Manbags

Post by Aclaret » Thu Jun 24, 2021 2:52 pm

Mrs Aclaret was asking me what I wanted for my birthday. I replied, perhaps some new walking boots, polo shirt, club vouchers. Wasn't expecting her to say " what about a manbag" !!
Anyone got one ? Must admit my pockets are rammed with phone, bunch of keys, loose change and crumpled up banknotes. Is their a future for men wearing manbags ( do you wear them) ?.......perhaps I'll play safe and ask her for a nice bottle of Red Wine.

Ok, I'll confess to using a man bag for a couple of years. When the strap finally broke I replaced it with a small rucksack. Useful and safe place to pile the phone, wallet, keys, camera and work notebook all in the same place. Maybe it suggests a more rugged look than a 'manbag'?

Theres a reason your wife suggested it and you didnt think of it yourself.
Depends what you mean by "man bag"

There are a few I've seen described as man bags.

My son got a sports one as all the kids were wearing them, like you mentioned for all their clutter they carry around. But after a few times wearing it thought
A. Looked ridiculous
B. He took more stuff out with him having it
C. If you lose it, get it stolen you lose everything at once in 1 hit

There are a few that look like laptop holder type ones that business men carry around, and with a suit look practical, however other than that they shouldn't be an accessory for your every day normal man.

Itd be like wearing flip flops round Burnley, its unnecessary, there's better alternatives and you look a bit of a d1ck.

Obviously that's just my opinion.

Couldn't do without it after studiously avoiding one until recently. I have medication, keys, mask, phone, wallet, change and a hankey to carry around. It's great to have nothing in my pockets!

Man bags are wrong, you have pockets or too much stuff. Less keys, few cards/ £10, phone, that's it.

Flip flops are a completely different kettle of fish- they should be the mainstay from April - September, and longer weather permitting. But then I live nearer a beach than in Burnley.

I genuinely had to google 'manbag'. I have seen them but as someone who only takes the very bare minimum anywhere (I don't even take food to work as I never eat at work). They definitely wouldn't be used by me. Unless it was to transport said bottle of wine.

Yes, them too Tony. Broke or lost a few pairs over the years, especially when at away games and had a little too much to drink.

I use my manbag every day when I go out here in the Philippines. I need it as due to the extreme heat I always wear shorts and they only have 2 small pockets. In my manbag I have my debit cards,my keys, small purse with coins,a pen,my to do list, bank notes,my phone, store cards, toilet roll (none provided in Philippines toilets),sunglasses and spectacles in their cases, 2 shopping bags and some of my medications
Yes I need my manbag :D

Key's, inhaler and mobile phone which has a card holder in the case.
I avoid using cash nowadays, unless I've had cash tips but I usually give those to my daughter for her piggy bank.

I used to have a manbag 15yrs ago, but I found it just resulted in me taking more stuff out with me than I really needed.
Kindle on my phone means I don't even need to take a physical book with me anyone.

I wear shorts everyday, so I tend to just take what I need.

Handy for summer then you can take a sunglasses case out and about with you. I also hate having loads of stuff in my pockets.

I wouldve laughed 10-15 years ago to think I'd say this but..... I have 2 (small) man-bags, one black, one brown.

Nowadays when I go out for the day I have to take specs, reading specs (+ sunspecs in summer), phone, spare hearing aid batteries, crossword & pen for the train, small binocs for cricket/racing etc etc (no false teeth yet). Too much to fit in pockets when you're trying to look vaguely smart.

I felt a bit self-conscious at first but just part of the going-out-for-the-day experience now.

I think that would just be a handbag which would be fine as it would compliment the look. Man bags just don’t seem right like trainers with suits and flip flops with anoraks when it’s raining.

Yeah they've gone from the small manbag around their chests to bumbags.
Both options looked ridiculous though, not sure which is worse.

I live in Spain & its normal, great idea when you have to carry, masks, reading specs, sun specs, wallet & car keys, only draw back is remembering not to leave it in a bar or restaurant. :D

Remember the days when we just had a few coins and a hanky in your pocket?

Every time I go out its like a military operation....mobile, tissues, sunglasses, £1 coin for supermarket trolly, cash, debit and credit cards, my shopping list (because I can no longer remember what I need), car keys, house keys....

Put them all in your jean pockets and you feel like your trousers will drop down at some point in the day. So, I am thinking a bag is the solution however, the styling of bumbags is just wrong. It's something to do with the saggy hammock shape.

Maybe there is a market for someone to invent a new type of man bag? Something 'manly', like a gun holster?

I rarely carry cash or cards these days, with the phone being more secure than carrying cards. I’d rather have bulging pockets (phone, e cigarette, keys etc.) than wear a man bag though.

Only time I’d use a bag (and it wouldn’t be one of those ridiculous cross body things) would be for at the airport when going on holiday.

As for fanny packs :D not a chance!!

I use one if I need to take sunglasses so I have somewhere for my normal glasses. Also useful to bob out in (Burnley) shorts with no pockets if the wife's not around.
