I would genuinely have preferred watching a tractor drive a rope around the outfield at Trent Bridge than that short spell of the women's 100. I hope they're not going to fill all rain breaks with that farce of a competition.

Sums up test cricket in England, they come out, Jimmy bowls one ball, and then they troop off again due to rain.

Yes a frustrating afternoon just when the test was starting to bubble up nicely, I understand that they can't play when it's raining, but all these constant bad light delays are irksome, and we endured exactly the same scenario last summer as well.

A supreme spell from Jimmy, he was on fire today. 2-15 from 13.4 overs, and Anderson 1 Kohli 0 in the battle of the star names.

It's surely just a matter of time before he passes Kumble and goes 3rd in the standings.

Regarding the match despite the time lost to the weather with the progress thus far there's still a fair chance of a result thankfully.

Jimmy gets Rahul 205/6 and goes past Kumble with that wicket.

Only Warne & Murali ahead for test wickets

He just has with that first wicket today.
Bit too big a gap to catch Shane though (87 short)

Fielding been shocking today. When our batting is this bad we really can't afford such amateur fielding.

Well done Jimmy, but those 3 drops, and 4 missed run-outs could be costly.

Jadeja's 56 is the difference ATM, and the lead is already 61, which is a lot considering England's fragile batting.

3 wickets for Robinson on his return as well, but this duo have been the only bright sparks for England in this test match thus far.

When England do go in again it's time for the batsman to show some resilience, and try and give Jimmy & Co something to defend 4th innings, the way this test has gone even 150 could be a big ask batting last.

But as it stands right now I fancy India to close this out, rain permitting of course, but even with the uncertain weather this game should yield a winner.

Interesting Ollie Robinson being given the new ball.

Robinson strikes, 259-9, both he & Jimmy on for a five-for.

After such poor batting and fielding we are still in the game, so we must have bowled very well.
Could have been parity if we fielded better.

Let's hope the opening pair can put some runs on.

Good bowling performance, mainly a 2 man attack though. As I said earlier 300-350 1st innings is a good score in England, keeping India below that is a good performance.

England need to lead by 230 though to give them something to be hopeful of in the last innings.

Robinson has bowled well to be fair, the attack is a bit samey at around 83mph though. If Wood, Woakes or Archer was playing instead of Curran it would make a huge difference with the extra pace.

Yep - Broad disappointing in the 1st innings, and Curran doesn't add enough with the ball, but obviously a lot better with the bat. Wood and Woakes in for the latter 2 probably when they are fit.

Would never write Broad off, I think if anything he's under appreciated, however, in the 1st innings he wasn't threatening, and we know they're going to rest and rotate bowlers in this series.

Far more football games end in draws than Test matches but thanks for your thoughts.

Better from England's openers 2nd time around, 25-0 at the close, but still 70 adrift, so need a good 1st session in the morning, if they manage to get going on time, yes it's slow scoring, but I'd rather have that than be 3 down for barely anything.

Ollie Robinson must have booked his seat on the plane to Oz after that display if he hadn't already.

Poor cricket from England though in letting India add 73 for their last 3 wickets, that could prove vital in the final analysis, and what's happened to our usual top class fielding, very sloppy with the dropped catches especially, and that's a sure fire sign of a team lacking confidence.

However despite that England are still in the game, and all it'll take is 1/2 decent partnerships, and India could face a tricky 4th innings chase, especially given the form Anderson & Robinson are in, the worry is Broad and Sam Curran got carted all round the park, and didn't look like taking a wicket.

Intriguingly posed though after 3 days of hard fought cricket, and England often throws up these low scoring thrillers, and despite what some might think I can't recall many drawn tests in English conditions recently, certainly not when the weather has stayed fair.

Jimmy now in bronze medal position in the list of all time wicket takers, but with the best will in the world he'll struggle to catch the silver and gold holders.

However I can't see who will challenge his status as the top wicket taking seamer, particularly the way the modern game is heading with so much white ball cricket, and surely it's only a matter of time before he becomes Sir Jimmy Anderson. :)

I've just been looking at the list. It doesn't seem that long ago that I said he'd gone past Courtney Walsh (Broad has passed him now). I never thought he'd pass Glenn McGrath and it looked impossible for him to get close to Anil Kumble. Now in third place, I can't for the life of me seeing him get close to Shane Warne. 621 wickets now, what an incredible achievement.

To still be fit enough to be playing at all let alone test cricket just shows what a tremendous player he is. There's many calls in the media for some members of the GB Olympic team to be given a knighthood/damehood but what Jimmy has achieved is like winning successive gold medals.
It's definitely time for "Arise Sir James!"

Must admit I thought Jimmy's test career may have been over after missing the 2019 Ashes. To come back from injury at that stage of his career and be bowling as well, and as quickly as any time in his career is remarkable.

46-2. Burns and Crawley gone.

Heard an interesting stat on the commentary yesterday; Sibley averages about 43 in second innings, compared to 20-odd in the first dig. If he could average 40-odd in both he'd have a decent career

Root in yet again with less than 50 on the board. Time to give Crawley a long rest!?

Hameed appears to be the in line, effectively still three openers who bat overs but don't seem to cash in. Mind you three openers worked on the 70/1 Ashes tour so you never know. Twice in fifty years is a good average. 😁

Stand to be corrected but I think I read somewhere recently that, before this Test Match, Crawley had a 12 month 1st class average of 10. He can't have been picked on form if that is the case.

He’ll be given a knighthood shortly after his playing career ends, of that I have no doubt. That is the way it should be as well - after a sportsperson has called time on their career.

It’ll be hugely deserved too.

Much improved batting performance from England, Root passing 50 again, now can he really make it count.

Sibley just out for a battling 28. 148-3 Root/Bairstow at the crease, but the lead is still only 53, so England need at least a couple of decent partnerships yet, if we can set India around 200 that could be testing in these tricky conditions for batting.

Bairstow was looking good, until he gave his wicket away to a pull shot at deep square leg. 10 yards in off the boundary.

It was a typical one day influenced shot in it wasn't played up or down. Just care free despite a man out.

Bairstow played well in both innings, but he got in twice, and then got himself out twice.

Lead nearing 100 though, add another 100, and England are well in the game.

Lawrence yet another England batsman to get a start, he managed 25, but again not going on.

222-5, Root in the 90's, and Jos just come in, lead of 127, if these two can stay together for an hour or so that should rapidly grow, as they'll score quickly.

235/5 at tea, Root 96 not out, Buttler 15 not out, lead of 140, 10 overs until the new ball, so England might want to make hay in the next 10 overs, runs on the board are gold dust in this situation.

I like Buttler and think he deserves his place, but in his quest to prove to the nation he can play proper cricket he's put all his aggression away.

Don't tame the tiger, allow at least one batsman in the team to be aggressive.

Time for Buttler to go and Bairstowe to keep wicket and Hameed come in
Buttler good in one day but poor in 5 day tests
