The reason behind John McGreal's swift departure from Swindon, I wonder.

No wonders about his departure, all down to the legal issues with the owner. That's a club in a major mess.

"“This is a decision we both have made, as we feel we are not able to carry out our duties as manager and assistant manager. Our intention from day one was to build a football team to compete in this league, but unfortunately due to the current circumstances the club is facing, we do not feel we are able to do that. As mentioned earlier this week, we have signings ready to be announced. However, the legal proceedings involving the ownership has not allowed us to do so, making our positions untenable.”

So if Reading sell that lad to Palace, will that be enough to bring them back into line for profits and sustainability?

Hull's an interesting one, did they overspend to gain promotion I wonder.

8 clubs out of 72 isn't a great look for the FL is it.

And you do have to wonder how many more will fall into difficulties before the season commences.

Is it purely the crazy wages they're splashing out, or is a lot of this covid related, and when crowds and incomes return will we see a rapid recovery.

I might be wrong but I swear I read somewhere they need to get close to 30m this window to balance the books.

Probably both, overpaying in wages is "sustainable" until something comes along an kicks the house of cards done - enter Covid stage left...

The ownership of Swindon Town transferred last week (as forced by the final judgement in the legal case) with full EFL approval - there is hope there now

I’m surprised only 8, several clubs in the championship who have serious issues including Derby.

There's many clubs and leagues worldwide who are financially crippled at the moment, this is where the PL riches should be cherry picking and financially bullying the poor into handing us their best assets. It's a shame we are now poor and in debt too.

I think this is a real comeuppance for Fleetwood after the actions of their Chairman last year, trying to force League one into a behind closed doors restart so his club could fight for promotion - the costs of that have appeared to come back and haunt him, those who did not restart furloughed their players and staff and kept costs at an absolute minimum.

Derby fans are going into meltdown, especially over Mel's comments about the academy.

In the wake of COVID with no match day revenues for over a season I'm surprised that there aren't more.

I think I'm right in saying that the EFL is far stricter than the Premier League in terms of losses and wage capping.

Ok this is weird about Derby.

I know this is just me and I haven't really just read that, but it doesn't say they've been offered contracts with no wage agreed and they have to sign it before finding out their wage ?

They should decide the wages like an episode of Deal or No Deal.

Maybe now the clubs who've run a tight ship will reap the benefits, well those who've indulged in lavish overspending will reap the whirlwind.

Even pre covid many clubs were living way beyond their means, especially in the Championship as they chased the promised land of the PL riches.

Hmm! I'm not sure if the EFL are that much stricter than the PL, FFP rules seem to be readily ignored as far as I can see.

QPR is just one club which immediately spring to my mind, but I've no doubt there's plenty more.

Bit more clarity

The contracts have been offered to the trialists, wages for new signings are capped at £4500 a week and even if they sign them, the EFL may not approve them, I think.

Derby could end up fielding a team mainly made up of their U23's and younger this weekend.

This explains why Derby are priced as 8/13 for relegation

Hell mend them, they shouldn't have played the billy big boots a few seasons ago when we were competing in the Championship with them.

I wonder what Rooney is thinking about taking the plunge into management now.

So under the current embargo, Derby can only sign 4 players, but they're trying to have that increased.

It's not just Derby that need taking to task, the people in charge of the EFL, that are allowing this to roll on and on, need taking to task. Derby should have had the book thrown at them on more than one occasion, and still come out the **** smelling of roses. How unfair on all the other clubs that have been hit with sanctions.

It does seem the EFL take into account the clubs name. Smaller clubs get punished very quickly and harshly. Clubs with a more “prestigious” name cling on and on and on. Then survive what seems irrefutable evidence.

It’s not the league though. They are trying to punish these clubs but losing the battle against the clubs with the independent panels.

I don't think people realise how much football clubs spend on legal teams that can find loopholes everywhere.

It's crazy. The league issue penalties, the independent commission sides with the clubs and the league are then forced to appeal.

Listening to the radio today and apparently Reading are unable to sack their manager because of the cost involved and it would break the rules of their embargo

They're currently getting sucked into a relegation battle, sitting one spot above the relegation spots, no league wins since November and losing tonight.

I mean it mate, been rooting for Derby for sometime as think its a great club, with good fans and also as a big Rooney fan Im really hoping he can pull it off.

Everyone loves a story of the underdog triumphing and what a beautiful story this would be. Haters are always gonna hate and are therefore best ignored

Can't have gone through if they are under a transfer embargo surely ?
I only know as much as you, but he was interviewed, saying the club is entering a new era, and we will be buying this summer. He either has the funds to bail them out or has set out a repayment plan acceptable to the FL you have to assume. Whether it is another house of cards, talking big, well, we’ll have to wait and see.
