Im sure I read on here it was our U23s
Not sure why we’d want to keep it quiet if that was the case.
The request to be unnamed must have been made when arranged otherwise PNE would have said “we are playing x in behind closed doors friendly”

"Please note the opposition requested not to be named, with this being the reason there was no live coverage and there are unfortunately no highlights available for this fixture. Following further discussions between both clubs, it was agreed that Preston North End could share details of the result and the scorers, without naming the opposition."

Ridiculous

Phil Bird let it be known on Saturday that the 23’s were playing at Preston in his commentary.

It does sound ridiculous, but COULD the reason be that PNE were playing a full strength team and we were fielding U23s, so something of a mis match in many ways, but that wouldn't stop fans on here pointing out how many of our young lads weren't good enough and never would be after a 5-0 reverse. (Maybe?)

I wouldn't want to wish anybody out of a job but would losing Phil Bird be that big of a deal to the commentary team? I'm not personally a fan of his commentary. I know he's a fan and all that and like I said I'm not wishing for him to lose his job but I'm sure we could improve our commentary.

Can’t see a problem with Phil Bird - he communicates his passion well and seems to offer praise to the opposition when it’s due. Far preferable to some of the commentators on the major channels

Not calling you out CT, but you seem to come across to me as a little despondent and disappointed with the new regime so far, while of course keeping your proffesionalism and not really going in on them. A little worrying considering how strong your links were with the club before take over, and as an outsider looking in seems a steel curtain now. Or I may have this all wrong and reading in to something that's not there.

Yep let’s see if we do a match report with the line up as Newcastle’s report didn’t include our line up.

Thing is the older end don't like changes.Like them moaning about paying by card,Jesus everybody pays by card now.But what about old Tommy who hasn't got a card to buy a Bovril at half time, the club won't give a ****.They want to target the younger fan who will have 3-4 bottles and a bene n hot.

Les- my guess would be that Tommy would probably bring his sustenance with him - A Thermos flask and maybe cheese or beef paste sandwiches in a bait tin. Maybe a small piece of cake as well as you can't buy cake on the Turf.

At Wolves a couple of seasons ago I helped a couple of kids who didn't have cards by taking their money and paying for their stuff with my card. Had to do the same at Blackpool Pleasure Beach at half-term for some kids who had no card. Cost me nowt to help them.

Could it have been Brady and we’re helping him out whilst he’s looking for a club and we’re short on players? You don’t get many PL clubs having trialists play pre-season games for the first team this close to the season so it seems odd.
