Pre-season

Post by NewClaret » Tue Jun 22, 2021 9:56 pm

Anyone know when we return to training or whether we have any games scheduled?

I read yesterday that Everton are going on tour to the US. Shocked me given I assumed they’d have to quarantine on return.

Like everything else, nothing is coming out of the club at all. I understand we are going to a training camp in Europe if that's permitted and we do have a couple of games lined up against NW clubs but there will be more to add to that I would think.

Thanks Tony. It is odd that there’s been no update on it.

I had thought Alan might want to get them over to the US to start building the brand if that was possible, which presumably it is given Everton’s plans.

Covid might be an issue there.

Man Utd's pre season is looking a bit different this year

away at Derby and QPR then home to Brentford and Everton

It might work in their favour not having to travel all round the world.
Good chance they will start better than usual.

I'm guessing that there could be a small impact to retail revenue with a UK based preseason?

ICC cup which they usually take part in has been cancelled again this summer - the promoters of that, Relevent, have instead find other ways of generating income, a partnership with La Liga led to the huge $1.4 billion 8 year deal with ESPN in the US and now they are trying to expand the reach into Mexico, I would expect then to do more on that front for now. Relevent are also behind the desire to stage La Liga games in the US, which up to now have been blocked by FIFA, a stance supported by judgements in the US courts.
