It’s called digging a hole up to you neck. United cannot afford to write off their previous investment… and massive loss if he leaves on a free, so they are now over a barrel.

The Superclubs unsustainable business models in a nutshell, and why they think the rest of football need to get in line to bail them out by accepting even less of the remaining pot.

This is why I’ve come to dislike part of the beautiful game.

United could sell him for £30m this summer and book a profit, a deal of that size would make him impossible to sell and United have been caught out a few times by that before - the problem is that he is beguiling when playing for France, truly an exceptional talent, just never that way for United. I suspect the £400k pw deal comes from what is being touted as his wages when on a free next summer - but as Juventus have found with Aaron Ramsey doing that is making a rod for your own back - Juventus want Pogba but cannot afford the near £70m that Utd are claimed to want (who much of that is for Raiola the agent) plus the wages. I think Utd should sell for around £40m-£45m, book the £20m or so profit and the £12m+ wage savings and make better use of van Beek.

Yes it’s a lot of money, but to put it into context The Rock was paid around $1.7m per week last year to make films I don’t watch, doesn’t mean I don’t want to watch films any more.

Some of the US sports stars get paid amounts that would make Pogba look like a peasant

they also have no freedom of registration or transfer system in place - many who sign those big contracts do not get them paid and it is possible to sign a player on a big contract never play or pay him just to stop a rival from having them in the draft - there has beeen quite the scandal about it in the last few years, as I have posted before

Think that was the story before the pandemic not anymore from what I hear. Without him they're poor.

Been into football for decades.

Its stuff like this and the infestation of gesture politics that's contributing to my being less and less enthusiastic and interested in it.

I've a friend who was a season ticket holder at a premier/ championship side.

He sacked it off and got involved in his local non league club.

Loves it and says he neither regrets it nor misses it.

There already seem to be a few clubs that just won't get involved if Raiola is a players agent. If that started to become the norm, players would probably not be so keen to sign for him. Even if just the Premier League sides said: "No. We've had enough of you. We can't trust you. We will not engage with you under any circumstances, but will only deal with the player himself or an agent unconnected with you" then he could try and sell his unpleasant wares elsewhere, his clients knowing that having a different agent might get them a better deal. Is it a certain type of player that is attracted to Raiola, or is it him that turns his clients into the worst kind of mercenaries

Pogba seems to have Man United over a barrel. I agree, that the best (and maybe only) way of getting out of the hole is to say no, transfer list him and cut their losses.

And are we assuming that this is a formal request for more money, or just pap that Raiola has fed to the sports pages to stir the pot?

Every close season Pogba has threatened to leave and this time to play out his contact. United have routinely capitulated and his salary has increased.

One greedy b@st@rd that we could all do without.

When I’ve watched him play for Utd it’s rare I think he’s a key player for them, the odd bit of outstanding football but mainly nothing that has made me think he can push them to the level they need to be at to win the PL .
Maybe too strong to say he’s holding them back but enough to think he’s not got that consistent match winning quality

I did and it was a brilliant ball, but how many times does he impact games for Man Utd in that fashion. That's what frustrates the heck out of Man Utd fans, he has the talent but his attitude is questionable at times, and that's an awful lot of wages even by Utd standards.

Apparently the new deal has been rejected.

PSG want to sign him, willing to pay £45 million, Utd want £50 million

Pogba isn't world class often enough though that's the thing.
He doesn't take a game by the scruff of the neck, he doesn't score many and many a game you wouldn't know he's on the pitch

You might have a hard on for him, but for Utd he's gash and they'd be better off without him.

You're*
I think Pope was more than capable of challenging Pickford for the starting spot for the Euros before his injury.
Pickford however impressed me in the Euros and was excellent so deserves to retain his spot.

I'm not the only person who isn't impressed with Pogba and his inconsistencies for Utd, it's time he left, they won't miss him.

Good player but dosent apply himself regulary, two good games a season and coasts on his reputation, Mourinho had no time for him when he was winning things at United tellingly.

More interested in his haircut and Instagram than football.

If someone offered me £50m for him id snap their hands off.

Footballers only play once or twice a week. I'm taking it your expecting him to have no life beyond kicking a ball?

i'm saying exactly what I'm saying, sometimes he's brilliant, sometimes he puts more effort into his instagram. If I were a Man United fan I'd be very unhappy with his consistency in performance given the outlay. I don't give a rats ass what he does
