Home programmes this season?

Post by Sean Dyche's Watch » Thu Jul 29, 2021 7:24 am

Had anyone heard anything about if the club are producing programmes for home games this season?

A friend of mine went into the club shop to ask and was told in a very unpleasant way that we always print a programme. She pointed out that there were only programmes for two games last season and then got a 'There were no fans here' response.

16 Premier League clubs produced programmes throughout the season. The four who didn't were Burnley, Leicester and Man City along with Southampton who actually produced them until February and then stopped.

I seriously can’t understand why anyone would think we would have printed programs last year.

I have all 19 "virtual home programmes" on my phone ... With having Clarets Plus they were available to download for free 🙂

As a collector, it was more 'hope', rather than 'expectation'.

Only three of the twenty clubs didn’t during the season and sixteen produced full sets.

The club are really proud of the programme. It’s much better than some produced by the other clubs.

I don't really have an interest but respect those that do. I think it's pretty poor the club didn't bother last season given it was tough for fans not attending games.

Made worse by the fact that they told us they would be doing them, produced one for the first match and then it took people trying to order them for the second match to get them to acknowledge they weren't doing them.

Seen a few posts on Twitter that our neighbours down the road are not producing matchday programmes anymore.

I would be disappointed, but not surprised, if more clubs followed

I’ve had great difficulty getting programmes when abroad. Possibly not looking in the right places or are they just a British thing.
A couple of them had a match newspaper but they are not the same.

Looks like the good old football programme is going to be another victim of the digital age. It's a shame really, as a youngster I was obsessed with them. Looking at the teams on the back page as we made our way to our seats in the CFS. I always looked at the opposing team first for any stand out names. Leafing through whilst waiting for kick off, pics of our last game, the managers notes, and the smell of them.

Funny, now that Daz is leaving, I can't imagine them bothering with a programme now. He took a lot of pride in them

If they justify themselves financially, considering the effort required to produce, they will remain. If they don't they should join rattles in the past.

Clubs had to produce programmes until two years ago in the Football League when they made it optional.

No such leeway in the Premier League although that changed with no crowds.

Programmes had moved on to become club magazines almost but it’s sad that clubs are not printing programmes any more. For so many it’s a catalogue of games they’ve been to.

I asked my mate in Italy to get me a program from the Ukraine game in Rome.

How can you assure him it wouldn’t have been financially stupid if people mainly get them to catalogue what games they’ve been to when the attendances were zero?

Yes I do have the figures. Zero people attended the games.

The figures I don’t have which I’m sure you do.

How many programs are sold when we have a full crowd?

How many do you think we would have sold with no crowd?

How much does it cost to produce a program?

Whether or not it was a profit or loss maker, perhaps bigger consideration should have for those that collect and have done for many years.

We’re a premier league club - would it have broken the bank to think ‘do you know what, this might cost us a few grand, but it’s be a few grand well spent if it means those that do collect can continue to do so’.

Business isn’t just about the pounds and pence, it’s also about showing that you consider your client base and keeping them on side.

Even taking money out of it. I’m sure with furlough, takeover and everything else there were bigger priorities than printing six programs. And rightly so.

Brief summary so far this pre season is they should have printed them and then lost money on programmes, match day prices too high not paying that, season tickets too expensive not paying that, food and drink too expensive not paying that but why don't the club just spend millions on players.

I appreciate that not everything in the garden is rosy at the minute, that’s clear as day. But this messageboard, which used to be a good laugh, now just seems to be used as a vehicle to bitch and whine about every aspect of the club. Shame.

17 Premier League clubs produced programmes last season
0 Premier League clubs stocked pies for behind closed doors games
