Thanks for some great memories, John. I didn't really do testimonials but I did attend yours. You were simply class.

I think I may have told this story on here before.
Bob and Jack Charlton who were fishing around Ashington, were reliving football memories of the players who they played with. One being John.
A few weeks later Bob met John and told him, he'd been fishing with Jack and had mentioned him during their conversations. John said " yes I saw you both fishing, while I was on a walk, but I didn't want to disturb you". Typical of John, always quietly spoken and modest.
Like FCBurnley, I recall one of Johns goals v Fulham. It was played on a frozen pitch, with us attacking the Cricket Field end, John had a rare shot at goal, which Tony Macedo seemed to have it covered, as he dived for the ball, which then hit a rut and bounced over the goalie.
RIP John and thank you, for a lifetime of the memories you gave myself and many many more fans, who were privileged/lucky enough to see you play, with cool composure. A genuine STAR for Burnley.

RIP John one of my favourite players from the 50s and 60s, a cool and classy defender. Could put a foot in to be fair.

Before my time but obviously new his name and other legends from my dad. I now live close to Amble. We'll known and we'll loved here he is. In an interview with The Ambler not so long ago he said he loved every minute playing for Burnley. Once he is settled in the local Cemetary I will leave a Claret and Blue Scarf for him as a mark of respect. I'm sure his family won't mind.

I had the privilege of seeing him play, I can’t remember which games exactly but fairly sure he was in my first ever game at the Turf back in the sixties. RIP John.

Sadly, because of the arrangements with Covid, it was not possible to speak with any of the family, however, I shall see Florence sometime within the next few weeks and pass on the best wishes of many Clarets. It all came as quite a shock.
