At least the new deal protects against losing him for nothing next summer.

We wouldn't lose him for nothing next summer anyway as we'd be due a development fee surely.

Good capture for Morecambe, and a step up for Phillips, though he's already played in League 1 for Stanley if only for a brief spell.

Think that's a good move for him. Hopefully as prominent for them as he was in the early part of last season before going Stanley.

He'll be 24 next summer so we wouldn't get any development fee.

Ah! right now it makes sense why we've given him a new contract, I can't see him breaking into our 1st team ranks, but even if we could sell him in January, or indeed next summer for a modest fee it'll be better than letting him go for nothing.

As you rightly point out he's 24 soon, so really he should be looking to settle down at a specific club, I note he's had several spells on loan, and it can surely only benefit him to get a lengthy contract so he knows he'll be secure for a few years.

I can't see us getting a future transfer fee of any note for him. When we first sent him out he was a bit of an enigma in terms of his ability and level. However, the multiple loans to Morecambe and his last loan to Accrington cleared all of that up.

He strikes me as a fairly competent league one midfielder with the scope to improve a bit over the longer term. Playing in league two is beneath his ability level and challenging for a place in a Championship squad is something of a pipe dream at the moment.

Constantly giving him one year contract extensions and sending him out on loan is all a bit strange. He has become the new Aiden O'Neill. It might be better if he simply moved to Morecambe on a more permanent basis, with a sell on clause attached to him.

If he can reproduce his Morecambe form from last season at the higher level then bigger clubs than Morecambe will be interested in him.
At Morecambe he was took free kicks, corners and penalties which certainly helped his stats for assists and goals. At Accy he wasn't given any of those responsibilities and it took him time to find his feet.

Good luck Adam. He's certainly good enough to make a big contribution in League One.

I disagree. We're apparently about to get ~£1million for Benson and Phillips was a lot more impressive in League 2 than he was for Grimsby, I'd go so far to say he was the best midfielder at that level and by the end of last season had adjusted to League 1. If he puts up similar numbers (and I don't just mean goals/assists) for Morecambe this season then there's no reason why we couldn't get a similar fee for Phillips next summer. Call me an optimist but I'm also holding out some hope he could have a future with us, I know he's 23 already but his development was stalled at Norwich so I feel he's still got plenty of improvement in him.

Another goal midweek makes it 6 goals from 9 starts and 4 sub appearances in all competitions including one against Blackburn in the EFL Cup.
Those are pretty amazing goal scoring stats for a midfielder. 19 goals in total from 60 league starts and 13 sub appearances wouldn't be too shabby for a young striker. He's certainly proved that he's good enough for league one.

Pleased for him. Could anyone enlighten me how much he and the top U23s might be earning. The net cost after a loan club contributing to wages might be very little. I am just talking ball park figures as I have no idea really.
A subsequent small transfer fee with sell on clause might then still make it worthwhile for the club.

Why people feel the need to categorise players by stating a limit on what division they can play in is beyond me. Particularly a young player making his way. Who knows where he can end up. Just look at Michael Duff. He would have been struck off very early on by many on here.

I'd imagine he's probably on £3k a week ?

Adam is joint 11th in the League One goal scoring table. He's in the top five for goals per 90 minutes because he's played less which is pretty good from midfield. He's scored 5 goals from 9 shots. This is perhaps distorted by penalties and free kicks but I don't think that he's found his level, I reckon he'd be a good addition for a championship team. I'd be disappointed if we sold him for a small fee and a sell on.

People were calling for Jay to start because he scored 4 goals against Rochdale who are doing fairly poorly in the league below. Adam is doing it in the league above, scoring all different types of goals and is still a good age to learn and mature. I’d like to see him in and around the first team next season.

I'd like him recalled in January at 23 he needs to be progressing via our bench .

And what purpose would that serve for a player who has been in and out at League One level for almost a year?

Anybody any more info on why he tried to headbutt the Morecambe captain at full time yesterday?

The numbers he's been putting up are ridiculous though, for some reason I don't think he fits their manager's setup. If we are looking for a creative 10 with a goal threat I think we could do worse than giving him a chance from the bench.

That's a fair question for a Wednesday morning.

Meanwhile at Morecambe they have a centre forward who as scored 15 goals for a struggling team this season. Looks to be a lower divisions journeyman pro who has suddenly hit the jackpot.

He scored from his own half on Saturday, have a look at this one at the end of the clip.

Hopefully, that's the last of his goal until Christmas.
