Re: Yesterday
Negativity on this board never. Well Burnley aren't playing so we can't moan about hoofball, and CW being caught offside in the first 2 minutes of a match, also England suddenly look like a decent team, and are in with a serious chance of lifting silverware, Oh! and lastly we've actually made a good strong signing early in the window, so I guess folks have to find something else to find fault with.LoveCurryPies wrote: ↑Sun Jul 04, 2021 8:42 pmGood film for a Sunday evening. It's fairly pedestrian stuff, but it's fine for a Sunday evening.

nice idea and thought provoking in a way. I quite like the Beatles too but would be hard pushed to recall all the lyrics as this lad did.I could hum a few tunes from memory but thats about all.

Loved that..great soundtrack..great story....feelgood at its best.
Re: Yesterday
We enjoyed it.
Re: Yesterday
Bloody hell I really enjoyed that. It has that ‘magic’ feel about it which is so uncommon with contemporary films.
I’ve also got a sneaking feeling that ob-la-di, ob-la-da was the first single I ever bought

I was just reading the blurb on it Beddie,it said it was an uncredited role for Carlyle, and it was actually released in 2019,I was wondering why Lennon said he was 78 in the film.

Re: Yesterday
Did the Beatles release it as a single or was it just Marmalade, who made it a snadh hit number 1?
Re: Yesterday
Good sound and a nice Sunday evening viewing, followed by Paul McCartney talking to Idris Elba.

Re: Yesterday
I watched it the previous week on Netflix, it isn't a classic, but definitely a feel good film. A good reminder of how prolific and talented Lennon and McCartney were.
I picked out Carlyle straight away, surprised that others didn't.

Hard to criticise such light hearted fluff , always great to hear Beatles songs though and gawd only knows what they must have paid for the rights ?? Almost immediately forgettable but an undemanding perfectly pleasant popcorn movie .

Re: Yesterday
Beatles released it on the White Album in 1968 and although it was also released as a single it was never offered to the UK/USA market.
Marmalade released in late 1968 and became the first Scottish group to have a UK No1.
The lyrics between the two are slightly different, Marmalade sang 'Life goes on wo oh' whilst the original us 'Life goes on bra'.

There's a lot of nods in there to a number of things. Plus the little jokes. I really enjoyed it.

Re: Yesterday
Lily James apart, the acting was poor, the plot was frothy Curtis, the ending was mawkish and expected. However, it was great to hear the music of the greatist band the world has ever known.

Maybe people just aren’t genuinely keen on the film, do you want people pretending to like the film just to promote positivity.LoveCurryPies wrote: ↑Sun Jul 04, 2021 8:42 pmGood film for a Sunday evening. Why are so many people negative about every bloody thing?
Re: Yesterday
Saw a programme about the song 'Yesterday' on Sky Arts, part of a series called Urban Myths. Scroll down to 'Scrambled Eggs':

Some of these, including the 'Yesterday' one, were quite funny. Others tedious or just semi interesting.

I’m struggling to see all the negativity, I just thought it was an ok film, nothing more, nothing less.
Would I watch it again? Yeah I probably would if there wasn’t much on.
Re: Yesterday
I thought it was alright. An easy watch without to much thinking required.
Blinded by the lights is currently on Netflix. Another easy watch music based film
I watched future war last night (on amazon)
Absolutely daft but really enjoyed it. Another film where you can leave the grey matter elsewhere

Future war?
Do you mean The Tomorrow War with Chris Pratt?
If so, I agree on that being daft but enjoyable.

In some instances by some quarters a diversity of opinion can be frowned upon & it’s far easier to go with the mainstream & be part of the clique.Burnley1989 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 06, 2021 9:25 amI know

Re: Yesterday
I finally got round to watching this a few days ago, I'd give it a 7 maybe 8 out of 10, the plot was thin as you'd expect, and I wasn't convinced that Himesh Patel had the screen presence to carry a nearly 2 hour film, Lily James was splendid, as she usually is, and the supporting cast were very good, especially Joel fry and Kate McKinnon as the hard nosed exec, and I enjoyed when he toured Liverpool, and all the famous locations, a couple of memorable cameos from Sarah Lancashire and Spike Lee who was funny in his short few minutes of screen time.
But as you'd expect with a song about The Beatles it's the songs that steal the show, and they got most of the major tunes in, also I'm sure there's plenty of in jokes that only diehard Beatles fan will get that went over my head.
Finally no I didn't realise it was Robert Carlyle portraying John Lennon.
Harmless enough light-hearted movie if you want to wile away a couple of hours, but a typical Curtis schmaltzy ending.
I'm surprised to see Danny Boyle heavily involved in this project, he seems to be going down the iconic band route now given his next project is a movie about The Sex Pistols.
If you want to watch a gentle episodic comedy in a similar vein, I'd recommend Gregory's girl which is on the IP for another couple of days, I eventually got round to viewing this a couple of days ago, as I often wondered why it's constantly in people's top 10 list of movies, now I understand why perfectly, the characters are brilliantly portrayed, but it's their ordinariness which makes them watchable and relatable, something which a lot of Hollywood movies sadly lack.
