Championship Talent watch
Despite us having new owners and hopefully, in time, a new outlook on transfer dealings, I still strongly believe that the best model to follow is tapping into the talent from the Championship, whilst also keeping a closer eye on the European market… But in doing so, just stretch the purse strings that little bit more to enable us to get some of the better talent through the door.
Those people who know me or take the time to read my inane ramblings, will tell you that I wanted us to sign Jarrod Bowen, Charlie Taylor and Adam Armstrong, long before they moved to the top-flight. I was thrilled when we signed Charlie!
So this got me thinking… EXCLUDING WEST BROM, SHEFFIELD UNITED, FULHAM and BOURNEMOUTH (the sides relegated in the last two seasons [the other two having been re-promoted]), which players in the Championship would you like, within sensible financial reason, Burnley to take a look at over the next three transfer windows?
Please name the player, their club and their preferred playing position.
Please also keep to the Championship only.
My opening suggestions to start with:
Ovie Ejaria (Reading, attacking midfielder)
Keane Lewis-Potter (Hull City, centre forward)
Conor Roberts (Swansea City, full back)
Over to you!

Agree on the lad from Hull.
Not sure Ejaria is our type.
Fabio Carvalho at Fulham looks very special but I realise can’t be included.

Isaiah Jones - Middlesbrough winger, really impressed on the few occasions I've seen him.
Will Vaulks - Cardiff midfielder, appears to me a Dyche type player, good striker of a ball with a long throw for all the football purists who love to label our football as hoofball.

Re: Championship Talent watch
Keane Lewis-Potter would be top of my list too before his price rockets, especially given our need for a winger.
Two others worth a look...
Gustavo Hamer (Coventry, centre mid).
He's basically Ashley Westwood in style of play but he also likes to carry the ball. Would be the long term replacement to ultimately partner Brownhill.
Elijah Adebayo (Luton, striker)
Big, quick, powerful but also quite tricky given his height. Could learn from Wood and ultimately be his replacement long term.

Re: Championship Talent watch
I was impressed with Callum O’Hare for Coventry when they were on the tv last week.
Re: Championship Talent watch
I’m going against the premise of the thread a little, but what I’d really like to see is a greater ability to spot some of these sorts of players before they even reach the championship.
I wonder if that’s our ultimate aim with the recent recruits at under 23 level. There have been plenty who have been on people’s radar well before they made a name for themselves in the championship, and their value soared.
The championship is already proving to be a very expensive shop, for the likes of Burnley.

Re: Championship Talent watch
Matt Grimes of Swansea should be on our radar. Still only 26 and already the Captain of Swansea for a couple of years, so he's clearly got good leadership skills in his locker.
A true box-to-box midfielder, Grimes is the engine of a Swansea side gunning for a promotion place this season. Grimes is not a goal threat (just one goal in 120 career FL Championship matches), but he excels in all other facets of midfield play. Defensively, the Welshman was among the league leaders last season in tackles and interceptions, while also ranking in the top 10 in passes completed (6th) and accurate free kicks (2nd).
He doesn't score many,. but his set-piece ability could be more than useful for us, and most importantly he's out of contract next year, so he shouldn't break the bank, Fulham are being strongly linked to him however, so if we are at all interested we'd need to get our skates on.

Re: Championship Talent watch
Tyrese Campbell - striker (looks a really good player and only 23) from Stoke
Jason Knight - CM - 20 years old - Derby
Massengo - CM - 20 years old - Bristol
Ilias chair - Attacking midfielder - 23 years old - QPR
Meite - RM and Striker - 25 years old - Reading
Johnson - RM - 20 years old - Forrest
I reckon all of the above could come in an add something to the squad now

He's flattered to deceive for many a year now. Brilliant on his day but a model of inconsistency.
Scored a cracker against us for Huddersfield. That was back in 2013/14 now.

For the life of me I can’t understand why this wasn’t just a loan. I thought in flashes Benson looked good and he’s still so young

Jon Swift midfield Reading ex Chelsea youth player
Eye for a goal, good box to box cm
Decent with free kicks and overall distribution
Imo an ideal signing

Re: Championship Talent watch
Half a dozen Championship players who are OOC in 2022, we could do worse than snap up a couple of these.
Tom Lawrence (Derby)
David Brooks (Bournemouth)
John Swift (Reading)
Jed Wallace (Millwall)
Ben Brereton-Diaz (Rovers)
Sam Johnstone (West Brom)

Re: Championship Talent watch
I took the liberty of emailing the club about Derby's Sibley having dealt with the Derby and England setups as his Head of Year at school. The bloke in charge of Derby's academy reckoned Sibley was the best prospect he'd ever seen. Skilful, strong andtenacious.
To BFC's credit, a member of the Recruitment staff emailed me straight back saying the club had been tracking the lad for three years and agreed with the potential assessment. That doesn't give an indication of how keen we are but I'm convinced - and, yes, I'm biased - Dyche and his team would mould him into a top young footballer. The sooner the better.
Derby will no doubt avoid relegation this season, subject to further deductions, but the lad's stagnating in a very mediocre side.

Keane Lewis-Potter influential in today’s draw for Hull. Ejaria appears to have gone awol but I’m certain there’s a lot to come from him.

I would like to add Ryan Giles and Sorba Thomas to the list. Both look to be fantastic creative sources.
Gibbs white is a CM that plays for Sheffield (I’m not sure if he is on loan though). He looks like he would be a good fit

Sorba Thomas is a good shout, 8 assists and a goal to his name, 22 and also a Welsh international, perhaps the Roberts connection might help attract him, mind you he's contracted to Huddersfield until 2024, so I can't imagine he'd come cheap.

Re: Championship Talent watch
A centre mid from the Champ who i’d like us to go for in the summer, if / when relegated, is Matt Grimes from Swansea.
Currently averages over 100 passes per game, the highest in the league, with a completion rate of 92%. Also he is the Swansea captain so has leadership ability. Could see us as a genuine chance to make the Prem as Swansea have dropped off significantly. Though he did sign a new deal at Swansea in November, maybe Roberts can help to convince him.

Bump!
Probably more relevant than ever.
I’d still be very keen on us signing Keane Lewis Potter but twelve months on, I’m guessing that this ship has definitely sailed.
