I knew he was here but the only public match was the one at Lancaster which I wasn’t able to get to.

I hope the level of U23 players we're bringing in this summer is much better than recent years. It has been pretty average. When will we actually start paying for young U23 players? (Although did we pay for Mancini?)ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Aug 04, 2021 4:13 pmI knew he was here but the only public match was the one at Lancaster which I wasn’t able to get to.

Surprised when I opened this that it wasn't the first team signing James Vaughan.

Not initially. We had a different trialist at right back up in Scotland.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Wed Aug 04, 2021 4:25 pmSo is this the trialist who has been playing right back?

Re: ARTICLE: Vaughan signs in
Virtually all of those brought in a year ago have gone. Only Mancini remains I think.burnley007 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 04, 2021 4:25 pmI hope the level of U23 players we're bringing in this summer is much better than recent years. It has been pretty average. There’s no doubt that the level is improving though in the last few years as we have hit tougher game programmes.

Haven’t we just sold two U23 lads for a million each?

I thought it was going to be Michael Vaughan, now that would triggered a few on here.PadihamThickNeck wrote: ↑Wed Aug 04, 2021 4:25 pmSurprised when I opened this that it wasn't the first team signing James Vaughan.
It's great that we're adding to our development ranks, but our window will be judged on 1st team recruitment.

Re: ARTICLE: Vaughan signs in
Article just corrected. I’d referred to him as Ethan but the correct spelling is Ethen.
Re: ARTICLE: Vaughan signs in
I think the expectation is that the vast majority of these won't be good enough for the first team (assuming we're in the Premier League). They'll get loaned out for small sums and then hopefully a handful of them will be sold for decent fees and the odd one or two will make it to the first team. If you start paying fees for them then that makes the model difficult to get returns on.burnley007 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 04, 2021 4:25 pmI hope the level of U23 players we're bringing in this summer is much better than recent years. Those that we pay for will probably be straight into the first team, like Collins.

you are right in that the majority won't make the first team while we are a PL club..aggi wrote: ↑Wed Aug 04, 2021 6:02 pmI think the expectation is that the vast majority of these won't be good enough for the first team (assuming we're in the Premier League). One new player making the squad on merit per season would be excellent
