Yes it’s because the defender tried to play the ball. What a stupid law though.

Re: Today's Games
Clinical finish by Lukaku, but a poor mistake by the defender. However even in the opening 20 minutes Belgium have looked vulnerable at the back, which as the tournament progresses could ultimately cost them when they face better opposition than Russia.

Re: Today's Games
sounds like the Danish Captain Simon Kjaer started the preparations for CPR before the medics got on the pitch according to some reports coming out, he got him on his back and cleared his airway because he knew what to do.

Nothing like what’s happened tonight but it’s 45 years ago this year that I was knocked unconscious playing cricket and my airways were blocked. Thankfully a team mate, a friend and a poster on this board knew what to do.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Sat Jun 12, 2021 9:33 pm100%, food for thought for all of us that don't know or in my case remember.

Knocked unconscious and struck by lightning playing the same sport. Glad both incidents had a positive outcome.

Eriksen tv coverage
Now that the signs are good for Christian can we have a sensible discussion about the coverage?
I will start by saying the coverage was provided by Danish tv and that European audiences are less sensitive than their British counterparts. I know from my times in Europe that when some countries cover RTAs it is blood, snot and body parts. I believe they think it is a deterrent to speeding.
The initial coverage I can understand, nobody knew what was going on. From the moment they gave him shock treatment and you saw his body jerk it should have gone to studio. By that stage someone in London should have said this is not for us. The worst moment for me was seeing them holding the blankets up shielding him from the crowd. I feared he had gone.
This is a very rare occurrence during sport coverage, hopefully lessons will be learned.
Opinions please guys. No need for back and forths.

Re: Eriksen tv coverage
Interesting one.
I think the BBC should have cut it earlier than they did, even though it wasn't their coverage. It did go a bit OTT e.g. close ups of his wife in bits, shocks being administered.
Having said that its easy to just turn the TV off if you didn’t like it.

Some people couldn't wait to bash the BBC for this.
They appear to be ignorant to the fact that the pictures weren't being filmed or broadcast by them.
But I agree, they could have cut to the studio sooner.

Exactly, we should be in control of what we decide to do with the remote control, it's not something you can really warn the viewers about, BTW a player will be collasping soon, I think the incident took everybody by surprise & we should be glad the lad is OK that's first & foremost.RVclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jun 12, 2021 9:54 pmInteresting one.

Re: Today's Games
I missed most of the incident. By the time I turned the tv on the camera was zoomed out. It’s in poor taste to show close ups of a person being resuscitated so the host broadcasters should be taking the criticism for that. The BBC clearly should have cut to the studio earlier but the studio panel wouldn’t have been prepared, and this situation is so rare that it obviously caught the people who were running the show off guard.
My 3 year old was at the neighbours house playing with his friend and when he came back he told me that his friends brother was watching the football and a player was dying. Clearly what was broadcast wasn’t suitable for tv, never mind at daytime.

Not bad having Eden Hazard on the bench
Re: Today's Games
This incident proves the importance of defibrillators and the knowledge to use them. In recent years they have almost become mandatory at sports clubs and you often see them outside pubs and shops. The ones located outside of hospital are designed for anyone to use. Really straight forward the machine literally tells you what to do. If someone has a cardiac arrest outside of hospital the vast majority of them are shockable rhythms, meaning with good Chest compressions and an early shock the person has a half decent chance of survival.
In hospital the vast majority of cardiac arrests are non-shockable (unless on a cardiac ward) and the prognosis is always very very poor.
I implore eveyone to have a look at the link provided. Doing basic thing well can make a massive difference and it really can happen to anyone. The resus council are pushing for CPR training in school as it’s a life saving skill.

Re: Eriksen tv coverage
Hi minnie, threads, of course, have been combined. On the original thread I posted about my personal experience of suffering a heart attack. With this in mind and the need for urgent medical assistance to everyone who suffers a cardiovascular event, I'm glad that the the events immediately following Christian Eriksen's collapse were broadcast. Amongst the many millions who would have been watching this game across Europe there will be a few who remember the urgency of the event and if they ever come across something similar it might give them the knowledge and understanding that they have the opportunity to save a life if they act speedily, even if they only thing they do is call for help. Yes, there are some things we see that can shock and disturb and, in some, it can bring back memories of their own experiences, but that is no reason to say these events shouldn't be broadcast. It's actions to save lives that we want not people rushing for the "off switch" so they don't know what is going on.minnieclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jun 12, 2021 9:50 pmNow that the signs are good for Christian can we have a sensible discussion about the coverage?

Re: Today's Games
I would urge everyone to familiarise themselves with how to do CPR.
The most important part is the chest compressions, and reaching the chest depth to ensure it is as effective as can be.
It is exhausting, and of course not particularly pleasant, but if you can do something until that defib arrives, that it might just be enough to save them.

Re: Today's Games
Impressive 45 from the Dutch, however they lack a clinical finisher, and that could well cost them later in the competition.
That's probably the most entertaining half of the tournament so far, and yet bizarrely it's still goalless.
