Hopefully brings some experience and calm to the back line, which will be very welcome judging by the Leeds game.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Jul 01, 2021 5:22 pmInteresting one this, 34 League Two games for Scunthorpe last season

Tony Bedau played a lot of games for Torquay Utd, are they related?

Re: ARTICLE: Defender Bedeau joins Clarets
so, is this because we think:ClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Jul 01, 2021 5:22 pmInteresting one this, 34 League Two games for Scunthorpe last season
- he has a chance of developing into the first team
- he raises the standard of the U23 team so it gets promoted, giving those who we do think have a chance of making it a better standard of opposition by which to improve their development
- he is someone we might make a few quid from down the line
I recognise all 3 are possible but if we want to raise the standard of the U23's it is not beyond reason to bring people in to help that without expecting they will ever make the route to the 1st team

Just had a look at his profile and it says his place of birth was in a forest.

Very similar to Richard Nartey last season.Chester Perry wrote: ↑Thu Jul 01, 2021 8:51 pmso, is this because we think:

which is why I ask, there has been a few such signings - it has a lot of logic to it even if it is not the case

I wouldn't know if it's club policy, but it would make sense.Chester Perry wrote: ↑Thu Jul 01, 2021 9:10 pmwhich is why I ask, there has been a few such signings - it has a lot of logic to it even if it is not the case
Nartey certainly did his best to hold things together at the back.
I believe he has been retained, so possibly there is a pathway to the 1st team
Re: ARTICLE: Defender Bedeau joins Clarets
He's had a very mixed career to date.
Released by Leyton Orient when not offered a scholarship as an U16 .
Was offered a scholarship at Bury and made a handful of appearance's in the first team which led to Villa's interest who then bought him for a fee well over half a million , released at 19 and signed at Scunthorpe .

His fee from Villa is quoted at £900k on Soccerbase web site, and CT alluded to close on £1m.

Re: ARTICLE: Defender Bedeau joins Clarets
Came through the ranks at Bury. We did a lot wrong but we had a bloody good youth team that got to the FA Youth Cup semis in 2018, playing delightful football when the first team were a bunch of over privileged, cosseted, prima donna galacticos who had been thrown together with the intention of promotion to the Championship. As it was, they were the first team in England to be relegated from any division that season.
Delighted for Jacob. It’s a great move for him.

What I don't understand with this is that there were four Championship clubs who were reputed to be chasing him but Scunthorpe didn't take up an option on his contract to keep him for another year or offer him a new deal which would have guaranteed them a fee. Could this be due to sell conditions imposed by Villa?
Whatever the reason, we now have Nartey, Thomas and Bedeau in the centre of defence who all have experience in league football. It'll be interesting to see if they stay in the U23s or one or two of them go out on loan.

It's definitely a sign of progress. This is what a Premier League club should look like! I think there will be a number of additions still to come to the U23s...hopefullydibraidio wrote: ↑Fri Jul 02, 2021 8:30 amWhat I don't understand with this is that there were four Championship clubs who were reputed to be chasing him but Scunthorpe didn't take up an option on his contract to keep him for another year or offer him a new deal which would have guaranteed them a fee.
