All changed in the betting for the Palace job again with Favre having turned it down yesterday when everything was agreed.

Favourite is once again Sean Dyche.

At odds of 4/1 though, which suggests that the bookies don't really have a clue who the next manager will be.

I realise that but he was 25/1 at one point yesterday but I saw something last night to suggest they were targeting him again.

That’s two now who have been close but either turned them down or demanded too much. The one thing that concerns me is that if they’re now turning their eyes back towards Dyche, you’d think that there may be something that makes them think it’s at least a possibility.

If two have already turned it down, it makes you think there is something not right about what they are offering. Suspect it is basically a case that they need to dramatically cut their wage bill, don't have a pot of gold to fund future signings and need to sell Zaha. Palace without Zaha are a very different prospect.

Cannot see what would be attractive about that to Dyche at all.

Just seen this on the gossip column:

Crystal Palace turned to former Borussia Dortmund boss Lucien Favre in their pursuit of a new manager after baulking at Steve Cooper's £3m release clause at Swansea. (90min)

If there’s any truth in that, it hopefully means they’ll not go in for Dyche.

My reading of the situation is that they have wanted Dyche or at least wanted to seriously consider him and will have therefore have sounded him out.

He mustn’t have given them any encouragement then and I would have thought he would give them even less encouragement after the support he seems to be getting from the new owner’s coming to fruition.

At least that is what I hope.

You get the impression something isn't right at Palace. Not saying Dyche wouldn't go. But unemployed managers keep turning them down and half their players are out of contract.

I'm sure they had one of the top 20 wage bills in world football a couple of years ago.

A very good chance Palace will be relegated. Too much upheaval will cost them.

I noticed that Nathan Collins cited Dyche’s record in improving players as part of his rationale for moving to us . Hopefully this is an indicator that SD had made it clear they will be working together for the foreseeable.

I think that these issues at Palace, Everton and Spurs regards hiring new managers may be signs of the financial side of football at the top level is about to implode. Prices and wages are at unsustainable levels for most clubs now. The lack of income over the last 15 months or so from a spectator channel has maybe made a few chairmen have a rethink.

Very good points. If they can't persuade someone who is out of work to take the job, what chance do they realistically have with someone who is in a safe job and is extremely well paid - even by by PL standards?

Palace have lost, one way or another, 8 full-time managers since Dyche took the job at Burnley. I suspect that for Dyche to move, knowing that Palace sack their managers easily and have a massive rebuilding job in store, he would want a cast-iron contract worth far more than Palace would be wiling to guarantee.

More than that the latest rumour suggests, that the German(?) linked was on the point of signing until he was told of the transfer budget next season…

If this was last summer and MG was still in charge I'd be genuinely worried about SD leaving for Palace, but we now have a new broom, and having made the signing of Collins this early in the window, surely that is a true statement of intent to SD that he will be backed by this new board, so if he was having thoughts about jumping ship I doubt CP will be that attractive a destination given their apparent financial difficulties, plus their large turnover in players which is almost certain to happen this summer.

From the BBC

Crystal Palace are to revive their interest in Swansea boss Steve Cooper after failing to recruit former Borussia Dortmund manager Lucien Favre as Roy Hodgson successor at Selhurst Park. (Sun)

The Palace link ? hmm I’ve only met the manager very briefly and I’m not rude enough to ask but I don’t find it particularly surprising or worrying that he keeps a property in London . It might be because he likes to spend free time in our capital with Mrs D or given the obvious South London link it could well be linked to his wife’s profession and/or his daughter’s sporting talent?

Palace are a basket case that only a wage chaser would go anywhere near. To me, Vieira smacks of desperation.

He hasn’t got much of a management record so far, but all you need is a famous name to get a job at some clubs.

Palace looks like a much bigger rebuild job than perhaps first anticipated. Lots of experienced first teamers out of contract. I imagine why that is why several potential decent appointments have turned it down and why they are resorting to hiring a manager with a bigger reputation than resume, who will not turn down the opportunity. A risky appointment for me.

in the Premier League - City do have CFG and their other 10 clubs to help him with though, he also has recent experiencein France and we know the financial peril that exists in that league at the moment

De Boer wrong?
De Boer only lasted 77 days, so Vieira will have too go some to beat that record.

The amount of rebuffs Palace have had from several different managers suggests to me that not all is rosy at Selhurst Park, and if they lose Zaha this window they're really staring down the barrel of a relegation dogfight.

Great news for all the other clubs who will expect to be embroiled in the battle at the foot of the PL mind you including Burnley.

There's a vast difference in being a coach and being a manager as Arteta is also finding out the hard way.
