Burnley's Premier League Stats

Post by ClaretTony » Mon Aug 02, 2021 4:18 pm

I was asked recently (although I can't find the post) if I could put something on site listing our goalscorers in the Premier League.

It's done and ready to go online and I'm almost there with a page showing then number of appearances for each player and a third page listing how many games have been allocated to each referee - we even brought in Peter Walton for one Premier League game. :D

Are there any more suggestions of things I could add?

I would love to have a 'Firsts, Lasts and Record Breakers' section - listing all the firsts and lasts in Burnley's history. The chronological list also includes important milestones, formation of Division Two, World War One, Premier League formation, Champions League re-shuffle, VAR introduction, Covid-19. List all the managers comings and goings, promotions, relegations, Chairman, new stands all the major parts of our history from 1882 to today.

Forgive the dates, I don't have record book in front of me... they are just an approximate

Sat 8th 1888 - First league game
Sat 8th 1888 - First goalscorer (A. Name)
Date Year - First league game at Turf Moor
Date Year - First Clean sheet
Date Year - First penalty scored
Date Year - First FA Cup tie Round One
Date Year - First FA Cup tie Round Two etc
Date Year - First booking
Date Year - First red card
Date Year - First International player
May 1914 - FA Cup Winners
Date Year - Jerry Dawson's final appearance
Date Year - Record Attendance (Huddersfield Town 57,000)

This carries on

Date Year - First game in Division Two, Three, Four
Date Year - First game on broadcast on television
Date Year - First substitute
May 1960 - League Champions
May 1987 - Orient Game
Nov 1995 - Last game game infant of Longside Terrace
Date Year - First game in front of North Stand
May 1992 Last Game in Divison Four (Wrexham H 1992)
Date Year - Transfer record broken - Paul Barnes £350,000 from Birmingham City
Date Year - First game broadcast on Sky Television
May 2000 Last game in Division Two (Scunthorpe A 2000)
Date Year - Transfer record broken - Ian Moore £1,000,000 from Stockport County

and so on right up to present day

I think that's a brilliant idea that can be built up.

But this one is just for the 'Football started in 1992' group. :D

Whilst not stats, and enjoying making work for others, I've often thought showing historic match reports written at the time would make interesting reading. For example I recall reading a report of the 1962 Cup Final by Brian Granville (he had a certain way with words). I imagine a report of our first ever league game would be a good read. It needn't be just big games but interesting ones too, such as clashes with our good friends down the road.

The attraction would be not just match reports, but them being written in the language of the day.

Don't know if this is of any interest to anyone but each season I like to keep a track of how we've done in comparison to our other PL seasons on a week by week basis, which results in the following graphs (the black line is the most recent):

1. Points total:

2. League Position:

3. Goals Scored:

4. Goals Conceded:

5. Goal Difference:
