I think as every has alluded to, given the size of the fee in his final year and Brentfords cut...makes more sense.

Cash and Watkins of Villa had no PL experience in the PL, but look how well they have done in the PLtiger76 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 24, 2021 5:14 pmWow! we signed a player and it's only the 24th June, this is a strange feeling.
No he doesn't have any PL experience, but he's got almost 50 appearances for Stoke, with 40 of those at Championship level, plus of course a number of ROI youth team games under his belt, some of which he captained in interestingly, so it's not like we're signing a callow youth he knows what the game is about.
He's a big lad isn't he 6' 4" so he should provide a threat at set pieces, a very promising start to the window, and if this is the direction Pace & co are taking us in then I'm definitely on board, far rather someone in the vein of Nathan Collins than ageing pros looking for one last big payday.
Maybe this will be exciting times after all.

The deal, as all are, is undisclosed so there is no way of knowing what is and what isn't included.

Exactly! if this lad is good enough, and all the evidence suggests he is, then he'll easily adapt to the PL, and with Ben Mee to talk him through games I have no worries he'll be fine when he pulls on a Claret & Blue shirt.warksclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jun 24, 2021 5:43 pmCash and Watkins of Villa had no PL experience in the PL, but look how well they have done in the PL

Lets not forget an England goalie behind him, the likes of Bardsley and Pieters passing on their experience and our midfield hopefully doing their usual job of protecting him.

Re: ARTICLE: Collins is a Claret
Perhaps! but even if Tarks stays and sees out his contract, in the event of he or Ben being out for any reason we'll now have a reliable replacement to call upon, Dunne & Long are wholehearted and give their all when selected, but they have looked out of their depth at times in this league for all their best efforts, so it will do us no harm to have Nathan Collins on our books even if he doesn't play that much next season he'll be learning plenty from our old guard, and if a player of that quality becomes available we'd have been daft to pass the opportunity up to get him signed ASAP.

Re: ARTICLE: Collins is a Claret
Indeed! I don't want to put undue pressure on the lad, but if he's even half the signing Michael Keane turned out to be we've got a corker on our hands, and if he did depart in a couple of years we'd be looking at a hefty fee for his services.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 24, 2021 6:00 pmLets not forget an England goalie behind him, the likes of Bardsley and Pieters passing on their experience and our midfield hopefully doing their usual job of protecting him.

As you rightly point out we've got an abundance of experience, we now need to add a smattering of youth and we'll be a force in this league once again.
A few more additions in this mould and we certainly shouldn't be fearing battling the drop next season, and we can hopefully be targeting a top 10 finish, and also a cup run or two to generate some excitement, we've got a solid core that know their way around the PL, and add some creativity to our midfield we should be relishing the upcoming campaign.
Bring on the Seagulls.

Re: ARTICLE: Collins is a Claret
Really great work this, get in early and no messing about with fees.
I can understand haggling over a journeyman of 30+ but for a lad of 20 we just needed to get it done - every chance we’ll make money on him and he’ll also make a big contribution. My biggest gripe in recent years has been the lack of that mentality.
I expect the club to keep Tarky until January and then sell for about £6m which would buy another half of a Collins so is a good way to go about it.

Re: ARTICLE: Collins is a Claret
I'm not always this positive believe me, but compared to last summer there appears to be a different vibe about the club, and this includes the manager and chairman working together instead of being at daggers drawn as SD & MG were a year ago, if we're going to succeed in this league we all need to be singing from the same hymn sheet, and thankfully under the new regime this does seem to be happening, long may it continue.
Now all we need is for Sean to commit his long term future to the Clarets adventure, and another addition or two, and TM really will be a happy place come August.
If you can't be happy when we've snapped up one of the best young talents in the country, then you'll never be happy as a Burnley fan.
And it makes a pleasant change to read positive threads on this board for a change, if the squad and Sean can go into the new season with this optimistic outlook who knows what we can achieve, maybe even another European tour, we've done it once so why not again.
Dare to dream.

Re: ARTICLE: Collins is a Claret
A good start to the Summer. He comes with lots of potential and am sure he will knuckle down and learn a lot from Mee & hopefully Tarks next season. The fee is realistic and with the Gibson deal being factored in as well, it's good business for Burnley. He comes across well in the interview as well. Welcome aboard Nathan, all the best at your new club. By the way, was impressed with the chairman's comments. Hopefully everyone is genuinely pulling in the right direction now on looking for and attracting new signings to this club.

Don't really know much about him other than what's been quoted by others.
There again didn't know anything about Tarks either before we signed him and he hasn't turned out too badly.
If anyone can get the best out of a promising young defender it's SD and his coaching staff so it bodes well.
Welcome to Burnley Nathan.

Hi CP, I'm putting a different interpretation to the one you are offering.Chester Perry wrote: ↑Thu Jun 24, 2021 4:44 pmIt is Paul
MG was never one for much communication which seemed to annoy a lot of people.
as for the technical committee bit, this does not seem too different to way Riggs role was described when he arrived - that may have changed over the period but just because the new chairman puts warm words around it to address what many fans have feared on social media over the years and has given the group a title does not necessarily mean it is completely new practice. It feels similar to the way many think this summers investment at Turf Moor was a new ownership initiative when it plainly was not.
A am happy that everyone else seems happy, and join them at being pleased to have some young potential in the club, in an area of the team that is likely to see significant changes in the next season or so. We obviously need more players, I am just a little concerned as to where the upfront money is coming from if we are not going to sell any of our better players and whether this is going to be a one off splurge again this summer followed by a few fallow years.
Alan Pace is addressing both the fans and the club officers, including the most important one, as expressed by Alan Pace, the club's manager, Sean Dyche. There have been comments about the "falling out" of our previous chairman and Sean Dyche. There have also been comments in past transfer windows around who wanted to sign players that it was reported the club had bid for - and which members of the club may not have wanted those players. Alan Pace is making a statement about how things are operating now at the club and how he has set them up to operate. It's a re-set that Alan Pace has identified need to be made. It's very likely something he has learnt in discussion with Sean Dyche - and, possibly also in discussion with Mike Garlick. We also know that Mike Rigg is no longer with the club. I imagine that the new working methods are closely directed by Alan Pace on behalf of the new club's new "custodians" (I'm also comfortable to identify ALK as the club's owners). Alan Pace can't afford for the club's transfer activity to fail. ALK are even more committed to the club's success than Sean Dyche is. ALK will investment in the club to ensure the success of their investment - this is an initiative that belongs only to the club's new ownership. (I've no quarrel that whoever the club's new owners were, the new owners would plan to invest. Why invest, if plans were otherwise)?
Let's allow Alan Pace and his colleagues to show what they intend to do this transfer window. If we can get the right players, I feel the investment will be significant. Yes, there may be outgoing transfers also. James Tarkowski has stated he wants to leave and a season has gone by since he first said this. Let's let the ex-investment banker(s) manage the club's cash flow. I expect some of the incoming transfers to be funded by outgoings. This is Burnley's model, just as it was Burnley's model when Bob Lord owned the club. I'm sure future seasons and future transfer windows will be determined by the success of this transfer window and this coming season.
I'm feeling good.
Exciting times.
