New sponsor for the CFS, and the official site hints at an incoming sponsor for the Academy

Makes sense really. A Category One PL Academy and Training Ground is a far more primo sponsorship opportunity than a training ground, however shiny.

Saw a rumour yesterday that there was a sponsor taking over the name of the Jimmy Mac stand as well..... not sure how true that is, rather than usual local chinese whispers.

An Irish sponsor would be nice, but may not go down too well with some on here ;)

I hinted at Barnfield a while ago. I knew they were taking the cricket field stand but wasn’t aware that was instead of the training ground.

James Hargreaves apparently gone, Howard Rigg I believe continuing with the Bob Lord. Not sure who the Jimmy Mac sponsors were but I was told that’s changing too.

“ The historic stand – the oldest part of the ground built in 1969 as one of the first stands in English football to include changing rooms – will be renamed the Barnfield Construction Stand in a five-year deal.”

One of the first stands to include changing rooms? Where do they think they were before then?

I also thought the changing rooms quote was particularly bizarre...no mention of underseat heating ?

It was one of the first stands to include heating... it was used only once though I believe.

Probably agreed to sponsor it in the hope of getting the contract to pull it down.

Beyond bizarre and so factually incorrect. Where do they think clubs had changing rooms before 1969?

It very definitely wasn’t used just once. It was used consistently until the cost of oil went up. There was no chance of them using it again once the directors had moved out of there.

Strange for a construction company to sponsor a stand which is so out of date. Not a piece of construction you’d expect them to want to be associated with.

Unless as suggested above it’s a strategic move on their behalf.

Wouldn't be surprised if there is no money changing hands. Barnfield will knock the sponsorship cost off their price to eventually demolish and rebuild it (hopefully).

I think they might mean purely a stand not a stand with the paddock underneath. I don't remember an all seater stand behind a goal before ours, however, as ever I'm open to correction. 😉

No reference to ‘behind a goal’ though.

I was meaning teams usually got changed in an area which had a terrace/paddock or a stand and a paddock/terrace. I was wondering if we were the first to have an all seater stand behind a goal ? 🤔

The time they take to build anything, they’d better start now if we want it ready for 2030!!

That I don’t know. It wasn’t commonplace back then.

Yes, very unusual indeed. Looking back the board had some vision building two stands with no standing facility beneath. A massive change away from how the ground looked circa 1965/6 season.
