Lee Bracey
Afternoon friends,
Did Burnley really bid £100,000 for Lee Bracey from Halifax in 1992 when we were struggling for a proper keeper?

Re: Lee Bracey
I know Lee well.
He’s told me himself that he was poised to sign for us but we went for Beresford instead

Re: Lee Bracey
I’ve let him know he’s the topic of conversation
Think he might be working today, so will see if he replies with further details

Re: Lee Bracey
It seems an awful lot of money for 1992 and the division we were in.
I was watching a video of one of the full games from the 4th division championship season and the commentator came out with that bit of info.

Re: Lee Bracey
Wasn't he in goal for Halifax when they ended up with 9 men? We won 2-0 i think, Deary and possibly Andy Farrell.
I think he is a copper now with GMP - my brother trains at the same gym as Lee and is quite friendly with him.

His eldest is in the team I’m coach for
Re: Lee Bracey
He lives just around the corner from me, and within a door or 2 of my mate, who ironically is also a copper.

Re: Lee Bracey
Whilst we are taking about goalkeepers in the 90’s - why was there such a glut of loan signings in the championship season when David Williams put in a wonderful performance against us for Rochdale. Could we not just have recalled him and put him in instead of Pearce?
How many did we use that year? Pearce, Williams, Walker, Kendall, Marriott? Any more for the list?

We did recall Williams but the loan signings of Marriott and Walker were top drawer for us.

Re: Lee Bracey
You’ve got them all from that season. We did start the following season with Williams in goal before Beresford arrived.djemba-djemba wrote: ↑Mon Jun 14, 2021 11:02 amWhilst we are taking about goalkeepers in the 90’s - why was there such a glut of loan signings in the championship season when David Williams put in a wonderful performance against us for Rochdale. Re: Lee Bracey
It was my first full season so i was still a bit green, but I can't really remember Marriott doing anything to deserve all the hero worship he was getting.
Walker was the best, then probably Marriott, but he wasn't as good as the Longside was making him out to be, I don't think.

Re: Lee Bracey
I think you are right about Marriott. Had some mixed performances but benefited from being in the team that won nine on the bounce. Walker was the best that season.duncandisorderly wrote: ↑Mon Jun 14, 2021 1:42 pmIt was my first full season so i was still a bit green, but I can't really remember Marriott doing anything to deserve all the hero worship he was getting.

Re: Lee Bracey
I can’t find any link but was there an article published on here recently where it referenced a guy writing to the paper about us wasting money on that young lad Walsh around that time?
Was he signed up for the 91/92 season? If so, looks like the guy who wrote the letter was right!

Marriott clearly enjoyed his time at Burnley. He was sat behind me at the infamous FA Cup match at Derby.
I wondered why some of our fans below were looking up at me singing Swing Low Sweet Marriott until I turned round and he was there.

Re: Lee Bracey
Walker was the best that season by some considerable distance. I think it was the Blackpool game at home and they put in an early cross. It was about the penalty spot and he was straight out and caught it. Immediately fills the defence with confidence. I also remember him in one game going ballistic at Measham for going on one of his runs, arriving like an express train possibly and leaving a gap at the back. He played for Scotland shortly after he returned to Hearts from his loan spell with us.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Jun 14, 2021 1:46 pmI think you are right about Marriott.
