I missed that. Callum was a year behind Hewitt I think, was at Burnley from 2012 to 2014 and played in that youth cup win at Man U.

He’s been there for a couple of seasons. He was down at Haslingden St Mary’s on a couple of occasions when everything stopped helping the young goalkeepers out there.

His younger brothers play there and my 16 (now 17) year old was first team keeper there last season. Should keep his place this year. There was another 16/17 keeper as reserve team keeper.

Callum was absolutely excellent with them.

I sponsored Callum when he was in the youth team. I'd been ill during the summer he arrived and had to have some tests. One was at Rawtenstall and the nurse who looked after me just happened to be his auntie, so it was the obvious choice on the sponsorship.

I know he's moved around a bit, very difficult to keep track of them at times.

Just in time to play against Padiham tomorrow.

Hewitt's career hasnt quite happened as I'm sure he would have hoped....North West Counties League at 27 .

I really rated Steven Hewitt, virtually every time I saw him in the Youth teams games in the "Man Utd" season he was a outstanding in midfield.

Could never understand why Dyche didn't rate him as box to box ball winner which he excelled at.

I suppose that he didn't fit with in with the "big and strong type" that Dyche prefers.

Im not sure I'd describe our current Midfield options as big and strong types

I know that's what I said.

Wasn't it Hewitt that got "booed" by some sections of the crowd, on his debut when his first touch of the ball was a wayward pass?

And people wonder why we don't take a risk by playing some of the "youngsters"

You would think that Dyche probably got it right when you see his subsequent career path. Very good player though for us at youth level.

No there was no boos.
There was the usual groan when a poor pass was made during a poor overall performance.

Wasn’t his debut, turned out to be his last game for us. Dyche was fuming at the way he was treated by the crowd.

It was awful. At a shareholders meeting the following week Dyche questioned whether Burnley fans wanted young players coming through. He said fans at Watford were just the opposite, always offering support to young players.

Give it a few years and people will be telling us that the fans were burning effigies of him.
It was a frustrated groan that would have been the same if Defour had played in the game and done the same thing.

I have been convinced for a long time that man to man marking has been under valued in the game over last 40 years or so.

I still maintain that is a very important skill that is not being utilised, older fans on here will remember Mick Docherty for us and other players in the game that were very effective in denying space and room for the star player on the opposite side to be as effective for example.
