Re: Today's Games
Rice and Philips were totally pedestrian in the game and that’s doing a disservice to the pace of pedestrians, against a France or Belgium there needed against Scotland another wrong selection

Re: Today's Games
Says it all about the game. Scotland players and fans will be celebrating for days they got a draw. England fans at least are disappointed. Clearly they wanted it more but good God that was poor. We really should be, on paper at least; be beating Scotland and heavily!

Re: Today's Games
Southgate talks about picking players in form and then he plays Sterling who has not had a good season.

Re: Today's Games
I’d drop Shaw, James, Mings, Sterling, Foden and Phillips for the next game, personally.
Pickford
Walker Maguire Stones Chilwell
Sancho Henderson Rice Mount Grealish
Kane
(If Henderson and Maguire are fit, obviously).

Congratulations to Scotland for winning Euro 2020 against all the odds (you’d think they had they way they’re reacting)
They’ll probably still get beat by Croatia and finish bottom on one point.

It’s weird. Giving it the big un down in London today. Whilst Rangers will take more fans to some remote village in Bangladesh.

Re: Today's Games
Reading this comments on this thread is laughable.
It reminds me of the fans of the big time Charlie rich clubs that our team faces week in week out when the expected result doesn’t work out for them.
Quite simply Scotland gave a Burnleyesque performance and deserved everything they got (and more). Quite frankly Scotland were underestimated and discounted before the kick-off - exactly as our warriors are by the media, the pundits and by the opposition before most Prem. games.
Burnley FC survives as a top tier club in spite of the so-called superior quality of the rich boys and largely because of the arrogance that others consistently display in consistently writing us off.
How ironic therefore to see comments of the England fans on here commenting like the fans of the “big six”, suggesting that a walk-over was missed and not complimenting Scotland on a fighting Burnley-like performance.
Well done Scotland.

Re: Today's Games
You'd play Grealish on today's performance. He was absolute shite. The game was gathering momentum when Southgate took Foden off and put that big girl's blouse on. All he did was shimmy around a bit and go down. Foden was the last person you needed to take off.jedi_master wrote: ↑Fri Jun 18, 2021 10:24 pmI’d drop Shaw, James, Mings, Sterling, Foden and Phillips for the next game, personally.

Re: Today's Games
I'd have hooked Kane and Sterling at about 55 minutes.
You can't blame midfielders for lack of movement ahead of them.
Oh, and I'd have hooked Phillips after 10 mins

Re: Today's Games
The most boring day of the tournament so far.
Sweden-Slovakia was hardly a thriller although Isak impressed again.
Croatia-Czech Republic had it's moments, but it hardly set the pulses racing.
And that brings me to the most boring game of the tournament thus far, all that hype, and then both teams deliver a snoozefest of a game.
Thank heavens some of the big boys come out to play tomorrow, we might actually get some excitement and goals, which I believe is supposed to be what the game is about after all.

Hungary 1 France 0, only time Hungary have been in the French half, France have missed 3 easy chances. Great to see a crowd going crazy

Re: Today's Games
Makes the 2nd half interesting, but I still think France will turn it around.
Although if Hungary do go on to win this game it really opens the group up, and also puts huge pressure on Germany and Portugal in the later KO.
England won't find the trip to Hungary in September easy at all on this evidence.
Fantastic atmosphere and that was even prior to the goal.

Huge 45 for France, lose this and they will more than likely need to beat Portugal to avoid going outtiger76 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 19, 2021 2:56 pmMakes the 2nd half interesting, but I still think France will turn it around.

Good game this much better than that turgid affair at Wembley last night, and Hungary aren't settling for the point they're still looking to push forward when they can.

There is an awful lot of politics in that stadium - the president (some would say dictator) is a big football fan and sees it as a way to assert national status - did a bit about it on the MMT last year

Big result that draw.
Should we win on Tuesday, it could mean we play France at Wembley last 16

Re: Today's Games
Decent point for both teams really, and it makes the Germany-Portugal game a biggie, it already was, but now it could be crucial especially for the Germans, lose it and they could be facing heading out in the group stages for the 2nd tournament running.
Re: Today's Games
How is that not a penalty for France? VAR was used too forensically in PL but Euros taking it to the opposite extreme!

Re: Today's Games
That one right at the death, yes I tend to agree Hungary got away with one there, and even VAR didn't see anything wrong which I must admit surprised me, however Hungary earned that touch of fortune due to their tenacity, and they also posed a threat going forwards, England will need to be wary of them in our WC qualifying group because on what I've seen in these 2 games they'll be difficult opponents, and with home advantage and a loud crowd they'll provide even more of a challenge.

Why should teams earn good fortune because of the way they played?tiger76 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 19, 2021 4:21 pmThat one right at the death, yes I tend to agree Hungary got away with one there, and even VAR didn't see anything wrong which I must admit surprised me, however Hungary earned that touch of fortune due to their tenacity, and they also posed a threat going forwards, England will need to be wary of them in our WC qualifying group because on what I've seen in these 2 games they'll be difficult opponents, and with home advantage and a loud crowd they'll provide even more of a challenge.
Are you saying teams that work hard should be allowed to get away with more cheating?
Should rules be based on the endeavor of a team, rather than if it's a foul or not?

Re: Today's Games
No! but sometimes you get these decisions, and sometimes you don't, in this instance Hungary got lucky, but they deserved that stroke of fortune for their dogged display, equally against Portugal they were unlucky with Portugal's 1st goal and the deflection, that's the small margins in this game.
I must admit that I'm surprised with the benefit of VAR a pen wasn't given, but it wasn't so France have to accept the point and move on.

Re: Today's Games
Both players hanging on to each other, as is normal in these situations, but isn't always obvious at first glance because one is having a sly hold of his opponents shirt or shorts. Chris Kavanagh and his colleagues obviously thought that there was nothing in it which makes a pleasant change!

Good tempo to this game, and there should be goals at this rate, as there usually is in Germany-Portugal games.
Germany looking much more like it in the opening minutes, maybe we shouldn't write them off quite yet.

Reasonably solid defence with the option of the full backs bombing on…. Two holding midfielders like we have been using (GS loves it for some reason) and the tournaments most out of form striker.jedi_master wrote: ↑Fri Jun 18, 2021 10:24 pmI’d drop Shaw, James, Mings, Sterling, Foden and Phillips for the next game, personally.

(If Henderson and Maguire are fit, obviously).
So you’d start Kane? He was the worst player on the pitch, and by a country mile. I’d start the championships Lyndon dykes (if he wasn’t Scottish) before I’d start THAT Harry Kane that played last nite and in the Croatia game. He is CLEARLY either not fit, carrying an injury or absolutely NOT interested.
