A good knock from Ben and our middle order turned up and helped us tick over. When we wobbled and it started looking iffy again Blez turned up and swung it back our way.
The sun blazing, a healthy boisterous crowd....all added to the day. Although the £5.20 a pint didn't go down too well with the House faithful

If he's a good un then he needs to be playing 1st 11 cricket at 15.
Glad your sons back playing sport after time out. Mines taken up Rugby League, despite nobody in the family knowing the rules. He got a try so is well happy.

Cricket's certainly more than just a result. That's for sure.
Re: Lancashire League Cricket 6/6
Magnificent recovery by Colne, from 39-6 to 147 all out.
It's just a shame that Tod had scored 264-6!

Is it that much of a shock at Clitheroe?
Double the staff to run the bars at the minute, brewery prices gone up, they have discounted drinks for supporters card holders.
They have posh fans more than likely drink champers.
I presume it would have been a premium lager? At Padiham it's 4.20 for Morretti with 30p knocked off for members.

Ramsbottom used to be a dump but it’s right up there now with that fantastic pavilion. I’d put that second.JohnDearyMe wrote: ↑Mon Jun 07, 2021 2:41 pmProbably my favourite as well. What would be people's top 3 grounds be?
Don’t know about the new clubs in the league.

All beers yesterday at Clitheroe CC were actually £4.30 a pint. The Cumberland sausage swirl on a roll at only £3.50 was a bargain! Real ale at Lowerhouse ( JW Lees MPA ) is £2.90 a pint with 10p off for members. Clitheroe members get a massive 20% discount - that's 86p off!

All the Rossendale clubs have pleasant backdrops. It's that high up in Bacup that you'd be able to see Mt Everest if it was ever sunnyClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Jun 07, 2021 3:22 pmRamsbottom used to be a dump but it’s right up there now with that fantastic pavilion. I’d put that second.

Re: Lancashire League Cricket 6/6
Can’t think of many ‘bad’ grounds around the league now.
Everyone always has their favourites but most grounds are well looked after and great settings with plenty of seating and facilities.
Most clubs run members discounts on beer as well.
Most expensive pint at Lowerhouse is San Miguel at £3.70 or £3.50 members.

Re: Lancashire League Cricket 6/6
You have got yourself a bargain in Sam Miguel there. At least a pound to cheap if it's kept well.
I sometimes go the queen vic before the Turf as the Sam Miguel is always spot on. But it's been £4.20 for the last 4 years or so.
A lot of cheaper pubs in the area but they tend to look after their Real Ales rather than Lagers.

It’s sort of always been expected that clubs are cheaper than pubs but you’ll do well to get a pint of San Miguel anywhere for that kind of price.
I’ll be having a word with Gary Hunt when I see him this weekend and suggesting he puts them up.

It was always the case cricket clubs were cheaper than local pubs, but I think cricket clubs on the whole offer better facilities these days.arise_sir_charge wrote: ↑Mon Jun 07, 2021 6:17 pmMust admit those prices at Colne are cheap in comparison to most places.

Along with most customers who rather pay more for a pint in better places rather than save 20p or so.
So I don't think they need to anymore.
