I really thought Ings would go to Spurs.

Watkins, Bailey, Ings and Wesley. Not a bad set of forwards at Villa (on paper).

He ain't gonna settle for being 2nd choice, so he's either playing alongside Watkins or Watkins is off.

Most likely Watkins plays off the left or right which he used to. Buendia in behind and Leon Bailey on the other wing.

Because we're entitled to a slice of their profit and that is part of it.
Yeah, we got that slice when they sold him to Saints. Saints have sold him this time

He's only missed 9 games in the last two seasons.
And missed 23 in the last 3 years. There’s no doubt he’ll pull his hamstring at least once next season. He’s prone to muscle pulls.

But any additional money Liverpool receive is additional profit that we get a piece of.

Looks like it's not as much as suggested, Liverpool are getting 20% of anything over £20m, which was the fee Southampton paid, according to James Pearce.

Yeah I've seen that mentioned on twitter since my comment.

Some suggestion that Villa may go for Tammy Abraham.
It would be a great move for him given that Tuchel doesn't rate him.

I've seen on twitter that Chelsea are really trying to get Lukaku back, so Inter would then sign a lad from Atalanta and in turn Atalanta want Abraham.

I like Danny Ings, but this is hardly the Man City move that was rumoured to be happening.

Not really a step up from Saints, especially when Villa look like losing Grealish.
I bet its a step up of cash though, usually the deciding factor.

No chance of us sneaking in for him first then? :D

As I’ve said before I wish him well but I remain doubtful that he will stay free of long term injuries.

Lukaku and Kane are less than 12 months younger than him and both rumoured to be in the £100 million + bracket. He scores as many goals as either of them.

This is the best comment on there! Ings will score 20 plus in this Villa side.

I was hoping to see Ings at Manchester City, but I think Villa is a great move for him.

Surprised to see so many describing the signing as a very good bit of business.

No sell on value and he is 30 next year, the age when it means your legs have gone.

I find it incredible to think that anyone could think he'd go to Man City.

Totally agree with Tony, he's a good player but he's not a player pep would consider I don't think. Ings is just not quite that level, he's lost Ageuro and is looking for a world class replacement. Kane, yes, Haaland, yes/potentially, Messi, yes, Danny Ings, no.

Yet they still persist with Jesus who's a worse striker than Ings in the PL.

I don't think that's true. Ings has a slightly better record, but jesus is 5 years younger. Jesus also has a 1 in 2 record in the champions league. In the prem Jesus has 50 goals in 131 appearances, and Ings has 55 in 140. And before you say it, I know man city are a better side, but there's zero guarantee ings scores more goals in a man city shirt than he did in a Southampton one. All in all, I'm not sure there's much to back up the idea Jesus is worse than ings. And if anything pep is looking for a better striker than Jesus. A 29 year old ings with no champions league pedigree isn't that player

You could argue there is no way that Jesus scores more goals for Southampton that he does for City, in fact you can guarantee he scores quite a lot less.

You can't guarantee that at all. If it is just about goals though, Ings scored 12 in 29 games last season, Wood scored 12 in 33.

I rate Ings highly, I think he's done well to get a move from Southampton to Villa. But I'd have been absolutely stunned had City gone near him, I'm sure that was all the work of the player's agent.

No part of me is saying I expected him to sign for City, I actually thought he would have been a choice for Spurs.

To use your Chris Wood analogy, he would score more for City than he does for us playing the same number of games.

Yep, sell-ons are virtually always based on profit.

Has there been any indication of what the fee might be? I know we get 20% of the 20% Liverpool get.

So we get between £200,000 and £400,000.

We got £6.5 million initially plus add ons that we never got any of due to him not playing much for Liverpool and it being based on appearances.

If it was £20 million to Southampton then we'd have got a further £2.7 million (20% of £13.5 million).

Seems it’s 25 + 5 add ons. Liverpool get 20% of the profit (£5m) so they’d get £1m. So we won’t be getting much, £200k there or thereabouts.

With potentially a further £200,000 with the add ons.
