Yes a good review, the London Clarets have some excellent writers and researchers in their midst.

Us aged Burnley followers can very much relate to Tim Quelch’s sentiments and reflections on the changes in football since the 1950s and were very fortunate to see the 59/60 championship winners. The England set-up was old school and mismanaged for many years and probably still is. Capitalism market forces took a strong hold on the game in the 1960s and since then large city clubs have monopolised and dominated. It is a miracle that small town clubs like Burnley continue to compete and play at the highest level particularly given the “near miss” of 1987, for this we must thank many but more recently Sean Dyche.
Long may it continue.

'A perfect literary accompaniment to England’s inevitable demise to a tactically-superior side in the European Championships.'

So no progress on the international front then.

A really good review as always by Phil, which I think is actually more coherent and structured than the book itself. I am a big fan of Tim's but I struggled a bit with this effort to work out where it was going at times. I still enjoyed it mind for the nostalgia alone, but I would be interested to know the thoughts of anyone else who has already read it.

Stan Mortenson & Jimmy Dickinson on there.
The book is a great read, btw.
