The name of the church next door to the market in Hitchin? Is that a question anybody that doesn't live there would ever know?

I don’t like to boast, but I got 13.

Obviously benefitting from local knowledge and the Buxton answer being much more “general knowledge” than Treacle.

It is the name of our monthly market, but it’s a local myth appropriated for an event started 10 or so years ago.

There’s very little in the older local history books, but the received wisdom is that a cart carrying a barrel of treacle overturned in the umpteen exties somewhere in the town and created a minor diversion for the locals. So, whilst Macc traces its market charter back to 1261, it’s been Treacle Market for as much time than Burnley has been in the Premier League.

According to Wikipedia, Macclesfield's preferred nickname is Silk city but it's also known as Treacle Town. So it's a extremely trick question.

It’s correct that there is a market called Treacle Market.

It’s not correct to imply that Treacle Market is historic.

It is a pleasant Sunday in town when Treacle is on though - last Sunday in the month.

Indeed. And it’s never a good idea to let facts get in the way of a good story, as Leeds, Newcastle and Tottenham fans know well.
