Of the three home nations… we are closer to Hamden or Cardiff than Wembley… I follow England, Scotland and Wales… but because of a French invasion I follow England more closely… but Burnley is who I support and wish all the Britons well.

I'm intrigued by your 'it'd bring the whole nation together'. A country divided on so many fronts would suddenly forget all its ills and problems and unite because of a football match? I remember the World Cup win in 1966 and except for a few people jumping in the Trafalgar Square fountain on the Saturday night nothing much of any note happened. People went to work the following Monday and talked about it and that was about it. Football really isn't that important.
I think that sums it up. Nothing brought together.

Wouldn't have a problem if Vydra smacks one past Pickford. In fact if it gave him confidence before the start of next season I'm all for it.

I watched the 1966 WC Final, something England are very unlikely to repeat, ever.

Watching Burnley win the FA Cup would be the pinnacle for me.

Just seen this thread and had to put in my tuppence worth:
My two football dreams were to see Burnley in the PL and England to win a WC or Euros.

One down and one to go.
Would happily see Burnley relegated in return for a major England win.
We have been up, down, up, down and up again in just the last few years - relegation is not the end of the world (and besides, it's more fun getting promotion that finishing 17th).

But a WC or Euros win???? That is a once in a lifetime thing (unless you are German) and will live forever in my memory.

I was a small kid in 1966 but can name every member of that team in order including quite a few squad members.
I could not remember half of the original PL promotion team.
Any England team that wins big will become LEGENDS!!!

55 years of hurt,
never stopped me dreaming.

Burnley...without hesitation.
I fidn it odd to see people chanting ecstatically and gurning in ecstasy after England win. I really can't get excited, particularly when I usually actively dislike a good percentage of the players.

Maybe they get exited because - let me guess - they are English??
I am an Englishman watching English footballers and they will be English footballers for life. How many Burnley players are from Burnley? They are all just passing through and will soon be kissing someone else's badge.
As for disliking them - it's the same with all players whether they are playing for England or Burnley - neither you nor I know them enough to form an opinion surely?

It's coming home

Expanding on the original question slightly, but...

Premier league title
World cup
FA cup
Euros

Club for me every time. It's just more personal. International tournaments are a welcome summer filler, but I haven't got really excited about one since Euro 96.

Club all the way, but to be fair both would desert you if you was on your ars* I’ve yet to see any football clubs allow skint fans through the turnstiles gratis, loyalty isn’t always reciprocal.

Club comes first but I was two when England last won an international competition and I’m always full of hope and optimism for the Euros and the World Cup, however misplaced. I never thought I’d see Burnley in the top league again so it would like a double to see England winning an important competition.

I don't get those saying they'd happily accept relegation for an England win
As a fan/supporter of burnley, surely you want them to win every game, yet seem happy if they lost the majority of games in a season. Weird.

Some fan/supporters might just miss the championship as it’s less pretentious & more humble, it’s recognising the roots for some people, you take the soul away sometimes when you get too carried away & ahead of yourself.

It's not about Premier league or championship and which is best
It's being happy for burnley to lose many games, to see England win a cup.

Yes but the consequence of losing them games will see the championship beckon & also England winning a cup, you say it’s not about the “Premier league or championship” but for some people it will be, just because you or me feel different in our own respective ways doesn’t necessarily account for everybody else’s feelings. What you think is “weird” is completely normal for them, they might think your views are weird :D

You would need to raise that with a MOD I don’t view the content of what you post well I do I guess I’m replying to this, I don’t know why many of your posts get deleted & for what reasons, it’s none of my business somethings you are best not knowing about.

After last night's farce to nick a well known phrase from the Inbetweeners film, "England can f^^k off".
