For under Jon Walters. Dreadful signing IMO

I don’t think anyone would disagree that we need to add quality on the pitch. But Stephen Reid, and to a lesser extent Dale Stephens were both signed to pad out the squad. Not every player is going to improve the first 11 so these type of players are still important members of the team. Obviously we are now in a position where we need a bit more quality than just squad fillers, but that shouldn’t undermine why we signed the likes of Reid and Stephens.

“Not every player is going to improve the first 11”

I think this is part of the issue with Stephens, and other signings or a similar ilk. We’ve had so many poor recruitment windows over the last 3 or 4 years. You genuinely have to think back a good few years to remember a signing that pulled out all the stops and was seen as a statement of intent to directly improve the first 11. You could argue Brownhill, who has done OK so far, but even then a fully fit Cork and Westwood would probably be the preference based on experience and how important these 2 have been to our system.

Think it boils down to frustration when you also include the likes of Hart, Crouch, Lennon etc and fans just wanting that little bit more excitement from a signing. Not saying that’s easy for us in this market, and Nathan Collins does appear to be a great prospect for the future.

Everyone knows we need 2 or 3 more signings to give us that boost. With the season creeping up on us it’s starting to feel like the window might slip away from us again.

I think Stephens has had a poor start to his Burnley career. He arrived clearly unfit and was soon injured. Both are unfortunate and so far we seem to have been sold a pup. However, next season is the time to judge whether he remains capable. Robbie Blake looked utter tosh when he first arrived…

And what injury has he got that's keeping him out for so long?
I think he is recovering from ankle surgery.

If you look at my history, I don't very often criticise our players...... But I've seen nothing from stephens to give me any optimisim for the future..... People must be seeing something iam not to suggest otherwise
I'm not seeing it either.

I see an unfit player way past his sell by date, and he was hardly fantastic before, just an ok player playing it very simple in a poorer side than us.

There was a reason Brighton shipped him out.

We all know players can get injured, but that risk increases with age, operations more likely to repair wear and tear, also the recovery time tends to be longer.

Another waste of a fee ( small ) and wage for me, who will offer zero to the cause.

I'm just hoping the new owners will mean these types of signing are few and far between.

Dyche's worst signing by far, even Drinkwater was a better signing than Stephen's.
