I thought that part of why we were overrun last season, was that our wide players didn’t come as narrow to make up the numbers. Certainly not as effectively as I’ve seen from us in recent seasons.

Playing two in the middle requires more support that I thought they got.
Good point, but McNeil in particular looked worn out at times last season. Carrying the weight of having to provide most of our creativity and having to tuck im to help our ageing midfielders for 90 mins week after week is some burden on a young player. He, as much as anyone, will benefit from having another wide left player in the squad

We do need at least one very good winger signing.

As for CM, an upgrade would be nice, but we get over run in that area because they are outnumbered. Can anyone point out us getting over run when it was 2 Vs 2 in there? We were all over Everton at home for the first 20 minutes until their injury forced a sub and formation change.
Absolutely nails it. We will have to wait another year to upgrade cm. We need 2 wingers now, with a right footer priority.

A point that I think is often forgotten when I read criticisms of McNeil.

Cork has only just turned 32. He's got plenty left in him. In any case I'm not sure why you are pursuing the Gallagher comparisons given he wouldn't have come here even if we wanted him.
I admire your trust and faith in Cork-and wish I could share it, but saw too many indifferent appearances from him last seasons. This will be his fifth season, and I think for the first two to three seasons he was outstanding, however the PL is unforgiving. For me its loyalty to players v survival. Having seen our starting 11 today v Tranmere it does not fill me with confidence. Pace is sadly lacking throughout the team , and I dont mean Alan

Our CM was truly awful last season with so little creativity it almost beggared belief . Indeed a quality right winger would give an extra outlet and a little more for Jay R to feed off. Westwood /Cork/Brownhill must surely be the weakest mid in the prem .

If you look at the top of this page you will see I have singled Westwood out for playing well within our system and praised him. I have no problems with him, but I dont think the other three can provide on a regular basis whats required from a PL midfield. I would ask you to see what Cork offered us when he joined, strong consistent performances-enough to get an England cap. His legs are not what they were and he gets dispossessed so often. Its a fact-no one on earth has come up with something to slow down the ageing process. It comes to us all sadly
Cork had a bad injury. Only came back later in the season. Let’s see whether this ageing process is in place after he’s had a full pre season.

Our form towards the end of the season improved and we started picking up results when Cork came back into the side from memory. Experience is worth a few years imho

As hopes of new signings start to fade CT places great faith that a full pre season for our ageing squad brings with it an Elixir of Youth.

How about we don’t judge someone who has been one of our best performers over the last four years or more, on one season riddled with a worldwide pandemic and injury. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Jack Cork is probably the cleverest footballer we have at the club.

A few do need replacing but another season can be squeezed from them & then replacements are needed, JC hasn’t replicated the high standards set previously because of age & the injury but even on present form he’s still reasonable at this level currently for another season.

Stephens? I'll file him alongside Crouch, Walters, Lennon etc. The fact that we play two central midfielders and two wide players is exactly the reason we get overrun in midfield most games, especially when the central midfielders aren't good enough.
Agree no service for Wood / Jay

I know he hasn’t played for a couple of years but how about Andrew Driver?
