John Terry leaves Villa

Post by ClaretTony » Mon Jul 26, 2021 11:14 am

Says he didn't want to commit when he didn't think it would be certain that he would be there all season.

He wants to spend time with his family and accept any invitations from clubs and managers across Europe to develop his aim of becoming a manager in the future.

He's now installed as favourite for the Swansea job after John Eustace turned it down.

As soon as I saw this thread title I wondered whether it had anything to do with Swansea. I could easily see him going in there. Although I do wonder why Eustace turned it down, that was an odd one.

Surprised he's been no.2 at Villa for this long. When he first took the role, I thought he would've replaced Dean Smith by now.

I thought they had appointed Eustace, he was as low as 1/20 on Friday at one point now John Terry is 1/10

Thought that he might have been up to his old tricks again.

You can't keep a good man down you know. :D

Looked done and dusted but there was obviously something he didn't like there.

He wasn't really no 2 last season - Craig Shakespeare has been there for the last year.

Can't not be impressed with how he's just quietly gotten on with his coaching career, no fuss, not expected to land a managerial job straight away.
Undoubtedly he's learnt a lot in the 3yrs at villa that should set him in good stead for the future.

Good move by him, I think.

Don’t think he’d get the top job at Villa even if Smith were to leave, and I imagine he knows that Grealish is off / Villa will struggle to better last seasons results in that case, so maybe a good time to part ways.

Well, whatever he was. I would've put money him being the next Aston Villa manager when he was appointed.

I don't think there was ever a chance of that and if Smith had gone absent he would not have taken over even temporarily once Shakespeare was in there.

Probably the same thing that made Cooper leave, some out of contract players released plus loanees from last season returned to parent clubs and sounds like they don't have a great amount to reinvest in the playing squad, could be a season of struggle for them.

If the rumours of us interested in Roberts were true, now would be a good time to go in and get him.

Reminds me a bit of Tony Adams ambitions and subsequent failure.

However if you don't try........

Terry has spent a playing and coaching career at two clubs who have been able to spend freely to fix problems at the owners largesse - he will have no such fall back at Swansea who are still working hard at balancing the books

At least he doesn't want to spend time with other peoples family for a change.

i can't ever imagining taking john terry seriously.

part of being a boss is about character and he has none. same goes for wayne rooney.

I was just gonna say that, he's done it the right way I think. As opposed to Rooney who dived into the first opportunity with zero experience and now looks deep in the sticky stuff.

I got the impression that Terry was highly respected amongst most footballers not only for his deeds on the field but off-field too (with a possible very few exceptions).
