It’s quite pathetic if you watch men and women playing other contact sports.

In this tournament the officials seem to be doing pretty well in sussing out which is a dive.

i'm not necessarily on about diving; the player might have been legitimately fouled but it's the overreaction and the play-acting i'm on about.

as for diving - i would introduce a straight red for a blatant dive. it would surely make a massive difference.

Been saying for ages Player of the Season Awards should be replaced by a second BAFTA.
They must watch replays?

Any player who appears to be injured to the extent that they scream out and roll about should receive a mandatory 10 minute medical check to ensure they’re fit to continue. Of course to mitigate actual injuries the team can choose to use a substitute to replace them with anytime during the 10 minutes medical examination.

Great point. Take rugby where there is a lot more physical contact by much heavier players, if they are injured they just stay down until they are treated.

Its funny because when players actually get hurt they don't act the same. The Welsh lad who had the clash of heads in their first match was sat up right away desperate to start playing again. That had to actually hurt. Cut his head open! At no point was there the writhing and going "aaaahhh!"

Agree. I was about to post something similar.
I’ve only watched about 10 mins of the Germany Portugal game and 5 mins of the Poland Spain match but the Spaniards and the Portuguese were pathetic at rolling around feigning a serious injury, slapping the floor in pretend agony

I'd like to see how they'd act with some of the real injuries I've had at work over the years.

Agree with all the above. The game is being ruined by “experts” saying ‘there was contact and he deserved to go down’.

The louder they scream, eventually the refs give in.

We saw it at least 2 or 3 times this season...

Been said above. If you are really injured, you don’t roll around because you could cause more injury to yourself.

Managers could put a stop to it but most choose not to and many refs ignore the screams and antics of a player apparently in the death throes.
How many clubs now employ a drama coach? A good number, it seems.

'trying to gain an advantage'. It's cheating pure and simple.

It reminds me of the story 'the boy who cried wolf'. One day a serious injury will be ignored with bad consequences.

It's all about pressurising the referee for decisions, winning illegitimate free kicks, and getting yellow and red cards for your opponents. And these people are wearing a 'Respect' badge on their sleeves.

I'm very impressed how referees manage to navigate their way through this pretty well.

Someone somewhere has to say 'enough is enough'. The most powerful people are television viewers and I've had enough.

Mind you, it would be a good way to fet certain players out of the match for a time, if you were trying to quell their threat.

That's it!

I can remember all the kicks and even a contained yelp, when they really hurt but can never, ever remember a 'natural roll' being part of the outcome to a kick. Even a shove is a minimal twist.

In the 1st batch of games the refs were hot on this, and didn't fall for the theatrics, however as the tournament has progressed they have started giving out yellows for absolutely nothing.

And the other aspect which infuriates me is when players call for their opponent to be booked and surround the ref baying for cards, this happened in a couple of games yesterday, and it needs to be clamped down on swiftly.

Time wasting is another niggle of mine, and giving out cards as soon as it starts would rapidly stop teams employing this tactic and ruining the flow of the match.

But compared to the PL by and large the refs have done well throughout this tournament, and it must be said the players don't make their life easy do they.

I've no idea why all this handshaking and "respect" of the other team comes from when on the pitch ALL they do is lie, cheat, scream etc to get one over on you. It's about time these "men" realised they're not best friends with the opposition and should treat them accordingly.

Maybe clubs should have a "toughening up" coach...after all, they have all manner of coaches for different aspects of the game.
Fran Cotton, Jason Leonard and James Haskell would certainly give some players something to scream about even though they're all retired - two of them for some time.

The constant comparison with rugby players can get a little tedious. When footballers roll around on the floor screaming they don’t do it because they are soft, they do it because they’re cheats, trying to gain an advantage over their opposition.

If you are fooling an official into giving a decision which isn’t warranted it is winning in a devious sense, the whole shebang from the word go is a contest where a winner will triumph, & a loser will lose. I don’t agree with the diving & rolling about I’ve just accepted it’s always going to happen & it will never change.

It was good to see this week both Anthony Taylor and Michael Oliver running away from some of the players falling over and reckoning to be injured, I kept my eye on them as play was moving forward and on both occasions the players suddenly had a miraculous recovery.

Invariably whoever spends the most wins the most, it’s not always 100% the case, you can pretty much handpick from about 4 sides next season who will win the title, I doubt Leicester will be happening anytime soon.

Sad thing is it filters down to the kids playing football as well.
I noticed my U11s starting to do it so told them that if they went down injured and I’ve to come onto the pitch to “treat” them they will be coming off for 10mins regardless if they were injured or not.
It soon stopped when they realised they would be missing playing time.

All stems from the big cheaters getting away with it and no one standing up to it. They need to be ridiculed for it to be honest. If the refs won't give yellows like they should then there needs to be greens or sin bins introduced.

Would be nothing more humiliating than to sent to a sin bin for play acting.

Playacting, it's embarrassing when I'm watching a match with my diehard French Rugby supporting father in-law.

Another one is "A cynical foul, a cute foul". They've even got certain descriptors for the different types of foul on the menu.
