David Hockney at the R.A.
David Hockney at the R.A.
Come the summer the R.A. thinks it is competing with Trocadero down Piccadilly and stuff like "Come and listen to 2500 years of traditional Chinese music in one minute."
To touch base with the money they've come up with something North Korea friendly and for young royals full of beans to enjoy along with lashings of lemonade.
So they've chosen David Hockney to rush up some digital sketches of trees and then print them big at vast expense.
When Easyjet lands at Gatwick they always hint and say 'Enjoy your stay in the London area.'
The in-joke for the locals in Mayfair is that if you're not on the beach and instead sweating it out in central summer London, if you choose to go in the R.A. instead of visit Kew Gardens and have a picnic, then you deserve to spend money and time looking at those lousy pictures of trees instead of the real thing.
Next up, Tracey Emin...

Hockney is one of the great contemporary artists and his latest work stands up for me. Don’t expect everyone to like it and nor would I try and convince you. Art will always divide opinion which is one of the great things about it.

Re: David Hockney at the R.A.
David has produced a lifetime body of paintings. He doesn’t make huge claims, merely gets on with it. He’s far from pretentious and certainly accessible to most people.
There are a lot of people who like to knock him, Pstotto but I think he’s rather special.

The Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam had a major exhibition in 2019, Van Gogh and David Hockney. A great reason for having a few days in Amsterdam.

Great artist. I've always liked his work and wish I could have seen the exhibition at the RA. Saw a number of his paintings some years ago at Saltaire and remember one art critic describing Hockney's work as " complex simplicity"
When someone's produces work like his, I can forgive him being Yorkshireman.

Re: David Hockney at the R.A.
Pstotto, the simple truth is Hockney’s work has always been accessible to ordinary people around the world. People who don’t have degrees in Fine Art or Psychology. Hard working people with real world concerns.
The smug Arts minority mock Hockney and even produce their own artworks deliberately designed to not be understood and written about in an elitist vocabulary that locks out the majority of the population.
Personally, I’m with Hockney and the simple joy of a beautifully painted portrait or landscape.

Grade D O-level, some of those pictures.
If Hockney would claim to compare to Van Gogh as Emin to Munch, perhaps don't invest in art just yet, LCP.
And whilst you're getting off on Hockney, 50,000 M.A. Fine Art postgraduates you've never heard of, shunned to poverty and suicide even.

I wouldn't use him again, he made a right mess on my carpet and there were runs down the architraves, skirting patchy well, some painter.

Absolutely love his “Arrival of Spring” exhibition at Salts Mill (Saltaire). So many pieces of work and all done on a free iPad app.

Hi Pstotto, I remember my Art O-level, I think the scale was 1 thru 6 (passes) and 7-9 (fails). I also got grade 1 for my Korean (North) O-level, or so I've been told.Pstotto wrote: ↑Sat Jun 12, 2021 8:18 pmGrade D O-level, some of those pictures.

It was the curator of the Van Gogh museum that made the comparison between Vincent Van Gogh and David Hockney. Maybe Hockney has also referenced Van Gogh amongst his influences and inspirations.

Re: David Hockney at the R.A.
The curator of the Van Gogh museum is just as blind as Hockney.
If you think there's any sensitivity to his work then check out his pictures of Saltaire itself.
THERE IN THE SAME COLOURS!!!!! Yorkshire or Mars???
The pictorial organization is utterly tragic.
The media conversation about Hockney is one-way.
He wouldn't dare stand in front of artists and publicly compare himself to Van Gogh.
The attention seeking is clear and bankrolled by millions, Hockney has had several shows at the R.A. in just a few years.
OK for North Korea that flowery rubbish and that's it.

Re: David Hockney at the R.A.
It's sort of OK. I don't get why he has an aversion to grey. Every time there is a grey object in a landscape it comes out in purple or mauve colour.
A lot of the stuff looks to me like overly garish 1920's railway posters. It just needs
Visit Bognor, or

I am not getting off on Hockney and am far more open minded than you clearly think I am, including my appreciation of all the younger artists. If I were to make any purchases they would probably come from young artists.Pstotto wrote: ↑Sat Jun 12, 2021 8:18 pmGrade D O-level, some of those pictures.

It is as if they have forgotten about all the new members they have enrolled in the last decade or so - the Emin/Munch looked a really good show - just sorry I could not make it
for all Hockney's use of colour - there have been much better practitioners - I would much prefer to see a huge retrospective of Emil Nolde than face the prospect of another Hockney or if it must be British what about Ivon Hitchens there is much the public (me included) do not know about so many of its artists - I still find it a little strange that it took Damien Hirst to re-ignite interest in John Hoyland.
Re: David Hockney at the R.A.
If there's going to be a mammoth show, yeah Munch... Not with Tracey Emin riding on the back of genius, though.
It's a Monty Python skit, as it stands.

In art now there's a Mobius Loop of the string theory of psychosis creationism via the political will of the elite to use a paradigm as truth simulacra where the resident truth is the phenomena of the model.
So one is expected to respect and consider AND TAKE IN, the captious progression into culture of extremist cults of religion from elsewhere, as the propaganda of their essential faith.
The cloak of the dagger is that back home, there are in-effect secular cultures of those faiths, so that gives the resident truth of the model.
The pincer movement of secular oppression from extremist cults introduced to us by the elite, is that we get the extremist front but they're nice really.
That pincer movement of the Mobious Loop of the new oppression of the secular, is a paradigm now in full operation across all visual culture.

Re: David Hockney at the R.A.
Now guess what part Tracey Emin plays in that, as introduced to us by the elite.
The Emin/Munch show has been fours years in the making.
Draw your own conclusions about heart-felt sentiment and loving it, in contrast to Edvard Munch Van Gogh or Jackson pollock.
She's a 'model' for people to identify with as their lives and mind get more and more messed up and get it on canvas girls and try and go sell yourself and riot against your man to Toyah Wlicox with any hook going.
The baby boomers all their relations stuffed all their kids in single parent families, generation X?
And the pincer movement in New Faith here kitty kitty peace and new oppression to guide you on the next tack of nation self-destruction.

Back in real life I went to the pub and started going on about Catholics and this bloke got upset and said "What have you got against Catholics" and I said "The ex."
Re: David Hockney at the R.A.
Fantastic weather, I go and stand outside Turner Contemporary and shout 'Still there?' at the onlookers on the balcony inside looking at the sea except I don't because the stench of the 'seaweed' is too much and I didn't want to anyway, it was a Billy Liar film-type paranoic fantasy.

He chooses to paint the way he does, but if you attend the Salts Mills exhibition you can see he is also a talented fine artist - some great line drawings.

Hockney's pictures of Saltaire and Salts Mill are some of the most pictorially stupid pictures I've ever seen.
Utterly crap and an insult to reality.
His pictures of Yorkshire could be labelled 'Ren and Stimpy's coach trip to Harry Ramsdens' they are so bad.

If it's media and art, keep art out of the news...
Some tribes in Africa claim freak occurrences where children have morphed from one sex to the other, it's not a cultural issue it's entirely biological.
Similarly, the biological norm is for a man to have a body that penetrates a special hole in a women for object-biological function and the political attempt to spoil football at the Allianz Arena via a claiming that the colours of the rainbow represent sexual activities contra to male-female object biological function that should be actively promoted, shows the madness of our times.
Demented, in fact.
If it were a tale from the times of Caligula in Ancient Rome when it descended to madness, it wouldn't be out of place.

It's for a Frankie Howard TV skit against Bayern Munich fans by a leftist pressure group.
