Billy Gilmour

Post by Cirrus_Minor » Mon Jun 21, 2021 1:25 pm

Tested positive for COVID but no one else asked to isolate. The Scotland squad has been in a ‘bubble’, probably including kissing, cuddling and all sorts of extremely close physical contact.

Meanwhile my granddaughter has been told to isolate for 10 days because one of her class has been tested positive.

Can somebody please explain the difference.

The Czech and Croatian teams chose to fly in/out of Scotland for their games instead of having a camp in Scotland. They were told that the full team would have to isolate if they camped in Scotland and got a positive case.

Scotland have now got a positive case and the rules are different? Forget schoolmates etc ….. even the same group in the same competition have different rules.

"It is understood that, had he tested positive while in Scotland, local rules would have required the entire squad to isolate."

"The Scottish FA have maintained their confidence that Gilmour has not been in close contact with any of his team-mates."

Him and his team mates will be able to self isolate away from the tournament altogether soon enough once they get pumped by Croatia.

From the BBC article:

Match play is not considered close contact and England's players and support team all returned negative tests on Sunday.

People have been saying football is becoming a non-contact sport for years.

"It is understood that, had he tested positive while in Scotland, local rules would have required the entire squad to isolate."

A few eyebrows were raised but it now looks pretty astute of the Scottish FA to choose Middlesbrough as their training base given the differences in regional policy on isolation. Also worth noting the Scottish squad did not receive any special prioritisation for double vaccination.

Unlike in Rugby Union, where all of the players stand 2 metres apart for a National Anthem before all piling on top of one another at the first maul

Interesting wordin in the statement regarding Chilwell and Mount

"Isolating after interaction with Scotland player Billy Gilmour AT Friday's match"

the whole team had interactions with him AT the match, or are they saying AFTER the match...? Isolation bubble rules break perhaps...?

Wasn't there a lot of hugging after the match?

As above, during a match does not count as contact.

Key to decision not to base in Scotland.

Gilmour will be a big loss for Scotland, and after that terrific display at Wembley he probably would have started on Tuesday.

However they do have a ready made replacement in the shape of Celtic's David Turnbull who's another extremely talented youngster who also has an eye for a goal, and that's what Scotland need more than anything, their overall play has been decent in both their games, but they've just lacked the end product which is the most important aspect of the game.

Still doesn't explain how team mates sharing rooms together don't have to isolate? there's nothing you could possibly say that makes it even remotely make sense.

It’s all boll**ks everybody’s mixing all over the show, if you are tested negative it doesn’t mean 2 mins after the result you won’t touch something or become infected, if you have become infected very very recent will the tests automatically detect the presence, will it show up something that as only been in your system for a matter of seconds/minutes/hours. You can effectively be negative & a hour after even less be positive with nobody knowing.

From what was said on the radio yesterday they weren't. All players apparently had their own separate room.

Their own separate canteen, dressing room, gym and games room? I highly doubt that, there was a video of Gilmour playing table tennis with Robertson. Not to mention they just played a football game, the whole thing makes zero sense. His teammates don't need to isolate but Mount does?

Southgate was clearly annoyed about the whole thing.

It appears Gilmour, Chilwell & Mount were having a good old catch up at Wembley after the game on Friday. That explains why they have to self isolate, but the fact that Gilmour has been in a dressing room and hotel with countless Scotland players and staff makes it baffling that nobody else in their camp is impacted. As they’ll need in a “bubble”, you’d imagine they are sitting down for meals together at least.

Evidently they were caught having a threesome exchanging bodily fluids, I can understand now why they are isolating because this is much more high risk than just sharing a dressing room etc with the Scottish of players.🤷‍♂️

Just the same as before in Iceland it shows a lack of responsibility from the players and a lack of discipline from the managers.
If you had the chance to play in finals for your country the only time you'd risk something like this if it you couldn't give a damn about playing.

Better off without them.

Well it does. It fills in the gaps in the previous statement and tells us why Mount and Chilwell are isolating. Had they not had a 25 minute close contact chat with Gilmour all would be OK for them.

It tells us why but it makes zero sense, you don't consider playing football to be close contact? sharing a hotel, gym and games room? non of that is close contact? shaking the officials hands and hugging teammates isn't close contact? The whole thing is nonsense.

The question is of course where did Billy Gilmour catch it from?

If it is from somebody outside of the Scottish bubble then their bubble failed.

If it's from somebody within the Scottish bubble then their bubble still failed.

However for him to catch it, it would generally need a decent amount of contact so it's unlikely to be a hotel worker or similar. So who has Billy been closely contacting in order to pick it up :)

It would make a lot more sense to ask why the government considers it close contact. Zlatan doesn't make the rules.

The government, rightly or wrongly, has deemed "close contact" to be within 2 metres of someone, indoors, for 15 minutes. (I am not sure if it applies outdoors or not.) But footballers do not spend 15 minutes close to each other during a match (unless there is a very long series of corners!). Team meetings and gym sessions and the like can be arranged so the players sit 2 metres apart. Table tennis players are 2 metres apart. Three players having a conversation in the tunnel for 25 minutes have clearly forgotten the rules of close contact, or didn't think they mattered.

Foden has proved in the past that where covid isolation and close contact is concerned, he has no more idea than a housebrick about how to follow the rules. He should perhaps have a minder?

It's not so much of an issue for England that they miss tonight's game, however a bigger concern might be whether they'll be available for the 1st KO game, if they have to isolate for 10 days, then it could be touch and go whether they make it, and presumably they won't be able to train during this period either, certainly not with their teammates anyway.

Chilwell isn't as much of a miss as Mount as England are well stocked in the full back areas, but Mount would be a bigger miss if he can't play in the next round.

Questions do need to be asked how Gilmour contracted covid, and this might stop all this over the top hugging and hand shaking after a game, why can't a simple fist bump suffice as most other people are doing these days.

I don’t want to create a debate because it’s not within the forum rules, but I really don’t think Gilmour would have contracted it from another player, otherwise that player would also be isolating and we know Mount and Chilwell don’t have it. The source is outside of football
