Agree, it's a fair appraisal. Didn't the Guardian used to highlight a young player who might breakthrough during the season or is that a separate feature?

Decent read, bit odd bringing that plane up twice though.

Typical Guardian, an unserious style, grudging recognition of our achievements and “they even treat themselves to a glass of wine each”! At least they think we will avoid relegation.

Like all media they post what their readers want to read. Wouldn't worry about it. I've practically given up reading articles involving us. Only decent ones are with the athletic and behind a paywall.

I had a quick scan though the BTL comments. Great to see the bitter Stockport fan nursing the most pointless grudge in football.

I think the article is probably spot on. The later comment in response to it re our gradual decline to inevitable relegation makes a very good point.
We will go the way of Stoke, Bolton, Rovers, Derby et al - we need to stave it off for as long as possible by any means. If people perceive our survival strategy as boring or as shithousery, that's up to them. We shouldn't give a damn.

Looking at the last 5 year positions, we have an ok season followed by a good one, so if the trend was to continue, this season should be a lot better than the last one

"Euros factor
Matej Vydra, the Czech Republic striker, was the only member of the squad to make it to the Euros. Nick Pope would have been England’s second-choice goalkeeper had injury not ruled him out but no others were particularly close. Vydra managed 35 minutes in three substitute appearances, including the defeat by England at Wembley, as his country reached the quarter-finals, only to lose to Denmark in Baku."

No mention of our top scorer Wood then.

A balanced view tbf though did their google search not find Woody? Though being the Guardian just couldn’t help themselves with a political dig

Why would they mention Wood in reference to the Euros?
