Robert Lewandowski
Robert Lewandowski
How will he be compared to other great strikers in years to come?
He's certainly one of the best goal scorers I've ever seen, arguably as good as Shearer in his prime.
And to think he was close to signing for Rovers back in the day.

Good player, probably will go down as on par with someone like Torres.
Decent career won some titles but never really got best of class.

Re: Robert Lewandowski
When you are talking about great strikers. The names that instantly come to my mind are Shearer, Henry and the original Ronaldo. Lewandowski is certainly one of the best strikers of his generation but falls short of those mentioned in my opinion. I haven't seen an out and out striker as good as those three for many many years. The only player who I think has the ability to come close playing now is Haaland. It always makes me laugh when Kane gets compared to Shearer, the physique is similar and has similar attributes but Shearer didn't spend half of the game fannying about with the ball 40 yards from goal.
Re: Robert Lewandowski
World class striker and outstanding career.

Re: Robert Lewandowski
His goal scoring record is incredible. Words like good and decent don't remotely do him justice.

Re: Robert Lewandowski
One of the greats, far superior to Shearer just for starters, more international goals, more club goals, more trophies and if it wasn't for Covid he'd be a Ballon D'or winner of that there can be no doubt.
"He is one of only two players, alongside Johan Cruyff, to achieve the European treble, while being the top scorer in all three competitions."
Taken from his Wiki page incase there are any doubts about how good he is.
A phenomenal striker who deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as the greats.
If he was English we'd rave about him constantly like we do about Kane and he's superior to Kane whilst I'm at it.

Re: Robert Lewandowski
I’m sorry but to suggest Shearer is way ahead of Lewandowski is nonsense.
This guy has virtually a goal a game record for his current club over 8 years. Shearer was less than 1 in 2 for Newcastle over a similarly long period. He has a better record for his country than Shearer too.
You could argue that he plays for a better team but there is absolutely no doubt he is every bit as good as Shearer ever was (better IMO).
Also Kane has a better record than Shearer for England and a better goal ratio for Spurs than Shearer had for Newcastle. I would class them as Lewandowski, Kane and Shearer in that order.

Re: Robert Lewandowski
Robert Lewandowski and Luis Saurez are overlooked due to playing in the Ronaldo/Messi era. Luis Saurez is the greatest forward I’ve seen in the Premier League. He had a spell when his goals and assists per game were better than both Ronaldo/Messi for 18/24 months.
Robert Lewandowski is pure class. Strength, agility, powerful, outstanding finisher. The two mentioned are a level above other forwards over the last 20 years since I’ve been watching football.

Re: Robert Lewandowski
When the word goalscorers is mentioned my mind Immediately reverts to Jimmy Greaves of day gone by. Lewandowski is as close as you can get to that great man in the modern era. Almost single-handedly dragged a poor Poland into a last 16 game last night.

Re: Robert Lewandowski
Ronaldo and Messi have blown it out the water for how strikers are measured.
In 'normal times' Lewandowski, Suarez, Benzema, Rooney, Kane, Aguero, Lukaku would be rightly recognised as some of the greatest ever. However because of the bar that Ronaldo and Messi have set it completely changes the view on that.
Even the likes of Raul, Shevchenko, Henry, Shearer, Van Nistelroy etc dont get remembered as how great they were because of this.
Ironically Ronaldo and Messi I still dont see as strikers yet they have a better goalscoring record than any striker!

Re: Robert Lewandowski
Top class and unbelievable scoring record. He's unlucky he's being playing in the era of Messi and Ronaldo, probably why he isn't seen by some as ultimate world class whatever you want to dress it standard.

Hi cfc:
"Ironically Ronaldo and Messi I still dont see as strikers yet they have a better goalscoring record than any striker!"
I see it like that, above all Messi.

Re: Robert Lewandowski
Pity he was playing for a poor team in the Euros...I would have liked to see more of him. Top Player.Couple of cracking Goals against Sweden captured the imagination!
Re: Robert Lewandowski
Shearer was a very good PL striker but not in Lewandowski's league (and that's not because he played for who he did).

Lewandowski oozes class. He’s better than Kane for me. I’d go as far as to say, he’s the best European striker since Vanbasten.gandhisflipflop wrote: ↑Thu Jun 24, 2021 11:39 amWhen you are talking about great strikers. As for only Haaland (who looks fantastic) I’d include Mbappe. He’s not really shown his full potential from what I’ve seen so far at the Euros but he’s top, top quality.

Re: Robert Lewandowski
Fantastic Center Forward,he would walk into any team at this Championship, but it's sad as it seems today's top coaches don't play a out and out striker anymore....the game is going very sterile.
Re: Robert Lewandowski
Surprised you pick out van Basten - an excellent player but Lewandowski a better striker by some distance.DCWat wrote: ↑Thu Jun 24, 2021 7:13 pmLewandowski oozes class. He’s better than Kane for me. I’d go as far as to say, he’s the best European striker since Vanbasten.

Re: Robert Lewandowski
Robert Lewandowski scored on the opening day of the Bundesliga for a record seventh consecutive season as the Julian Nagelsmann era began with a draw at Borussia Monchengladbach.
Lewandowski has scored in each of his last 11 Bundesliga appearances, with 18 goals in that run. The last time he played a game for Bayern without scoring was February.
Despite RL netting Bayern could only manage a 1-1 draw after coming from behind.

I certainly wasn’t, probably the most exciting player we’ve had admittedly at a lower level, I wasn’t at the Plymouth game but was listening to it with a mate and we were running round the room like we were there when the goals went in
Was at Wembley though and that was a bit of a do
