Re: Today's Games
I was expecting to see Guidetti in the Sweden squad but on checking he is now on loan in Bundesliga 2 at Hannover. Only 29.

IMHO. Football is in real danger of having all the entertainment coached out of it.
i was looking forward to this game but I'm struggling with it already.

Re: Today's Games
Just been checking and if England win their group they play the runner up from France, Germany or Portugal. If they are second in the group they play runners up from Spain, Sweden, Slovakia or Poland.
Will GS have the nous to throw a match?

apologies if this has been reported :
Peter Schmeichel has claimed that UEFA threatened Denmark with a 3-0 forfeit if they did not resume their opening Euro 2020 fixture after Christian Eriksen's cardiac arrest. Denmark's Group B clash against Finland in Copenhagen on Saturday was initially suspended after 41 minutes following Eriksen's on-field collapse

Anyway it doesn’t really matter because if we did finish 2nd it would just mean playing the winners of France/Portugal/Germany in the quarters….
Re: Today's Games
If that’s the case then better to beat them early then, by the QF they’ll be stronger and more difficult to beat (traditionally better teams get better)Winstonswhite wrote: ↑Mon Jun 14, 2021 8:54 pmWell he threw the last group match at the World Cup didn’t he?

Kasper Schmeichel also saying they were pressured. Would have lost some of their "recovery time" due to any rescheduling.

Team mate taken to hospital, having been given emergency medical treatment to save his life, right in front of them. Not a chance in hell they all thought - you know what, we’re well up for finishing this game!

They were told they could finish the game on Sunday at 12pm kick off, or finish it that evening.
The players went with then, although I don't think all agreed to it.

Re: Today's Games
It’s to be hoped that the tournament improves as it progresses. So far, it’s been pretty bloody boring.
France and Portugal won’t be worrying about anyone they’ve seen so far.

Re: Today's Games
Spain-Sweden the first 0-0 although I'm not quite sure how, both sides missed sitters which they should have buried, but a much better point for Sweden than Spain.

Apparently the forfeit was a 3-0 defeat. Playing on the Sunday would have seriously reduced both teams recovery time.

Christian Eriksen: Resuming Denmark-Finland match was 'least bad decision', says Martin Braithwaite - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/57468439Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Mon Jun 14, 2021 9:47 pmI'll go with Schmeical's version today, don't believe a word UEFA put out
You go with Peter, I'll go with what the player on the pitch at the time has said.
They had just 3 options and had to pick either finish the game at one of the 2 available times or forfeit the game.

It's was an unfortunate situation for everybody, but i don't see what other options UEFA had given that Finland are due to play on Wednesday, and the Danes on Thursday, so they made the best of a bad situation as far as I can see.

It sets a precedent then anytime a player suffers a serious injury and that requires a change to the laws of the game, which wouldn't happen during the tournament.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Mon Jun 14, 2021 10:26 pmI suppose they could have offered the draw?

But it's not that often that a player virtually dies on the pitch.

If he was still unconscious/life support etc then I'd say Uefa were out of order, but they also knew he was alive and well before making demands.

least bad decision doesn't make it a good decision and that's the point. Re: Today's Games
I think the three options offered by UEFA were fair enough. I don't see anything "abhorrent" about them nor a reason to expect "nothing less".
A "good" decision can never arise from such dreadful circumstances, the players did what they could and, after hearing the relatively good news about the lad's condition, decided to get on with it.

Lineker came up with a suggestion last night, probably not his own, that game should have been abandoned and called a 1-1 draw. Seems a sensible idea.

They didn't have the luxury the FA had after Muamba incident where it could be rearranged 10 days later.
They returned to the pitch 2 hours after it was halted, we don't know exactly when Uefa spoke to the teams, but I'm going to guess it wasn't right after he was taken to hospital, maybe after it was confirmed he was going to be ok, but I don't know.

85% possession, and 917 passes for Spain, and ultimately zilch to show for all that effort, you can pass the opposition to death, and bore the pants off the watching public, but if you can't put the ball in the onion bag you'll get nowhere.claretonthecoast1882 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 15, 2021 8:01 amCongratulations Spain

How the hell do we stop this feigning of injury? I've just seen an Hungarian forward go down as if he's been forearm smashed when Dias looked like he'd just brushed his face with his hand. Must Be really hard for the ref to judge. But, how do you stop it?

Absolutely, every team does it, but how do you stop it? It's the thing that really annoys me about the modern game, I can live with most things in the game but that really pi**es me off.
