Valerien Ismael is the new WBA boss
He'll be a big loss for the Tykes, but with the impact he's had during his short stint at Oakwell there was bound to be interest from bigger fish. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/57554938

Second time in a matter of months that Barnsley have lost a manager and picked up a decent amount in compensation - Ismaël himself admitted this week that he'd used Barnsley as a stepping stone.

At least WBA fans are used to long ball tacticstiger76 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 24, 2021 5:50 pmHe'll be a big loss for the Tykes, but with the impact he's had during his short stint at Oakwell there was bound to be interest from bigger fish. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/57554938

Did VI employ long ball tactics at Barnsley? in the brief glimpses I saw of them last season they tried to get it down when they could, but equally they'd go long if they could, he did well at Barnsley, however he'll be under instant pressure to get WB up near the top 2, and if they aren't in the promotion places come Xmas you do wonder how long they'll persist with him, owners aren't generally renowned for their patience especially when PL promotion is on the line.

Of the newer managers in the league, he’s the one you’d choose. Got the most of his players, used their recruitment methods well, got them very fit and creative use of subs. I’m sure a few of the Barnsley players will follow him.

Yes I totally agree, and I think he'll do well for West Brom, however if they should hit a rocky patch it'll be interesting whether they stick with him or not, I can definitely see a few Barnsley players making the trip to the West Midlands, Callum Styles amongst them perhaps,SalisburyClaret wrote: ↑Thu Jun 24, 2021 10:03 pmOf the newer managers in the league, he’s the one you’d choose. I don't know very much about Ismael, but it makes a nice change to see a new face in the FL instead of the perennial suspects being chopped and changed, sadly for Barnsley I can see them struggling again next season without him, don't forget they were in the relegation fight when he was appointed, and he amazingly managed to lift them all the way up to 5th and a play off spot, all without spending a fortune, that's the sign of a true manager when he can genuinely improve a team and not break the bank in doing it.
