Watched the England game today I didn't even jump up when we scored ..I used to love watching England but now have lost any interest I had

Simple question ..England to win the world Cup ( or euros)
Or burnley to win F.A Cup...my answer would be burnley all day long

Well the first might just happen, although I still have my doubts.

However given how we treat both domestic cup competitions the latter ain't gonna happen, certainly not well SD is in charge.

So on that basis England to win a major tournament has to be the answer. of course it is possible to wish for both, it doesn't have to be one or the other.

England World Cup first, FA cup for Burnley a close second and then England winning the Euros in third.

If I could do a deal for England to never qualify for a tournament again in exchange for Burnley winning the league I'd take it in a heartbeat.

Hmm! it would have to be Burnley, if for no other reason than to shut our noisy neighbours up, and stop them banging on about 1995.

The idea that Burnley could win a cup competition with Dyche in charge is even more fanciful than England winning a tournament.

To answer the question though (almost), I’ll take Burnley getting to round 5 of the cup.

I’d take Burnley finishing 17th in the Prem again over a WC win.

No interest in England whatsoever.

We were at a trade fair at The Emirates Stadium some years ago when "The Walley with the Brolley" was England Manager, Charlie George was one of the legends doing a Q&A session with the delegates and he was asked this question "Club every time" was his answer "especially now with this joker in charge, what's is name McClown isn't it?" He wasn't very impressed with the England set up when he was a player either from memory.

Yep, pretty much sums up my feelings.

If Pope was in the nets, or Tarkowski at the back, then I would have more interest.

But it’s 11 players and a manager I have no affiliation with, or real affection for.

To the OP question...Burnley.

I really want England to win on Friday night, not because of any ill feeling to our Scottish friends, but because i'd like to see these players really open up and express themselves properly. I think this is the game to do it, as on paper, England are the Man Utd, and Scotland are the Burnley. There really should only be one result. I just hope the England manager sets his team up to win and lets his players play. I'd like England to win the tournament, but after so many false dawns, i have got used to being disappointed.

England to win the tournament or Burnley to stay up? Burnley. Only Burnley... i'd take Burnley over England for anything.

I want England to win but no doubt there’s more interest for me with a Burnley player in the team. I loved watching Northern Ireland in 1982 with Billy Hamilton playing.

I’d have to say Burnley, but just imagine how good it would be if England were actually to win the World Cup. It’d bring the whole nation together.

I really do envy those who were around to witness 66.

I have my issues with Southgate, but TBF the one thing he can't be accused of today was bowing to media pressure, if he had then Grealish would have started for one, but he choose the XI he did to get a result, and like it or not it worked even if it wasn't pretty to watch.

Burnley first. There really is no conflict though, so whilst I don’t feel the same affinity to the England side I will still always support England too. There’s always a special feeling when the summer international tournaments come around and winning one would be fantastic.

As for me. Burnley every time by an absolute mile.

I used to get a proper buzz watching England on tv until 2006. From then on I didn’t have the same feeling. Perhaps from missing 2008 then that crap show in 2010.

Ironically I started travelling around then and went to both of the last lots of euros in Ukraine then in France. I enjoy it. And I want England to win. But it’s a completely different feeling. Like those who say they feel no affiliation with the players, I don’t with many of the fans.

I 100% want them to win. And would have loved to have been there today. But I’d rather Burnley had beat Lincoln in the cup over pretty much any England win.

I absolutely loved watching us from 1990 through the 2000s.

I think the main thing was round then (post Sven) the players didn’t care any more. Especially after beckham. It’s like playing for England was a hindrance.

It feels different again now though. In Southgate they have a man who has made the players proud to wear the shirt and you can tell they know what it means. Every single one of them looks like they’re desperate to play.

Pre match today prime example. Every single player belted out the anthem.

I think it’s a good time for England again and a good time to be a fan.

When England are crap it’s never because of a lack of talent it’s because of a lack of heart and that’s why many felt disillusioned.

But despite all that. I get a very different feeling when Burnley win or lose to when England do. As much as I hope they win the euros and more.

But if they ever meet each other in a competitive game, England are dead to me.

Clarets to win the 2023 FA Cup full of mainly English players.

The National manager believes that the core of Burnley's first 11 has proved itself to be a good cup winning side , to make up the bulk of the 2024 Euros side who , given their familiarity, go on to win it. Against Germany. On bloody penalties. A Pope save clinches it.

If Carlsberg did football......

Nail on head. I was around in '66, but barely old enough to remember us winning the league in '60/61. Remember the Cup final against Spurs as well (Dad went.

'66 was something really special to a 9 year old. Pele, Eusebio, Yashin, the North Koreans, Rattin and his nasty Argentinians. What a tournament!

Unfortunately, for many reasons (and Dyche is not one of them) the Cup has lost its' magic, but would love to see the lads there again.

Euro's would be 3rd - hopefully good preparation for the World Cup in two years time.

Based on the Cheerometer (the wife) Burnley.
She heard me shout 'Yes!' when England scored but she was in the garden when we played Wolves on the BBC and she says definitely Burnley. She said they could probably hear me at the end of the street.
I think running around the garden probably clinched it as well.

I couldn't wait for the PL season to end, the least enjoyable season bar the odd game in many a season for me. I enjoyed watching England today and have enjoyed the Euros (Erikson incident being the exception) so far - that said, I'd take us staying in the PL for the next 20 years long before I would any England victory, hopefully we can enjoy both !

I'm intrigued by your 'it'd bring the whole nation together'. A country divided on so many fronts would suddenly forget all its ills and problems and unite because of a football match? I remember the World Cup win in 1966 and except for a few people jumping in the Trafalgar Square fountain on the Saturday night nothing much of any note happened. People went to work the following Monday and talked about it and that was about it. Football really isn't that important.

It's not really a question.
I would love Burnley to win a cup but Dyche doesn't, and most of our fans would rather finish 17th in the prem.

But our country and certainly the pub scene could do with England winning the Euros.

Oh and I've got England in the sweepstake.
